Public moderator nomination system
The public moderator nomination system, often shortened to moderator nominations or mod noms, is the current system in use in identifying and promoting potential Moderators. The system replace the former system where nominations and promotions were done during the private portions of staff meetings. The procedure was in place in October 2020 following Modgate included sweeping policy and procedure changes.
As of August 2023, at General Staff Meetings, MRT staff review submissions and feedback and vote on each candidate in one of three ways: For, Neutral, or Against. If a candidate receives a 51% majority of 'For' votes, and the candidate does not receive three or more 'Against' votes or 21% 'Against' votes (whichever is greater), then the candidate will be promoted to Moderator in most cases. However, in the exceptional case where the candidate has received enough 'For' votes but has a significant number of 'Against' votes, the Owner may choose to veto the candidate as their promotion may be too divisive.
The first batch occurred at the November 2020 GSM, with daltdisneyland and kyyl_ being the first two promoted through the system. Six moderators are the most moderators promoted in one batch under this system, which occurred at the August 2021 GSM. While minor changes have occurred to the system, including the percentage of "for" votes necessary to be promoted, the system has stayed generally the same.
