The Republic of Nansei-Gunto was a state in the southwest corner of Zeta on the New World. It was founded on 24 March 2020 by i____7d, Airplaneguy9 and mi_aquamarine. Its capital was New Singapore, one of several community towns on the MRT, where it was voted as capital by all parties.
Name
The name 'Nansei-Gunto' means 'Southwest Archipelago' in Japanese (南西群島). Wenyangans often call the region 'Iziqithi-emazanti', which means 'south islands' in Xhosa.
Nansei-Gunto used the domain .co.ng.
History
Beginning of Zeta
The first city to be established in what is now Nansei-Gunto was Kazeshima by i____7d, then Shenghua by mi_aquamarine, then Wenyanga by Airplaneguy9. All these towns were founded within a half hour of each other. Shenghua was the first town to set up a republic, namely the Republic of Shenghua, on the same day, 29 February 2020.
On 24 March 2020, i____7d, mi_aquamarine, and Airplaneguy9 signed the document that officially established the Nansei-Gunto Region. The three leaders met several times to discuss topics such as a capital, currency, and leader. mi_aquamarine was sworn in as the new leader of the Nansei-Gunto Region, and Shenghua was made the capital on 29 March 2020.
Early days
On 13 April 2020, Wenyanga not only went from the smallest to the largest city in just 10 days, but the first town to receive the Councillor rank. Kazeshima received Councillor on April 16, just a few days later. Shenghua has seen almost no builds since that date. The two towns getting Councillor were huge achievements for Nansei-Gunto, and put the region on the map for the first time. With the completion of Wenyanga Harbour on April 17, Hummingbird Boat Lines began serving the three islands daily, becoming the first of many domestic transit methods between islands.
However, Wenyanga's building boom ended there, and the city fell into slow building, similar to Shenghua, again., with no infrastructure on the city for many weeks. Kazeshima was an entirely different story altogether, as i____7d rushed to get the booming city to Mayor. New buildings were built, areas zoned, and FLR reigned supreme over the city. Things carried on like this for a few days, however, the three did not expect what happened next.
On 24 April, while Weier was on, he expressed interest in an island south of Kazeshima. Airplane, miaqua and i____7d encouraged him to settle, and on that day, Shahai was founded as Nansei-Gunto's fourth town. However, the first of many Kazeshima territory incidents would occur. While Weier was looking for a spot to start, i____7d told him that he wanted to claim the island first. This resulted in Weier and i____7d splitting up half the island to themselves, which did not go well with Airplaneguy9.
Shahai and Kazeshima were built up fairly quickly, but else nothing happened. Not until May did something huge happen.
New Singapore
On May 12, 2020. i____7d expressed interest in claiming a small sand island east of Wenyanga for his Senator airfield in the future. When Airplaneguy9 found out about this the next day, he sent Wenyangan troops to occupy the zone and declare it a nuclear testing site, and put barbed wire around the border. Nevertheless, soon Peacopolis got involved, then Shenghua, then Pixl, Marisol, and many other towns got involved in the island. While the island is officially called Macece Island, and was declared ownership by neither Kazeshima nor Wenyanga, but to Nansei-Gunto as a whole, it is now known as Grief Island. For half an hour, the island was littered with many wacky designs built by players. All involved decided to rollback the island after two days.
Soon afterward, impressed at how half the players on at the time were contributing to Grief Island, Airplaneguy9 suggested a community town, which everyone could contribute to. This resulted in 'that could work' reactions from everyone. Determined to test his idea, Airplaneguy9 sent Yellowitcher to scout an island for a new community town. Yellow and Seshpenguin found an island 2000 blocks east of Wenyanga, and Yellow placed the very first block of the new town. As Grief Island died down (to an exasperated i____7d), people were encouraged to start building in Community Town. After thinking that NSG (NanSei-Gunto) meant New Singapore (referring to Lumeva), Airplaneguy9 thought that the town was named New Singapore. When Airplane started referring to the town as New Singapore, everyone else thought that the name was New Singapore too. The name was later confirmed to be New Singapore. After a majority vote of 100%, New Singapore was proclaimed as the new capital of Nansei-Gunto.
