The MRT Southern Line, or simply the Southern Line, is one of the 22 lines of the New World MRT System and one of the 11 additional New World MRT lines built after the opening of the New World.

History

The Southern Line was first mentioned in the New World MRT plans in August 2014. It would've went from the southwestern corner with a terminal shared with Western, Mesa and Desert Lines to the southeastern corner in a terminal shared with Island, Plains, Valley, Eastern and Forest Lines, before it was changed so it now terminates in a terminal shared with Valley and Forest Lines. Some Southern Line stations and track sections from the old Gamma alignment can be found at and around  ZS22 ,  ZS23 ,  C51 - I20 ,  C46 - V27 , and  P37  to  P40 .

The routing of Southern, Island, Valley, and Zephyr Lines as decided in February 2018 GSM.
The Southern Line now goes via Southfort instead of the southern mesa in accordance with Frumple's Epsilon MRT plans.

In Frumple's Epsilon MRT plans at the May 2017 GSM, due to a lack of progress before the world expansion, it was relocated to its current location along the southern border of Epsilon. Instead, it now runs between southwest Epsilon, terminating with Western and Desert Lines, and southeast Epsilon, terminating with Eastern Line and the far east line, now known as Jungle Line. In February 2018 GSM, the routing of Southern East was adjusted to go through Southfort (called Southport at this time) instead of the southern mesa.

Also in February 2018 GSM, SimonScholar (called godzilltrain at this time) was approved to build Southern East from S0 to SE26 via Southfort, following the route as decided later in the GSM. It was completed and opened in June 2018 GSM. When it opened, it remained isolated from the rest of the MRT system until godzilltrain built Island and Valley Line extensions to connect with Southern Line, with the Island and Valley Line extensions opening in January 2019 GSM.

Following discussion on where Southern West should go and where it should terminate, godzilltrain was approved to build Southern West from S0 to SW38 via Tinimia in May 2019 GSM, taking a different alignment compared to Frumple's plan, instead terminating at the southwestern tundra, and opened in July 13, 2019, the 7th anniversary of MRT server.

In the Zeta MRT plans by Frumple at April 2020, Southern East would be extended east to the southeastern corner, with either 2 alignments: cutting straight through the ocean and following the coast along Coral Sea, while Southern West would be extended to the southwest, with 2 alignments possible terminating at different parts of MRT Western Line.

In August 2020 GSM, godzilltrain proposed a extension of Southern West to Uacam Beach, but it was rejected due to new guidelines for MRT line into Zeta saying that lines into Zeta should connect established cities and towns in Zeta.

In September 2021 GSM, Missa_Solemnis was approved to extend this line and MRT Desert Line, both of the routings differing significantly from Frumple's Zeta MRT plans. Instead going to the southwest, it would instead terminate in Nansei-Gunto.

In the Zeta MRT plans by Frumple at November 2022, Southern West would have some changes. The existing alignment through Nansei-Gunto would become part of MRT Union Line, with the SW48-49 tunnel being abandoned, then extended west starting from  SW48 , while Southern East would be extended to Ellerton Fosby to meet with Union Line, following the coast of Coral Sea.

In October 2022 ISM, __7d and AP_Red proposed an extension of Southern East to Ellerton Fosby, nicknamed "The Ellextension™️" in order to avoid using "Southern East Extension" which abbreviates to SEX. __7d built the extension east from  SE26  and AP_Red built west from Ellerton Fosby. It was completed in late January 2023 and opened in February 2023 GSM.

In late February 2023, Southern West was cut back to  SW49  in Shahai, stopping in a new station under the existing station, which became part of MRT Union Line with the tracks being  SW49 - SW54  being transferred, and the  SW54 - SW55  tracks being removed in favor of new underground tracks.

Route

The Southern Line runs from Shahai to Ellerton Fosby via southern Epsilon. The current travel duration for the line's entire length is about 158 minutes.

Southern West Extension

The line begins in SW49 station at Shahai. It used to begin at SW55 station, passing through Santa Abeja, Shenghua and Kazeshima when the extension was completed, going underground on the way Santa Abeja but as part of MRT Union Line Phase 6a, the section west of SW49 was transferred to MRT Union Line. The original section between SW49 and SW48 had odd turns when approaching SW49, and a portion of the tunnel still exists after it was transferred to Union Line.

This extension, including the part inherited by MRT Union Line is built in Missa_Solemnis's style is characterized with quartz viaducts and tunnels, with a yellow concrete line down the center. The viaducts have a bowl-shaped bototm, and the tunnels are roughly shaped like an oval, with additional lines on the sides and center.

The line then crosses Lake Gunto, before going above ground for SW48 station, an interchange with MRT Mesa Line. This station has a layout similar to the Expo/Jungle interchange at Bawktown. From there, the line crosses the southwestern tundra biome, staying relatively above ground, crossing A68 between SW42 and SW41 stations, before approaching SW38 station in Yukon where the extension ends.

