The MRT Northern Line, or simply the Northern Line, is one of the 22 lines of the New World MRT System and one of the 11 additional New World MRT lines.
History
The Northern Line was first mentioned in the New World MRT plans in August 2014. The route it took according to the plan is the northwestern corner with a terminal shared with Arctic, Taiga and Western Lines to the northeastern corner in a terminal shared with Zephyr and Eastern Lines. The MRT line extension agenda item in January 2015 GSM included a possible new line, Quagmire Line also going to the northeastern corner. The line also took a more southerly alignment to meet with Circle Line, as the C114 to C4 stations say that you could transfer to Northern Line in its arrival signs.
It wasn't until around September 2016 that RacCort (called CortesiRaccoon at this time) started building the eastern section from NE3 to NE18 and opened the extension in October 20, 2016. There was also some controversy that surrounded MRT Northern Line construction, that led to CortesiRaccoon almost dropping the project, but after the October 2016 GSM, decided against dropping it and continued work. He ended his role in building the line after resigning from staff in November 2016 and led to AP_Red taking over the project.
In December 2016 GSM, AP_Red started constructing the western section of Northern Line from the northwestern corner to NE3 , where CortesiRaccoon stopped at when he resigned from staff, taking a more northerly alignment via Pine Mountain compared to the alignment suggested in Gamma MRT line plans, and was numbered from N1 to N28 / NE3 . The section between N1 (now NW26 ) to N13 (now NW14 ) opened in March 5, 2017, and the section between N14 (now NW13 ) and N26 (now NW1 ) opened in April 15, 2017. Due to "complications" at Liten, it remained unconnected to the eastern section until a while later when it was finally connected through NX and the stations were renumbered to NW26 to N0 .
In Frumple's Epsilon MRT plans at the May 2017 GSM, Northern West would be extended to the western border, with an interchange with MRT Expo Line while Northern East would be extended southeast to an interchange with MRT Expo Line and the far east line now known as MRT Jungle Line. As part of the MRT Eastern Line extension, NEX in Nymphalia was built along with EN24 , with a short track stub curving over Eastern Line to in accordance with the route set in the plan.
In the Zeta MRT plans by Frumple at April 2020, Northern West would be extended to meet with MRT Western Line and then it goes west to Western Zeta along the shore of Lake 42, while Northern East would be extended to meet with Eastern Line then it would go northeast to the mega taiga in the east before it would either turn to the north, stopping just south of the mushroom island or continue east to the mega taiga.
In May 2020 GSM, VickiTori_ began building the extension of Northern West to Carnoustie. It was completed in May 17, 2020 and opened on the June 2020 GSM.
Meanwhile, there were many calls to extend Northern Line East as early as late 2019, with AP_Red and sesese9 indicating possible interest in working on this extension. However, it wasn't until the July 2021 ISM that sesese9 and Missa_Solemnis proposed an extension of Northern East from NE18 to NE30 via NEX Nymphalia - Cetisy. As part of the extension, NEX was renumbered to NE24 . It interchanges with the MRT Eastern Line, travelling in parallel with the Eastern line from NE22 to NE28 with an additional transfer at NE29 . It opened in the December 2021 GSM, with the GSM site being held at NE30 .
In the Zeta MRT plans by Frumple at November 2022, Northern West would be extended west to meet with MRT Union Line near the shore of Lake 42, while avoiding Norloch because its mayor, _HeavenAngel_ indicated he didn't want MRT in Norloch while Northern East would be extended northeast, meeting with MRT Union Line before terminating at Encinitas.

The Northern Line runs from Carnoustie to Cornwall via Liten and northern Gamma. The current travel duration for the line's entire length is approximately 97 minutes.
Northern West Extension
The style in this extension has 4-block-tall tunnels made out of quartz with blue concrete and redstone lamps along the way on the sides and down the center, and its ground and viaduct sections have a quartz bottom with blue lines running along the sides and the center, with redstone lamps placed on the center, and supported by quartz pillars.