The town grew fast, getting a promenade, a marketplace, and even an official Housing and Development Board (mi_aquamarine) and Director of Roads (Yellowitcher, self-proclaimed). However, one issue raised by EliteNeon was the possibility of being denied ranks due to there being no clear mayor. This sparked confusion as to who would be the mayor. Airplaneguy9 proposed elections to the position of Mayor of New Singapore. Despite this, it was agreed that mi_aquamarine would still be Governor of Nansei-Gunto.
On 15 February 2021, HarbourRandom852 was sworn in as the Mayor of New Singapore, with frogggggg as his deputy.
New towns
At this point, New Singapore grew so fast that it surpassed Wenyanga, Shenghua and Shahai as the second largest town behind Kazeshima. It was now a race between one player, i____7d, and 20 others, to see who could make their cities larger. As of 16 May 2020, Kazeshima is winning.
The rapid success of New Singapore meant that people wanted to settle in Nansei-Gunto. Two cities popped up soon afterward; FiorkG's city of Suncheon and ModernArt’s island colony of St Helena. Eventually, in August, Worrski started Akiko Bay, and in January, PaintedBlue started his town of Nueva Seriadé
Commonwealth
With the abolishment of democracy in Epsilon, and the move to a more monarchistic government, Airplaneguy9 announced the renaming of the Governor role to Prime Minister. Airplane took over the role of Prime Minister on March 24, 2021.
Wenyanga left the Commonwealth on May 13, 2021. The same day, Nansei-Gunto almost tripled in size with the addition of 7 new cities: Rizalburg, New South Canal, Yukon, New Southport, New Kaloro, and Panay.
Cruise industry
Airplane also established a brand new cruise line, known as Nansei Cruise Lines, on April 15, 2021. Interested in the idea, Weier also started his own cruise line Royal Nanseisian on April 19, 2021. This was followed by Aqua Cruises the next day, Azalea Cruises the next day, Zenith Cruises the next day, and National Sea Lines the next day - and they all had a dock in Wenyanga. This made Wenyanga Cruise Terminal the busiest in the region, as it was now visited by huge cruise ships including the largest cruise ship on the MRT at the time; MS Unity of the Seas. This made Nansei-Gunto the largest cruise ship market on the MRT, with all the other major cities quickly expanding their harbours to welcome the new massive ships. Airplane estimated the market would earn Nansei-Gunto almost triple the amount tourism previously earned the region.
Dissolution
On March 24, 2022, during the State of the Nation address, it was announced that Nansei-Gunto would dissolve, effective at 00:00 UTC due to inactivity. Two new city-states would be created: one containing Shenghua and its surronding areas and another containing New Singapore, St. Helena and its associated islands. All other cities would become part of Lumeva.
Geography
As its name suggests, Nansei-Gunto was found in the southwest area of Zeta. It was composed of three islands (Kazeshima, Shenghua and Shahai) and one coast connected to the mainland (Wenyanga). The region is mostly flat, and consists of Plains (Kazeshima) and Desert (Shenghua and Shahai) biomes. Wenyanga sits on a beach bordering a Plains biome. The region bordered no other regions, but daltdisneyland's town of Santa Abeja bordered the region to the northeast, and the border ended at the Savannah biome north of Wenyanga.
The region included the iceberg field east of Kazeshima, which are known as the Kazekori Ice Fields. They were protected by the Nansei-Gunto government, and it is forbidden to build anything but piers, flags, and signs (block) in the area. The City of Kazeshima sits on a plain, with an oak forest to the east, only claimed by Nansei-Gunto on 25 March. Before, they were no-man's-land. The collective name for the whole island is technically Kazeshima (wind island), but the name 'Kazeshima' is generally used to refer to just the city and not the entire island. Kazeshima contains the Setsuritsu Islets, made of 1 big island (Setsuritsushima) and 6 smaller islets, of which of the 6 islets, only islets 4 and 6 have piers on them, drawing tourists. Kazeshima also contains the Far Islets, an archipelago of 10 islets far apart from each other. They include the Terminal Islets 1-3 and the Far islets 1-7. Terminal Islets 1-3 are near the Kazeshima Ferry Terminal, while 4, 5 and 6 are reserved for a future animal-boat racing field. Islet 7 is the farthest, lying almost 2200 blocks south, in the only warm waters in the region.
