The MRT Arctic Line, or simply the Arctic Line, is one of the 22 lines of the New World MRT System and one of the 11 initial New World MRT lines built in conjunction with the Gamma server update.

History

The Arctic Line was one of the 11 initial lines built in New World. The initial section went from Central City Southwest Terminal to A32 in Snowtopic.

The Arctic Line was first mentioned in the New World MRT plans in August 2014. It would have gone to the northwestern corner, with transfers to Western, Northern and Taiga Lines. The quadruple-line section between NW26 and T50, and NW25 and T49 has provisions for Western and Arctic Lines with the intention that these lines would be eventually built up to the northwestern corner.

In June 2015, /title messages were tested in this line between AX and A0 in both directions, alongside the MRT Expo Line and MRT Circle Line, with a plan to install /title announcements across the entire MRT system.

In Frumple's Epsilon MRT plans at the May 2017 GSM, the Arctic Line would be extended north, turning west to meet with MRT Taiga Line and terminate at the mountain biome in the northwest.

In June 2018 GSM, the unnamed stations in the Arctic Line were given names as part of Frumple's Arctic Line announcements project. As of April 2023, the Arctic Line is the only line you can find named stations in towns that are below Mayor rank.

In the Zeta MRT plans by Frumple at April 2020, it followed the same routing as set in Epsilon MRT plans, except it is extended to meet the two arctic biomes introduced in the Zeta expansion, terminating in the far northwest in the arctic biome.

In August 2020 ISM, the first extension of Arctic Line to Kaloro City was approved, being built by sesese9. It opened at November 2020 GSM, and Arctic Line became the last line other than MRT Circle Line to leave Gamma territory.

In August 2021 GSM, Missa_Solemnis was approved to extend Arctic Line to meet with MRT Western Line, terminating at WN45 in Bristol. This fills in a gap left when the Arctic Line and Western North extensions opened in November 2020 GSM and January 2021 ISM, respectively, and Bristol didn't exist until February 2021. The extension opened in September 2021 GSM.

At December 19, 2022, jay_planner proposed to extend Arctic Line to northwest Zeta, sponsored by SimonScholar, but it was rejected in January 1, 2023 due to station positioning issues and Jay was away due to vacation and was unavailable to create a map showing the new station positions. It was re-proposed in January 19, 2023 with a new map showing updated station positions and was approved in January 21, 2023. The line was declared complete in February 5, 2023 and opened in February 26, 2023 when the allocations for this extension and MRT Union Line Phase 5 was approved.

The Arctic Line commences at Central City and terminates at A70 in northwestern Zeta via Whitechapel and Frostbite. The current travel duration for the line's entire length is approximately 110 minutes.

Original section

The Arctic Line starts at Central City Southwest Terminal. It goes underground across west Central City until Central City Northwest Terminal where Taiga and Zephyr Lines join until it emerges into a trench and enters Spruce Neck, at this point when Taiga Line turns to the west.

The Arctic Line then travels across Spruce Neck and Ashmore, before it turns to the west, splitting from Zephyr Line. From Ashmore, it travels across plains and forest areas, passing through Sanford, Cornus, Serena and Radiance Square.

After crossing Seneca Canal and entering Whitechapel, the Arctic Line goes underground before entering A11 in Whitechapel and re-emerging into the ground as it crosses into West Calbar. The section was originally above ground, as seen in Frumple's Gamma timelapses, before Whitechapel developed to a point that it was moved underground. A section of the original alignment is preserved as a park in northern Whitechapel. After passing West Calbar, it then crosses the plains, serving Washingcube, Freshney and Pasadena. At Pasadena, a transfer is provided to Taiga Line A19. After A19, it turns to the north and crosses above Taiga Line.

After Pasadena, it enters mountainous terrain and goes across Waterville. In Waterville, you can find the shortest distance between two stations in the entire MRT system: A22-A23 stations with a distance of about 160 meters. After going across Waterville, it enters the northwest tundra, starting with Armada and passing through Lancaster, Cicero, Lucerne and finally, Snowtopic. At A31 station, the tracks switch styles, switching from a stone brick viaduct to a quartz viaduct with glass and concrete sides.

Arctic Extension

The Arctic Extension begins at A32 in Snowtopic, after leaving the station, it immediately dips underground under existing Snowtopic development. It crosses A92 and after A33 station, it goes north across the tundra. In Arcadium, it goes above roads, then turns to the west crossing above the channel that connects Hibernal Sea and Lake 4 together.

After crossing the channel, it goes through Aquatopia, Winterville, Silverville, Frostbite, Saint Albans, Beacon and Georgetown. At A45 in Saint Albans, another transfer to Taiga Line is provided.

At Norwest, it leaves the northwestern tundra and enters the Aurora region. It then goes across forests, passing through Sky Atlantis and Kaloro City.

Arctic Extension 2

West of A54 station in Kaloro City, it switches to a track style reminiscent of extensions built by Missa_Solemnis: wide quartz viaducts with a bowl-shaped bottom and circular-shaped tunnels. After passing Aurora Rail tracks to Kaloro City West, it snakes through to avoid nearby mountains. Upon entering Bristol, it descends underground to avoid existing development in Bristol before it arrives at A56 station, with an interchange to Western Line.

Arctic Extension 3

After A56 station in Bristol, it switches to a track style inspired by the original segment of Arctic Line built by _frozen. Upon leaving Bristol, it makes 1 more stop, A57 in Kaloro Harbour before crossing Misty Lake, where it rises above ground for 2 stops, across forests before descending again across Misty Lake. As soon after it crosses Misty Lake for a second time, it rises again to A60 station, before descending again underground in order to serve Kansai. After Kansai, it remains above ground for most parts except around Cirno Bay at A63 station and Tournesol at A66 station, and A67 station.

At A68 station, a transfer is provided to Union Line. After A68, it goes across the plains, with A69 station being located around 100 meters from ice spikes, before finally terminating at A70 station, which is underground to facilitate future extension to the northwest.