Southern West

This section is built in SimonScholar's style (called godzilltrain at this time), with tunnels and viaducts being made of quartz, with yellow wool lines and redstone lamps dotted along the way. The viaducts also have yellow wool lines lined with glass railings, and tunnels are 4 blocks tall.

While still in the southwestern tundra biome, the line goes through Haguenau and Sansvikk. Through Sansvikk, the tunnels and viaducts are instead made out of stone, with the floor being made out of spruce. Between SW33 and SW29 stations, the line parallels with MRT Savannah Line. From SW31 station, the line goes underground, crossing the canal connecting Heart Lake and Gray Cloud Lake and leaving the tundra biome.

The line then follows the northern coast of Heart Lake, still remaining underground until SW27 station, except for a brief section around SW28 station, the last transfer station for MRT Savannah Line before it goes north. After passing through Villanueva, the line goes back underground, going through Gillmont and crossing the canal connecting Heart Lake and Lake 12.

After crossing the canal, the line goes across plains and dark oak forest biomes, going through Auburn, where the design changes in order to match with Auburn's look, then Southbank, Eskis and finally Tinimia, going underground when going across dark oak forest biomes. It then goes across the edge of a mountain biome through Lowami and Newbourne, remaining underground. In Newbourne, a transfer to MRT Oasis Line is available.

From Newbourne, the line passes through Harton Bay, then going underground before crossing the small lakes that connect Lake Lumeva and Estival Sea together. At this point, the line enters Lumeva territory after passing through Liston.

In Lumeva territory, the line goes through the forest biomes, from New Izumo to Foresne, passing through Southoak. It remains relatively above ground in this section, before entering the mountain biome where it exits Lumeva territory. The line passes through the mountains underground, except around SW4 station, and ends in Holloway at SW3 station.

After passing through Lumeva territory, the line goes east across the plains biomes to S0 station in Dand, which is an interchange station with MRT Zephyr Line.

Southern East

This section is also built in SimonScholar's style. At S0 in Dand, where Southern East begins, there is an approximately 3-minute walk/swim to the old southern Epsilon world border. The line goes across a small mountains biome, going underground before SE2 to cross Equinox Ocean. After reaching SE3, the line continues east, passing through Victoria, Edwardsburg, Veldberg, Cactus River and Aeolia. At Edwardsburg, there is a transfer to MRT Island Line and likewise for Aeolia except with MRT Valley Line. East of Edwardsburg, the line is relatively above ground, before going underground when entering Aeolia.

The line stays underground after Aeolia. Then, it visits Lichtenberg and Southfort before going back above ground briefly until SE16 station where it goes back underground to cross Equinox Ocean again. The distance between Cedric and Murrville, at SE17 is about 1.7km. Between Victoria and Cedric, at SE16 station, the line traverses savannah and desert biomes, with a shattered savannah biome around Aeolia, and remains relatively straight until Southfort.

After crossing the ocean, the line enters Murrville. Then, it passes under Murrville-Arcadia International Airport. Under Murrville-Arcadia Airport, remains of the original alignment can be found, with an incline and many pillars buried underground. The line then goes above ground, entering Arcadia. In Arcadia, the design of the viaduct is relatively complicated, being made out of concrete, supported with andesite pillars that are Y-shaped. Through Murrville and Arcadia, it takes a south-eastern trajectory before continuing straight into the savannah biome east of SE20.

After passing through Aardvark, the line enters Bahia. The towns served by Southern Line in Bahia are Alta Mesa, Port Mimosa and Desertside. In Port Mimosa, there is a transfer to MRT Jungle Line, via a short passageway.

Southern East Extension

The style in this extension was mostly determined by __7d, with viaducts being made of quartz, with the tracks being separated with a gap, and supported by diorite pillars, and tunnels made out of stone, being shaped like tubes with yellow lines along the sides and top. Additionally, the stations in this extension are much longer compared to other stations elsewhere in the system, with arrivals and departure bays being located in the other side under the opposite direction's tracks.

From Desertside, the line begins to follow A45 and the northeastern coast of Coral Sea. After passing through more of Bahia, the line leaves Bahia territory after SE29 station, crossing a lake. When crossing the lake, it rises to a height of Y=95, tied with MRT Union Line at U50, and only 2 blocks lower than MRT Beach Line at BS3. The next town after Bahia is Sunshine Cove, at SE32 station. Before arriving at Sunshine Cove, the line goes underground.

After passing through Sunshine Cove, the line goes into an immersed tube underwater on the way to SE33 station, before continuing to follow A45 and the coast, going through forest biomes. Then, the line arrives at Mojangbahru and Eastbourne, and finally passing through the savannah biome to Ellerton Fosby, where SE41 and SE42 stations are located. After crossing A45 into Ellerton Fosby, the line now has an andesite surface, with yellow terracotta line running down the center. The line terminates at SE42 station, with a transfer to MRT Union Line.
