MS Lake Diamond is an upcoming Diamond-class cruise ship being built for Nansei Cruise Lines. She is named after, and the lead ship of, her class. She is the largest cruise ship in active service at 33,013 GT, beating Azalea Cruises' Azalea Arctic by over 7,000 GT.

History

Announcement

Lake Diamond was planned as far back as late April 2021, when AirplaneNiner of Nansei Cruise Lines decided to create a new class of ship, bigger than any other ship before it. NCL's current Pearl ships were small, cramped, and didn't have as many amenities on board as other ships like Azalea Arctic and Uzmo Destiny. When asked about the name Lake Diamond as a potential ship name, Airplane responded with "Maybe...", prompting people to deduce that a future ship would be called Lake Diamond.

On May 1, Lake Diamond and sister Lake Jade was announced as a 'new class of ship':

Yep, we're getting larger ships! It's up to you to find out the name of the next two ships we're building, all part of a new class of 130m long ships. The first people to tell me the correct names of the next two ships get their name on them!

She was announced immediately as sailing between Geneva Bay, Winterside and Hendon. On May 2, fwis correctly guessed Lake Diamond, and his name was put on the ship when it was constructed.

Construction

Lake Diamond started construction on 5 June 2021, off-server, next to her main rival Elation of the Seas, of Royal Nanseisian. The announcement also announced more destinations, as shown below. She was quickly built up, with her superstructure completed by the end of the day. By 6 June, most of the exterior had been completed and work had started on the interior. The K1.0 Eng I8 diesel engines were fitted onto the ship, going out through the massive funnel at the top. The rest of the ship was completed on 7 June, and a 9-day period started to do final checks on the ship before being pasted into the drydock on the MRT for finalization.

She was towed from Wenyanga on 15 June and arrived into New Singapore on 16 June, where she entered the azaleaone drydock. There were fears that she may not fit into the dock, but the dock was more than big enough to fit her, and work began on finalization. Input was taken from outside sources over improvement of the ship. She left the drydock on 15 July, and was weighed, where she earned her title of world's largest cruise ship. She is expected to enter service out of Geneva Bay on a reduced schedule at the end of July, skipping ports that cannot hold her until they are ready.
