This page contains a series of rule changes proposed by Frumple, owner of the Minecart Rapid Transit server, with contributions from the administrators, moderators, and members of the server. This proposal has been made public with the intention of collecting feedback from server members and make the rule change process more transparent.

If you would like to send feedback about one or any of these rules changes, please send an e-mail to the general admin address (admin@mrt). The admins will then review all feedback and implement the finalized rule changes on a future date that has not yet been determined.

Before going through the list of proposed changes, we would like to note the following principles that we wanted to encourage when writing these new rule changes:

  • Fewer rules and shorter rules. The more rules text that people have to read, the less likely they will read them and abide by them.
  • Clearer rules. The text of some rules can be be made less ambiguous and less likely for people to find workarounds or loopholes for.

The rule proposal (2013-01.760) is listed below.

New disclaimer statements

The following disclaimer statements are proposed to be added:

+  "By connecting to the MRT server, you accept responsibility to abide by the following rules and policies at all times. You are also responsible for your own Minecraft account and all actions performed by that account."

+  "These rules are designed to cover most situations, however not everything can be anticipated. Staff members reserve the right to take appropriate action for any behavior or action deemed unacceptable for the server and community."

Any further proposals should be made on the talk page or through email.

General rules

The following proposals have been made for the General Rules:

A  “No griefing or trolling.” becomes “No griefing.” Trolling is really already covered by the “Be kind and respectful” rule, so mentioning it here seems redundant.

A  “Do not ask staff for teleports.” becomes “Do not excessively ask for teleports, WorldEdits, or MRT Station repairs.” Yes, this means that you can ask a staff member for a teleport to their location. Just don’t overdo it or turn your friendly staff member into your personal taxi service.

A  “Do not ask in chat to become a member, moderator, or administrator.” becomes “Do not ask to become a staff member.” Guests who ask in chat to become a member can be politely redirected to the website. For guests who pester staff about member apps, the following new rule will be useful:

+  “Do not ask staff in-game about the status of your member application. We will get to it when we have time.”

X  “No placement or usage of banned items.” This is redundant since we block banned items with plugins anyways. If a player is caught using banned items, they can be punished under the “No malicious client mods and hacks.” rule.

Any further proposals should be made on the talk page or through email.

MRT Rider Rules

The following proposal has been made for the MRT Rider Rules:

X  Remove the entire section and all of its rules. Staff rarely enforce these rules, and when someone violates them, they usually aren’t worth giving a warning for.

Any further proposals should be made on the talk page or through email.

Construction Rules

The following proposals have been made for the Construction Rules:

A  Adjust ownership and permissions for roads and rails. Our current system is set up so that whoever builds a road has ultimate authority over said road, and we have issued warnings for even the smallest modifications. What we would like to do is lift some of these restrictions so that more members can build roads, extend or intersect with existing roads, and make minor changes such as updating signage. The road owner will still be able to make some decisions, such as where the road ultimately goes, and the road owner is also the player responsible for communicating any unauthorized major changes to administrators, who will then carry out punishment as necessary. We are NOT just allowing members to build roads out of sponge, as we will be publishing road building guidelines that we will expect members to follow, and repeat violators may be punished accordingly. The roads rule is still in development by the staff; we will present it to you soon once we have figured it out. Please send suggestions to your nearest administrator and they will be incorporated into the discussion.

X  Remove "Modern city and town constructions are highly encouraged." and "Old pre-modern constructions (such as castles, ruins, wooden cabins, etc.) are acceptable in most areas." In most cases, the area has already been built up and has information about what kinds of structures have been built. In addition, we can edit the member application to ask incoming members what kinds of buildings they would like to add; we can take action from there.

Any further proposals should be made on the talk page or through email.

Building Restrictions

The following proposal has been made for the Building Restrictions:

 -  No changes at this time. New airports will continue to be banned, but at some point we may lift the ban so that people can connect their towns using warp signs to the Regional or International Airport. It has been suggested that lifting the ban on new airports will only happen once the International Airport has been completed. Spleef Arenas and amusement parks will continue to be allowed, and no other building type will be banned.

Any further proposals should be made on the talk page or through email.

Banned and Allowed Items

The following proposal has been made for the Banned and Allowed Items section:

A  Rewrite the section as follows:

The following items are not allowed:

  • Lava Buckets
  • Invisibility Potions and Splash Invisibility Potions
  • Ender Pearls
  • Eggs

The following blocks and items are allowed for [Trusted] members:

  • Ice
  • Buckets
  • Water Buckets
  • Spawn Eggs
  • Fireworks

The following blocks and items are allowed for everyone, but have restrictions:

  • Fire is allowed, but it does not spread or destroy blocks.
  • TNT is allowed, but it does not cause damage or explode.
  • Sponge is allowed, but it does not drain water.
  • Dispensers are allowed, but they cannot be used to dispense water, lava, spawn eggs, fireworks or TNT.

Any further proposals should be made on the talk page or through email.

Miscellaneous Proposals

The following miscellaneous proposal has been made:

A  Edit the member application to make the "Rules Test" harder, especially reflecting the new rules.

Any further proposals should be made on the talk page or through email.
