Like in the MLS, two single person teams will face head to head twice, once at each team's home arena. Once a set of games has been fulfilled, they may not play each other again until the Playoffs. If all teams have completed their Season, the Playoffs will be moved up at the discretion of the Chairman.

Playoffs

A two week playoff period will commence upon the end of the Regular Season, ending on Friday, October 30th. The four teams with the best Overall Record will qualify for the Playoffs. The all teams will face one other team in the Playoffs. The 2020 MRT Sumotori Championship will take place on Saturday, October 31st, 2020, comprising of the two teams that beat their Playoff opponents.

Arenas

The ESL uses the MRTSA Arena List and has the power to update said list.

There are currently 50 MRTSA certified arenas on the MRT.

Central City - Chadwick Aaron Boseman Memorial Stadium

The ESL maintains a public-use Sumotori Arena in Central City immediately adjacent to  MH  Central City — Hill Street for all teams to use if they do not have an arena of their own.

Rules

The ESL uses the Standard MRTSA Rules with slight variation.

Sumotori is a PvP game played on a 7 by 7 square platform surrounded on all sides by a moat of water at least two blocks wide. The object of the game is for one player to punch their opponent into the moat.

How the Game Works

A full game of Sumotori is called a bout. Each bout is divided into rounds. Each round begins with a 3-2-1 countdown and ends when one player has fallen into the moat. Whenever a player wins a round, they get a point. The bout is played in a best-of-nine rounds format. A player may win either by winning more rounds than their opponent or by knocking out their opponent.
Knockouts: A player wins by knockout when they kill their opponent during play. If the player who wins by knockout was already winning or the score is tied, one point is added to their final score. If the player who wins by knockout was losing before the knockout, as many points as are necessary for the player to lead by 1 are added to their score. For example, if Scott leads a bout against Ben 5-2 but Ben knocks out Scott in the eighth round, Ben wins the bout 6-5.

Starting a Game

Equipment: both players must be wearing a gold chestplate, gold leggings, gold boots, and a leather cap. Armor may not be repaired or replaced for the duration of a bout.
Items: both players must start with a bucket of milk, three Notch apples, and at least one stack of 64 steak. Apples and Steak may only be eaten between rounds.
Before the first round of a game both players must switch into adventure mode, face each other in the ring, drink their buckets of milk, and eat their first Notch apple - in that order. One player then gives a 3-2-1 countdown to start the first round and each round of the game.

Tournament Play

An officially-sanctioned MRTSA tournament must contain at least three players and may be held at any MRTSA arena listed below. Tournaments may be played in either round-robin or single-elimination format and cash prizes may be awarded to the winners if the players choose to do so.
Round-Robin: In a round-robin tournament every player plays one bout against every other player in their group, which may contain between three and six players. The winner of the group is the player who has the best record after having a bout against each other player in the group. In the event of a tie in the final standings, the player who has the better point differential wins. If there is still a two-way tie for first, the two players have a one-round playoff to determine the winner. If three or more players are tied, they have a mini-round-robin of one-round playoffs among themselves. The player with the best record or, if necessary, the best point differential following the mini-round-robin wins the group. If there are two groups in a tournament the winners of the two groups play a full eight-round bout to determine the winner of the tournament. If the score following eight rounds is 4-4, a ninth round is played to break the tie. If there are three or more groups in the tournament a second round robin among the group winners is played to determine the winner using the same tiebreaker rules explained above.
Single-Elimination: In a single-elimination tournament (works best with 4, 8, 16, or 32 players) participants play a bout in first-to-five format. In a first-to-four bout the first player to either win four rounds or score a knockout wins the bout. Losers are eliminated while winners advance to the next round until the championship bout between the final two players determines the tournament's winner.
