The Lanayru Isles (pronounced La-nai-roo) are a geographical region and town consisting of several islands and the surrounding ocean. The majority of said region is claimed by the Kingdom of Cattington as an overseas territory, as did the Epsilonian Republic formerly, since as of August 8th, 2020, as it’s owner, Purrcat2010, left said nation. The islands are located in Zeta, almost due west of Central City. The.name is a reference to a region in the video game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. In fact, nearly every name is taken from things connected to water from mythology and pop culture. It is home to one town, Tarrey.

Real

The Lanayru Isles were claimed by Purrcat2010 a few days after Zeta opened. To retain the claim in accordance to the MRT Rules, he founded the town of Tarrey on the largest island and designated the majority of the geographical reason as an overseas territory of the same name. Over time, Purrcat2010 built several things including but not limited to a town hall, a ferry transit system powered by warps (Purrcat2010's first use of warps), and a community garden. Purrcat2010 also hired a deputy mayor by the Minecraft username of dartvader2005. The town is well on it's way to Councillor.

Islands

The following are descriptions for the named islands of the Lanayru Isles.

Lehon Island

Lehon Island (pronounced Lee-hawn) is the largest island in the Lanayru Isles. It is home to the largest population of any of the islands in the Lanayru Islands. It has two lakes, Tarrey Lake to the north and Lehon Lake to the south. Two rivers flow from Tarrey Lake, Ouest River and Est River, the names for these rivers come from the French for West and East respectively. The name is an obscure reference to an aquatic planet with some tropical islands of the same name from Star Wars.

Tarrey

Tarrey was founded on March 2, 2020. It’s name is also a reference to the aforementioned video game. Purrcat2010 being the town’s mayor and dartvader2005 being the town’s deputy mayor. As for town councilors, there are currently none. While Tarrey is primarily confined to Lehon Island, no doubt about it in the future it will have separate urban areas on other islands in the Lanayru Isles that are under it’s administration. Tarrey is currently served by Tarrey Ferry Service that was complimentary to a metro system that was in the planning stages, but was canceled for practicality reasons. Therefore, Tarrey Ferry Service is the sole mass transit service in the town and the surrounding area.

Little Lehon Island

Little Lehon Island is an island smaller than it’s larger sibling to the north. It has a small forest on it. It has no permanent civilian population. However, it does have a research station run by the KoC Science Commission.

Mare Island

Mare island is an even smaller, barren island. There is currently no human presence there except for a military base run by the Cattington Armed Forces. The name mare comes from the Latin word for sea.

Thales Atoll

Thales Atoll is an atoll that in itself has three small and, for the most part, barren islands (in descending order of size), Big Thales, Little Thales, and Arrow Islands (the last one, Arrow Island, is currently the smallest named island in the Lanayru Isles). All of the component islands of Thales Atoll surround a patch of ocean called Heart Bay, which is called that because it is vaguely heart-shaped (though the only way to effectively view the shape of the bay is on Dynmap). It has no human presence on it, as it is part of the Lanayru Coral Reefs National Monument. However, it does have a lone jungle tree planted by Purrcat2010 on Big Thales Island and on each of the three islands within the atoll, there are markers denoting each of the islands. The name comes from the Ancient Greek philosopher of the same name, who proposed that the whole universe was ultimately made out of water (of course, we now know this is not true).

Viking Island

Viking Island is a small, barren island due north of Lehon Island. It has no human presence on it, as it is part of the Lanayru Coral Reefs National Monument. It is named after the well-known medieval people of the same name and a trench to the south of it that vaguely resembles an inverted Viking helmet, which is called Viking Trench as such.. The Vikings were merchants and farmers as well as warriors and seafarers. They also had a large polytheistic religious tradition that is fairly well-known, before much of the Vikings converted to Christianity and wrote their myths down for future generations to enjoy.

Oceanus Island

Oceanus Island is a medium sized island to the northwest of Lehon Island that has two forested areas on it. It currently has no human presence on it. The northern end of the island is part of the Lanayru Coral Reefs National Monument. The island is named after the first generation Titan and god of saltwater from Greek Mythology of the same name and is a throwback to Purrcat2010's failed The 12 Titans Project.

Turtle Island

Turtle Island is another large island like Lehon Island , but to said island's northeast. It has three forested areas on it, with the largest one in the middle of the island. It was initially thought to have no human presence on it. However, on closer inspection, there was discovered to be a flag marking the island or part of the island as whoever owned the flag’s town’s own. Portions of the island's land in the island's northwest used to be a part of the Lanayru Coral Reefs National Monument, but are no longer because of the aforementioned discovery. The name comes from the aquatic, hard-shelled reptile of the same name and the fact that the island vaguely resembles a turtle rearing it's head up from the water.
