Rapid Communications is a subsidiary company of Rapid Enterprises. The company has its headquarters in Watchfield A8 Serena West/Watchfield and uses the parent company’s slogan "We power what’s under the hood of the Rednet”. Rapid Communications is a RSP (Rednet Service Provider) and its services will include rednet connection services, cloud services (for instance website, mail and cloud storage hosting), data carrying/IP-transit, private VPNs over the Rednet, Rednet Exchange Point operation, server hosting and colocation. The first service going to be available is the Rednet Connection Service (aka. Rednet Service Provider service).
Background and Company Goal
In the dimension called the earth, there is something called the Internet. How it works is a complicated story and there is a lot of infrastructure involved which many people don’t know about. Every time you visit this page the data travels through many kilometers of fibre cable (sometimes to the other side of the world) and through several internet exchange points and carriers (ISPs) to reach its destination. So many are involved to achieve this and many people don’t even know about this huge, and so important, infrastructure needed to power today’s society (and your desire to read this page). Rapid Communications (together with Rapid Enterprises and Rapid Networks) strives to replicate (parts of) this Internet infrastructure on the MRT (in the Gamma world) to make the server more modern and realistic.
Rednet Connection
Unlike mobile operators Rapid Communications does not provide any “On-The-Go” Rednet. Instead the company focuses on providing fast and reliable Rednet connections with unlimited data. This is achieved by static Rednet connections and investing in a good fibre and radiolink network.
Currently Rapid Communications offers Rednet connections through the brand “Highnet” in two ways, fibre and radiolink. The bandwidth (speed) is measured in ticks per second (tps). Currently Rapid Communications offers full duplex connections of up to 1Gtps for individuals (only available through Fibre) and up to 10Gtps for companies and organizations (only available through Fibre).
Planned Connection Plans
(all plans include unlimited data and you only pay a one-time fee)
Rednet through Fibre:
- 2 Mtps: 9$ (+ 3$ for construction cost)
- 10/2 Mtps: 25$
- 100 Mtps: 35$
- 250/100 Mtps: 47$
- 500/100 Mtps: 60$
- 1 Gtps: 95$
- 10 Gtps: 150$ (only available to companies and organizations)
Rednet through Radiolink:
- Up to 20 Mtps: 27$
- Up to 80 Mtps: 37$
- Up to 800 Mtps: 95$ (only available to companies and organizations)
Current Areas Covered
Currently the Rapid Communications data network is constructed by Rapid Networks. The network will be used to provide the Rednet Connection Service, as well as other services including data carrying/IP-transit. When the first construction stage is completed the network will cover the area around Watchfield A8 Serena West/Watchfield (and Whitechapel). The network is planned to expand in the north-west of the Gamma World, as well as a branch to the south-west. The CEO the_blockmaster has said that the network will possibly expand to other areas in the future.
Rapid Communications will initially host a datacenter in Watchfield from where its services will be provided. For instance the cloud services, server hosting and colocation will be provided from here. The datacenter will also host equipment related to the Rednet Connection Service such as DNS-servers.
Other Services
Rapid Communications is planning to offer its other services soon after the initial network has been constructed and the first datacenter is built.
DISCLAIMER
The services provided by Rapid Communications are only available on the MRT and are imaginable. The Rednet Connection and other equipment don’t actually work. Therefore, the services require some imagination from the user.
