Celina is a town in the New World in northern Ward 2, sitting at the northernmost extreme of the Lake 33 coastline. It sits in a semi-rare Sunflower Plains biome, flanked by two mountain ranges to the west and east, near several forests primarily in the north, and a savannah to the south. It has a warm climate with moderate rainfall.
It is the third significant settlement founded by Vickiposa, after the towns of Larkspur and Kanterlyn, being claimed and settled on the opening day of Zeta on 29 February 2020. It was formally incorporated by its ascension to Councillor rank on 23 May 2020.
Name
The town's name, Celina, comes from a Texan town based in northwest Collin county. It is north of, and a rapidly-growing exurban community of, Dallas.
Locals pronounce it as "sih-LAI-nah", or /sɪ'laɪnə/ in the IPA. This is the official pronunciation promoted by the Celina government on the MRT. However, an external pronunciation exists, adopted by fellow members of MRT, namely "sah-LI-nah", or /sə'linə/ in the IPA. This pronunciation is accepted, but not endorsed by, the Celina government.
History
The site of Celina was not discovered until after Frumple bought the Zeta machine in 2019 and began the process of setting up the server, including preparing to expand the New World from its radius of 18km to 30km. When maps of the new terrain came out in November 2019, Vickiposa, at the time making preparations to get Larkspur to Premier, was eager to get a new town started after its promotion. She wanted the town to be coastal, and to be more dense and cosmopolitan than its current mostly suburb-style predecessor. Furthermore, she wanted to establish and develop a metro system which Larkspur notably lacked. She scouted the map and picked about 30 sites in mid-Zeta that were potential town sites, one of which is the current city's site. However, she first picked a site east of what is now New Mackinaw on the eastern end of the New Mackinaw penninsula. However, competing claims with EliteNeon, as well as the awkward and unsuitable land for her urban plans made her abandon the site sometime prior to the Zeta migration. This was about the same time Vicki realized the potential of the current town's site.
On the opening day of Zeta, after using MinecraftYoshi26's claim to what would become Itokani as a springboard to reach the site due to lag, the claim to Celina was officially staked at 17:19 on 29 February. MC_Protocol, the future deputy mayor due to his build style and a history of close cooperation, built a campfire on the beach where the Port Authority Building would later be built. The first thing properly built as part of the city was Margrave Square. From there, the harbor was built in anticipation to connect via boat and a failed first attempt at a city hall was worked on. After the March 2020 GSM, permission to build a short waterway connecting Lake 33 to the Northern Ocean was approved and promptly built, allowing Hummingbird Boat Lines and BART to establish Celina's first physical connections to the outside world.
Progress in the early months was slow due to other projects (such as Vicki's MRT Northern Line extension), as well as overdetailing some early builds, which didn't produce as much progress towards higher ranks as the same amount of effort on more lower quality builds would. Regardless, the town would gain Councillor on 23 May 2020, endorsed by Mossie and godzilltrain.