The entire island of Shenghua, known as Shenghua-shima, is a completely desert island. There is one small plains area near the southeast coast, but the rest is all desert. It is twice as large as Kazeshima, and many rivers bisect the island. There is a lake, Kazemizumi (wind lake), in the middle of the island. The north section of the island is at some parts less than 100 blocks from the mainland. It is the flattest island, having an average height of 7basl (blocks above sea level).
The island of Shahai, southwest of the island of Kazeshima, is a relatively flat island fragmented by rivers. Also know as Sunakai-shima, the island is split into two, the northern and less fragmented half of the island belonging to the City of Kazeshima, and the southern section belonging to Shahai Prefecture. The easternmost bay on the southern side of the island is called Windferry Bay, or Fengchuanwan, as the only boats that could pass under the relatively low bridge linking the fragmented sections of the island together were the boats belonging to Windferry.
Politics and Government
Nansei-Gunto was part of the Commonwealth of Epsilon, and it had been headed by Prime Minister Airplaneguy9 since 24 March 2021. He took over from mi_aquamarine, who had been Governor since 29 March 2020.
Nansei-Gunto was one of the regions part of the Commonwealth of Epsilon. Three out of nine cities fall under 'Region of Nansei-Gunto' in the CoE's town list. The region, as such, followed the laws of the Commonwealth.
Not all cities follow the CoE - New Singapore does not even align towards a republic. The region's ruling party is listed as 'Mixed' in the official list of states.
Military
Nansei-Gunto's military was mostly headquartered in Shenghua, the former capital. The navy was headquarted in Kazeshima.
Demographics
Nansei-Gunto was spilt into four different provinces, with a total population of 362,173 as of 29 October 2021. A consensus took place on the 29th of every month, except for February, which was done on the 28th regardless of leap year status to keep consistency.

Economy
Nansei-Gunto had a strong and stable capitalist-based economy, with a total budget of around MRT$5,2bil as of April 2021.
The region announced its turnover of MRT$20mil at the end of December 2020. Financial results were announced on 29 March, with a growth rate of 160% from the previous year.

Transportation
Road
While there were not a lot of intercity roads in the region, there were plans to build the A63 expressway connecting Shahai with Wenyanga via Shenghua and Akiko Bay. It was approved and started construction on August 9, 2020. Wenyanga, Kazeshima, and Akiko Bay all drive on the left-hand side of the road, while Shenghua and Shahai drive on the right.
Rail
FLR Corporation operated the majority of rail transport in the region. Kazeshima, Shenghua, and New Singapore have local rail service, and there were plans for a 'Nansei Shinkansen' to link up the islands. Metrorail will also operate a line in the region.
Sea
On April 15, 2021, Airplaneguy9 announced the formation of Nansei Cruise Lines (NCL), which offers cruises within and outside the region. Because of the many cruise companies founded the week afterwards, Wenyanga, and by extension Nansei-Gunto, became the busiest sites for these ships, sparking many changes within the region. This included a renovation of many ports in the region. Nansei-Gunto contains the largest cruise market in the world, ahead of Itavanga.
Hummingbird Boat Lines serve the original three islands. Kazeshima also has Windferry service between the mainland and the Far Islets, and between every single city in the region, including Rizalburg.
HydroLime connects New Singapore, St Helena and Shahai to Miu Wan.
Air
One could reach the region through heliports in Kazeshima and Wenyanga, and through seaplane ports in Kazeshima, Shenghua, and Wenyanga. Each planned airport in the region would be owned by the Ukubhabha Airports Company. The region was raising funds for a state-owned regional airline called 'Air Gunto'.
Kazeshima is the hub for turbula.co.lu (previously FlyLumeva Turbula). Domestic flights around Nansei-Gunto to Wenyanga to Shenghua were flown by KazeAir using turbula planes.
Media
The Epsilia, one of the Epsilonian Republic's largest newspapers, is based in Kazeshima with its characteristic building, and many newspaper dispensers can be found around the region. An additional office is also under construction in New Singapore.
Television
The Nansei-Gunto Broadcasting Association was the main public television organization in Nansei-Gunto. It consisted of state-owned telecommunications corporation TeleNansei along with municipal broadcasters, which jointly operated Channel 6. Most stations in the region were based in Shenghua and Shahai, thus the dominant language in television is Chinese, however the Shenghua Broadcasting Corporation operated stations in English, Japanese, and Spanish. Channel 6 broadcasts in English.
