The MRT Football League, or MFL, is a football league created by samyankeesfan20. The games are played in East Side Stadium, in Crystal City. So far, a new stadium is being built, but games can be played.

How to Play Football

Now some of you are probably wondering..."Football on the MRT? That is some stupid ish right there." It is really quite simple.

I. Offense

a. The offensive team consists of a quarterback (QB), and every other man is a wide receiver (WR). The QB says, "HIKE", very distinctly in the chat to alert everyone that a play is happening. The QB tries to hit his receiver with the snowball (all players are on survival). If it hits the receiver, it's a catch, and the receiver can keep running until he gets tacked (punched). Every 10 yards, a first down is gained. There are 4 downs. Handoffs, so to speak, can happen if the running back (RB) stands "inside" the QB, QB hikes the ball, throws it to the RB out of the backfield and he runs it. Touchdowns happen when the WR/RB catches the ball in the end zone, OR runs into the end zone after catching the pass/taking the "handoff."

II. Defense

a. The defensive players try to cover the WR/RB (s) so that they can not make a play, making live difficult for the QB. I recommend going 1-on-1 with each receiver, with either a man playing up in the QB's face, making it impossible to throw, or playing as a safety and making sure the WR doesn't catch the pass. Defenses get one blitz per set of downs, which means they rush in and tackle the QB. Once the blitz is used, they CAN NOT use it until a new set of yards is picked up, or a penalty will be called.

b. Takeaways

i. A takeaway is when the defensive player intercepts the pass thrown by the QB. The defensive back can then try to run it into the end zone, until he gets tackled.

III. Special Teams

a. To start the game, there is a kickoff, which is a player throwing a snowball off to the receiving team trying to return the kick into good field position. Kickoffs CAN NOT be made across the 10 yard line, as a penalty will be called. Also, if the kickoff goes into the stands, it is also a penalty. This rule may seem stupid, but this is to provide spice to the game, therefore giving the teams a chance to return the ball. Kickoffs will also happen after every scoring play (A touchdown [TD] or field goal [FG]).

b. Field goals can be kicked whenever a team feels like they want some points (i.e. a 4th down). There are 2 people involved in field goal kicking: the kicker, and the holder. The holder stands on the line of scrimmage (L.o.S.) and says, "HIKE" to notify the kicker to start running up. The kicker is standing 5 yards directly behind the holder. They throw the ball through the uprights to make the kick, which is worth 3 points. If the kicker passes the holder and then throws the ball through, the kick is waved off, the defense gets the ball, and a penalty is assessed. The defense stands 10 yards away from the holder trying to block the kick. If a kick is blocked, the play is dead, and the defense gets the ball.

c. Extra Points (PATs) happen after a touchdown. A 1-point kick occurs from the 10 yard line, and the field goal rules apply (exception: defense gets ball there, penalty assessed on ensuing kickoff). A 2-point conversion can happen, which is like a regular play from the goal line. If the pass is intercepted, the play is dead.

d. A punt happens on a fourth down when the offensive team doesn't want to take any risks in giving the opponent good field position. So, a punter stands 20 yards back of the L.o.S. and kicks/throws the ball down the field to a return man. The return man tries to run back the kick for a TD (kickoffs you can do this too). If the punter throws the ball into the stands, a penalty is assessed.

IV. Penalties

a. Minor

i. Illegal Touching (WR runs out of bounds only to come back in and make catch) 5 yard penalty, repeat down.

ii. False start/Offsides (WR/defensive player crosses L.o.S. before HIKE is called. 5 yard penalty, repeat down.

b. Moderate

i. Warding (Kick returner punches defensive player out of the way) 10 yard penalty, slowness (short) applied, 1st down.)

ii. Illegal kick (Kicker/punter kicks ball into stands) Ball is placed on kicking team's 40 yard line, 1st down.

c. Major

i. Unsportsmanlike Conduct (anything bad) 15 yard penalty, slowness (long) is applied, 1st down.

ii. Substance Abuse (player is caught using strength, durability, speed, etc) Player is ejected from game. Multiple offenses can lead to a ban from league.

Getting There

Now you might be wondering, this looks pretty cool, so how do I get there? The fastest ways to transport yourself to the stadium are listed below.

  • Take the MRT to  R11  Crystal City Station, adjacent to the stadium.
  • Take the  5  Bus from Spawn City. The stadium is a few blocks southeast of the bus stop.
  • Take the Crystal City Metro lines  CCM ,  CCM  or  CCM  to one of the stadium stations.

A planned highway will also possibly be constructed adjacent to the stadiums.

Tournaments

If teams can be formed quickly, there will be tournaments held on the weekends. Random brackets will be created, and teams will try to win every game possible en route to the championship game. Every weekend, players will play 2 games, which would be the primetime one at 8:30, and a popular vote. (if anyone sees this fake kicks are allowed the kicker just runs right through the holder with ball :D)
