The rules of TacoBurritoAThon are binding to all participants and spectators.

General Rules

TacoBurritoAThon shall be played as a series of events between two teams, Team Taco and Team Bacon. At around the starting time of each TacoBurritoAThon, a roll call shall be taken of players who would like to participate in the events. Each team must have at least two members, and participants shall be split as equally as possible between the two teams. Participants must be a member of the MRT server. The Commissioner is not allowed to participate in any event.

There shall be 5-7 events played at each TacoBurritoAThon. American football, athletics/marathon, spleef, sumotori, and swimming are mandatory for each TacoBurritoAThon; up to two demonstration events may be played as well. All events must be held on the same day consecutively unless a special exemption is granted by the Office of the Commissioner in the event of an emergency.

The goal for each team shall be to win as many events as possible. The team that wins the most events shall be crowned the Champions and be awarded the prize pool, which shall be split equally between the members of the winning team. In the event a tie in event wins occurs, the team which won the Marathon shall be crowned champions.

Unless otherwise specified, participants in all events must be in survival gamemode. They may carry at the very least a stack of steak or cooked porkchops. The participants must be in /speed 1 and may not have any status effects, including Night Vision.

Participants must adhere to the following code of conduct:

  • They may not interfere with any events which they are not participating in.
  • They may not use anything to gain an unfair advantage, including but not limited to staff powers, /speed, status effects, hacks, and x-ray texture packs.
  • They must be sportsmanlike and may not insult other players.
  • They may not complain excessively and disruptively about officiating decisions.
  • They may not attempt to bribe officials for advantages in the games.
  • They must follow all instructions given by the Commissioner, the Host, and any Staff member.

Participants who do not follow these rules may be disciplined, which may include disqualification from a singular event or the entire TacoBurritoAThon, forfeiture of the right to potentially get the prize pool, and in extreme cases a ban from participating in future TacoBurritoAThons.

The ultimate authority over all operational, logistical, and officiating decisions is the Commissioner. The Commissioner is allowed to make any decisions to ensure the smooth running of TacoBurritoAThon.

American football

In american football, each team shall have at least two players. All players shall be in survival mode. The game must be played on a standard MAFL field unless a waiver is granted.

Before the game, a coin toss using Random.org shall be conducted between the two teams. Taco shall call the toss at odd numbered TacoBurritoAThons and Bacon at even numbered ones. The winner may either:

  • Choose whether to do the first round first or not.
  • Choose the end zone to use.
  • Defer to the other team.

TacoBurritoAThon uses a revised Kansas playoff system. There are five rounds. In each round, the team shall start at the 15-yard line. One player shall be designated the quarterback, the other the receiver. The quarterback shall be given a bow with one spectral arrow. The bow shall be enchanted with Infinity. The goal shall be for the receiver to enter the end zone and then to be hit by an arrow fired by the quarterback. There is no defense and the other team must watch from outside the field of play. Play start is called by the announcer. The receiver must also start from the 15-yard line and then run to the end zone. The quarterback may move laterally on the 15-yard line however he may not move forward or backward from the line. In addition, the receiver may not stop to allow the quarterback to hit him; he must be moving in order for a play to be counted. The receiver must also be moving laterally within the end zone for a play to be counted.

The other team may defend as well. They may have two defenders on the field. The goal of the defenders is to try to block or otherwise distract the quarterback from hitting the receiver. The defenders start from the 10-yard line and may move once the receiver moves from the 15-yard line. Punching is not allowed from either the defenders or the receivers, but shoving the receiver without punching is allowed. The defenders may not try to sack the quarterback or otherwise directly hit or make contact with the quarterback. Doing so will result in a 5-yard penalty and a retry.

The team with the most successful touchdowns after 5 rounds wins. If after 5 rounds the two teams are tied, sudden death shall occur in which rounds will continuously be played until one team makes a touchdown and the other does not.

Marathon

The marathon shall be played on a track consisting of roads within a city. The marathon track shall not be standardized.

The goal of the marathon is to finish in first. The team affiliated with the player who finishes in first will win the Marathon. Players will start at a start line behind a fence of some kind directly next to it. A countdown will be done to start; after the countdown, the fence must be moved out of the way either by a WorldEdit or by a piston mechanism. Once the fence is removed, the marathon officially begins.

During the marathon, players must remain on the road. Shortcuts may not be taken through parks or sidewalks. The route shall be barricaded off with fences of some kind and markers with the TacoBurritoAThon logo and an arrow of some kind shall guide the players. Players must be in survival mode in /speed 1 with no status effects. The only things that may be in their inventory are a uniform and a stack of steak or cooked porkchops.

The finish line shall have a tripwire trigger which triggers a firework.

Spleef

Spleef shall be played between two teams of 2 or 3 members each. The two teams must have the same amount of members. One spleef match shall be played which shall be a best of 3; i.e., the team must score 2 points in order to win. A point is scored when all of the members of a team are “spleefed” (fell through the snow floor into the water); the surviving team is awarded a point.

MLS rules shall apply to the spleef with the exception of the number of members of each team and how many points must be scored in order to win.

Swimming

Swimming shall be played in a pool of some kind. The swimming shall consist as a relay; each team shall be given one lane. On one end of each lane shall be a dispenser filled with a firework of the team color with a button attached to it; on the other shall be a redstone lamp with a switch attached to it.

Teams shall start from the end with the firework dispenser. Each team shall have no less than two members and no more than four; they must have the same amount of members participating in this event. Before the start of the swimming, team members shall line up single-file behind their lane.

