The Auburn Underground is a rapid transit system serving the town of Auburn. It draws influences from the London Underground.

History

The Underground was formed to serve as an east-west connector for Auburn, which has plans to expand significantly and is thus in need of a rapid transit system. The Underground is the only public transport system serving the town of Auburn, and due to campus security concerns, does not change with the other rapid transit system in Auburn, the Academy Rapid Transit System.

Lines

The Auburn Underground currently has two lines under construction. No other lines are planned.

District line

The District line borrows its name from London's eponymous subsurface line, which was chosen due to the line's stations spanning many of Auburn's districts. It is coloured green and will run from Bascule station to Airport station via Roundabout station — where it will interchange with the Metropolitan line — once complete. The District line was originally planned to also serve two branches from Roundabout station — one to Peninsula station and one to Stadium station — but these branches have been transferred to comprise the Metropolitan line.

Metropolitan line

The Metropolitan line also borrows its name from London's eponymous subsurface line and references the line's route through the centre of the town. It is coloured magenta and will run from Peninsula station to Stadium station via Roundabout station — where it will interchange with the District line — once complete. The Metropolitan line will serve what was originally envisioned as the Peninsula and Stadium branches of the District line.

Stations

There are six stations on the Underground network, with five planned, for a total of eleven stations in the complete network.

Depots

Auburn Underground has a depot and heavy maintenance facility adjacent to Airport Station known as Aviation Depot & Works. This depot serves the District line and is the interim depot for the Metropolitan line until a separate depot is constructed; all major maintenance work is performed at this depot. Aviation Depot & Works is accessed by a track branching off the Bascule-bound track west of Aviation station.

Rolling stock

The Auburn Underground operates one type of rolling stock, the S4 Stock, on the District and Metropolitan lines.

The S4 Stock is an electric multiple unit passenger train powered by a fourth rail manufactured by Tempo Transportation, a Bratsche company, in 2022. Each trainset consists of four cars with open gangways, two of which are driving motor (DM) cars, and the other two being non-driving motor (NDM) cars. The cars are arranged in two pairs of DM-NDM, with the driving motor cars on each end, to form each trainset. A complete trainset is 93 metres long.
