Satellia (星谷, Hoshiya) is a Meridian state located north of New Grafton. It was founded on the 13th of October, 2022 as Territory No. 12. Its capital and largest city is Stillwater, located in the southern part of the region. During the era of it being an unincorporated territory, it was economically the poorest performing region in the entirety of Meridia. However, on the 23rd of October, 2022, it became a state of Meridia as per the October Senate Meeting.
Being separated from the rest of Meridia, Satellia has a character and culture that is uniquely distinct. Even though Satellians have been historically independent from the rest of the country, it sees Cape Cambridge's presence in the region positively, hoping that the cooperation would provide much needed economic aid and development.
Etymology
The name 'Satellia' comes from the word 'Satellite'. It was chosen due to its close proximity to Satellite Valley, a low lying area located around the mountains north of New Grafton which is a famous spot for stargazing.
Similarly, the Japanese name for Satellia (Hoshiya) also references this geographical feature. The name "Hoshiya" is a kanji compound of 星 (hoshi, "star"), and 谷 (ya, "valley"), which when combined together would mean "star valley".
History
Satellia was founded around an area that was roughly occupied by the town of Stillwater. It joined the republic on the 13th of October, 2022, when ReallyTuck realized Stillwater's close proximity to PaintedBlue's town of Cape Cambridge. PaintedBlue offered for the the town to be incorporated into his country, which was agreed upon by ReallyTuck. Later that day, the borders of what will be known as Satellia would be conceived, and it officially became part of Meridia as an unincorporated territory. It officially became a state of Meridia on the 23rd of October, 2022.
Geography
Satellia is located on a plains biome between two mountains that border the northern and southern parts of the region. Surrounding the eastern and western borders of Satellia are forests and swamps. Satellia's topography has a lot of hills, making it hard for the region to develop in such a large capacity in a short amount of time. The hilly topography of Satellia is fertile and suitable for agriculture, and its vast mountains also provide many deposits for precious minerals and ores.
Culture
Satellia's culture is uniquely distinct from the rest of Meridia, which can be seen in the lifestyle and architecture of the region. Satellians are known to be laid-back and easy-going people, which often is negatively labeled as being 'lazy' by people outside the region. Due to the region's ties with industrial manufacturing, Satellians are generally seen as resourceful and handy people, with many taking up mechanical repair jobs usually cheap for their quality of work.
Language
There are two official languages in Satellia, those being English and Japanese. The population of Satellia are generally bilingual, speaking both English and Japanese fluently, with some regions preferring either English or Japanese. Over the years however, English has become the preferred language over Japanese, due to foreign influences entering the region.
Economy
The region of Satellia has historically been an agriculture-based economy, growing mostly sustenance crops such as wheat, corn, and rice in order to feed the local population. However, after the discovery of precious raw minerals around the region, Satellia's economy transformed into an industrial one. Companies such as Shizuike Heavy Industries established themselves in the region to capitalize on the abundant mineral deposits for their manufacturing. The sudden economic change has transformed the town of Stillwater from a rural agricultural backwater into an industrial center. After becoming an official state in Meridia, Satellia has reached out to export it's goods to the international market and compete with the rest of the world in manufacturing.
