Freshney Canal

The Freshney Canal is a canal on the New World, linking the Seneca Canal at West Calbar with Freshney. It consists of 4 sections: West Calbar, the Mid-Diagonal, the Freshney straight and the River Freshney, and acts as an important link for the Arctic Plains. It was finally completed on 4 October 2015.

It is rather unique in that due to its age it did not require advance GSM permissions and rather only admod permission. That said, boat services on the large bulk of the Canal (West Calbar to Freshney) did not start until October 2016, around a year after they were intended to begin.

Route Detail

The canal is divided into 4 sections, which allowed a better structure, better organisation and clear goals during construction. Since then, these sections have no real meaning, although their boundaries are largely very present.

West Calbar

Starting from the previous end of the Seneca Canal, the canal continues as a thinner, shallower canal. It continues North, curves West and goes straight until the West Calbar lock. This lock leads to the River Calbar, and can be used as a passing point for smaller ships into the busy West Calbar Harbour which lies further West. The main canal continues West for 120 blocks, where this section ends.

Mid-Diagonal

This is, as the name suggests, a completely diagonal section that continues South-West for 130 blocks. Most of this section follows the old river Freshney, which the canal makes redundant for this section.

Freshney Straight

The 230 block long section of the Freshney straight makes the canal once again continue West. It features one of 2 under-land cuttings on the canal, the other being in the West Calbar section. This section stretches from the old, redundant River Freshney to the new, reinforced river.

River Freshney

This section, starting from the end of the man-made canal sections (mostly), is the reinforcement of the old River Freshney which lies south of the town. The "canal" starts curving North and then splits, to either enter the Port of Freshney or to the rest of the River Freshney.

Boat Services

Port of Freshney

See Port of Freshney for more, accurate details

Constructed around June 2015, the Port has capacity for 3 boats despite being originally designed for 6.

All 3 docks are owned by FreshFerries, with one services operating as FreshCruises and another dock currently unused.

West Calbar Harbour

See West Calbar Harbour for more, accurate details

Despite being built later than the Port of Freshney, the West Calbar Harbour had boat connections made soon after canal completion.

A variety of services are available by several operators. FreshFerries operate a service across the majority of the canal.