The line begins at Carnoustie, at NW41. The line then goes through another station in Carnoustie, NW40. At both stations in Carnoustie, a transfer to MRT Western Line is available. The line then turns to the east and ascending above ground, passing through Nieuwburg, Lakestdale, Keriyowna, Winter Wind and Icelake, with the line going underground at Lakestdale and Icelake. West of Keriyowna, it goes across plains and forest biomes, then a tundra biome, crossing A8 on the way.
Northern West
At NW26, in Borealia and NW25, you can transfer to MRT Taiga Line. There are also tracks for MRT Western Line and MRT Arctic Line, which were built for old Gamma plans where those lines would reach the northwestern corner. Then, the line splits off from Taiga Line, then going across a taiga biome, where Larkspur, which takes up 4 stations from NW24 to NW21, and Snowdin at NW17 are in before entering another tundra biome. The style in this section is similar to early Gamma MRT lines; quartz bottoms with blue wool lines going down the center and sides with redstone lamps placed along the way, and 4-block-high tunnels with mixed blue wool, sea lanterns and quartz on the sides and top, and lacks sides and supported by quartz pillars in viaducts, and in ground sections, cobblestone walls are placed along the sides.
After entering the tundra biome, it then passes through Snowtopic, where you can transfer to MRT Arctic Line at NW14, and Kyoto, where the line goes underground until East Spruce, passing through Spruce Hills on the way. The style of the tunnels also change, to 3-block-high tunnels with andesite pillars along the way, and the center line on the tracks is now sea lanterns instead of redstone lamps, with minor changes being seen from NW17 to N0.
At this point, the line emerges into forest biomes, before entering a mountain biome, where the line goes underground again, passing through PMW City and Stoneedge. After NW3 station, the line crosses Hibernal Sea in an immersed tube with glass on the top and sides. before emerging into Quiris at NW2. The distance between these two stations is about 1.4km, the longest in Gamma territory. After going through the plains biome and crossing A1, the line enters Liten, where N0 is located and a transfer to MRT Zephyr Line is available.
Northern East
After passing through Liten, at N0 and NE1, the line goes above ground, going through a roofed forest biome, before entering North Coast territory. In North Coast, it goes through Hendon and Geneva Bay before turning to follow the coast of Monterey Lake, going through Creeperville and St. Anna, and crossing the Northeastern Strait. The same style from Northern West is used up to NE3, where it gets a different style: quartz surface with iron placed under the rails and a blue wool centerline, with birch on the sides and supported by incarnate quartz pillars, with blue wool in it, and arch-shaped tunnels with quartz walls, and blue lines going across the sides.
From St. Anna, it passes through forest biomes before crossing a mountain biome, where Ravenna is, which goes from NE12 to NE15 stations, and is mostly bound by A270. After crossing the mountain biome, it goes through Aviation, entering the Northern Peninsula and crosses A360 before ending up in Titsensaki.
Northern East Extension
In Titsensaki, after NE18 station, it immediately goes underground, going through Heaven City. The style in this extension is like Eastern North Extension: stone surface with cobblestone wall on the sides, with a blue concrete line running along the center with sea lanterns along the way, and brick-arch viaducts. After that, it crosses Northern Ocean in an immersed tube before emerging above ground to Fort Chipewyan, where it uses a custom style. After going through Fort Chipewyan, the concurrency with MRT Eastern Line begins, and both lines then go through Nymphalia.
In Nymphalia, the line goes above MRT Eastern Line between NE22 and NE23, before descending just west of NE24 station. In this section, custom designs are used for the Northern Line viaduct. From NE24 station, there is a stream running down the space between MRT Northern and Eastern Lines. The lines then goes underground through Padagonia and Broville, before ascending again. At NE28 station in Merritt Lakes, the lines split, with MRT Eastern Line turning to parallel MRT Jungle Line, and MRT Northern Line descending underground on the way to Dwarka. After that, the line then ascends above ground, crossing A2 and then entering Cornwall, where the line terminates.