The event shall begin following a countdown in Minecraft chat by an official. The first member of each team shall upon the end of the countdown jump into the water and begin their lap. A full lap shall consist of going to the end of the lane, toggling the redstone lamp, turning around and then toggling the dispenser. The switch must only be touched for the checkpoint to count; it does not have to necessarily be on or off following the toggling.

Players may choose to either sprint-swim or traditionally swim (i.e., walking through the water as done before 1.13). Tridents may not be used to assist the player in swimming. Players must be in survival gamemode with no active status effect, /speed 1, and nothing in their inventory other than a team uniform and a stack of steaks or cooked porkchops.

Once the first team member’s lap has ended, the second team member shall jump in. The first team member must get out of the water in a timely fashion. This shall continue until all team members have taken a lap. The first team to have all of their members finish a lap shall win the event.

Sumotori

The games themselves shall be played on a standard 7x7 MRTSA floor and shall be played under MRTSA rules with a few changes. Matches shall be a best-of-5 (i.e., the first player to score 3 points wins) rather than having 8-9 rounds; the exception shall be the final match, which will be best-of-7 (first player to score 4 points wins). A match which ends in a knockout shall be awarded to the winning player with the player automatically getting the amount of points that they would otherwise need to win the game.

Sumotori shall be done as a single-elimination tournament. Each team shall have a bracket between its individual members; the winner of each team bracket advances to the finals. The team of the person who wins the finals shall be awarded sumotori.

Waiver for Participants

All participants must fully read and agree to the following waiver:

The following is an agreement between you, the player, and the Commissioner of TacoBurritoAThon (Commissioner), Skelezomperman.
I agree that:

  • I will allow myself to be put on either team or asked to play any sport.
  • I will not excessively or disruptively complain about any officiating decisions made.
  • I will not interfere with matches that I do not participate in.
  • I will play fairly without the use of anything that would give me an unfair advantage, including but not limited to hacks, /speed, effects, and staff powers.
  • I will follow any and all instructions given to me by the Commissioner, the Host Name of Host, and any MRT Staff members.
  • I will be sportsmanlike and avoid being disrespectful to other players, officials, and others.
  • I will respect all of the rules of the events and all officiating decisions.

If I fail to follow any of these, I may be disciplined, which may include disqualification from a singular event or the entire TacoBurritoAThon, forfeiture of the right to potentially get the prize pool, and in extreme cases a ban from participating in future TacoBurritoAThons.

Participants are required to sign a book containing this agreement in order to be allowed to participate in TacoBurritoAThon.

Ice hockey

Ice hockey shall be played on a hockey rink of some kind. The hockey rink shall have dimensions similar to a real life NHL hockey rink, with identical markings. In ice hockey, each team shall have at least one skater plus a goaltender. The “puck” for a match of ice hockey shall be a mob of some kind which can be hit either with a knockback stick or with the player’s open hand.

A match of ice hockey shall have ten minutes of game time, divided into two five minute long halves. The game clock shall start once the puck is spawned into the center, i.e., when it is dropped. The game clock shall not stop once it is started except for a timeout by the officials or by a team. Each team may call a timeout once per game.

The objective of the game of hockey shall be to punch the mob into the opposing team’s goal. Each goal shall count as one point. The team with the most points shall win the match.

In the event that a match is completed with the two teams tied, a two minute long sudden death overtime period shall begin in which the next goal shall win the game. If the overtime period does not produce a winner, then a shootout will occur in which each team will get three chances to have a skater attempt to score a goal 1v1 against the goaltender. If the three rounds still do not produce a winner, then rounds shall proceed in sudden death until a winner is determined.

If a player enters the offensive zone before the puck, this shall be an offsides. If a player hits the puck from their defensive zone to the opposite end of the rink outside of the trapezoid, then an icing shall occur. In either of these situations, play shall be stopped and a faceoff shall be started at the closest faceoff circle.

Hitting another skater is allowed in most cases. However, if hitting results in the skater’s death, a penalty shall be assessed. It is also not allowed to hit the goaltender out of the goaltender area; if a goal is scored because the goaltender is interfered with, it shall not count and play will be restarted at the nearest faceoff circle to where the shot was taken.

A penalty may be assessed by taking a skater off one team and having them sit in the penalty box for one minute at the discretion of officials. In extreme cases, a penalty may also result in a penalty shot for the opposing team, in which one skater will have an opportunity to shoot the puck 1v1 against the goaltender.

Bobsledding

Bobsledding shall take place on a sledding track in which two members of each team compete by riding a boat down the track. The goal is to finish the track as fast as possible.

Each team shall have two attempts, both of which shall be timed. Each attempt shall begin after a countdown by an official. The fastest attempt from each team is taken and the team with the faster attempt will win.

Waiver for Spectators

By spectating any event organized by the Office of the Commissioner of TacoBurritoAThon, you (the Spectator) implicitly agree to the following:

  • I (the spectator) will not interfere with or disrupt any event.
  • I will not block the view of the Commissioner, the Host, any other officials, or broadcasters.
  • I will not provide assistance or an unfair advantage to any players or teams participating in the events.
  • I will not do anything that may cause immense amounts of lag such as spamming fireworks or spawning entities en masse.
  • I will avoid being disrespectful to players, officials, or others.
  • I will follow any and all instructions given to me by the Commissioner, the Host, and any MRT Staff members.
  • I will not violate MRT Rules within the spaces that TacoBurritoAThon takes place in, including the TacoBurritoAThon Discord server.

Failure to follow any of these may result in teleportation away from the venues which events are taking place in, removal from the TacoBurritoAThon Discord server, or in extreme cases a ban from spectating future TacoBurritoAThons.
