Pre-1789

San Francisco was inhabited by native indigenous peoples up until 1589, when Bahian colonists found the peninsula and named it Península de San Francisco (Saint Francis Peninsula). They ignored the island, however, founding Pueblo de San Ostend (Village of San Ostend). Shipping routes between Las Playas and San Ostend opened up, and for nearly 20 decades ships passed by the peninsula not giving the land any thought.

1789-present

Shipping trade company owner Jose Ronaldo realized the importance of a second port in between San Ostend and Las Playas, and he saw the Peninsula of San Francisco as a perfect place for the new port. He wanted to eradicate the indigenous people in the area for fresh land, as he saw them as an obstacle. He contacted the Ruffist Church of Bahia and they established a mission in the area, Misión Ruffist de la Península de San Francisco. The indigenous people were converted to Ruffism and the Mission made the people stay in the Mission, now a fledging village. The Port of San Francisco was established by Ronaldo in 1792 and ships began to stop there later that year. Ronaldo died in 1795. The Mission, now a town, dismissed it's Mission and renamed to just Ciudad de San Francisco. In 1801, Bratliend (now Calgary, Kanata) government officials saw the peninsula as rich in materials, so they invaded the city and renamed it into the City of San Francisco. The city joined the also Brietesh-controlled Dominion of Kanata. Under their new government San Franciscan citizens were taxed extensively and homelessness became a huge issue. On July 17th, 1866, the city and the rest of the Dominion's assets joined the newly founded Kanata. San Francisco has since grown into a booming city with the economy the 3rd highest in the country.
