The Southport War was a deadly and complicated conflict fought initially between the Southport Imperium and the Republic of Zerez, and later between Southport and Pearl Coast. It was one of the deadliest conflicts in Southportian history.

Beginnings

The conflict began when Southport Intelligence discovered a thermonuclear device in Southportian waters during a routine military parade. Zerez’s forces later made landfall with the intentions of holding the town hostage until General Sigma called off the parade. The soldiers marching in the parade were forced into battle as heavy fire was exchanged between Zerez artillery and Southport’s tank crews. Several bombs were deployed around Southport. Most of which were diffused by SISA’s Elite Forces Demo Team but one managed to detonate causing severe damage to an intersection. The team was briefly held hostage but were later freed. The battle itself ended in a stalemate and the leader of Zerez offered to talk. As part of their agreement, Southport would continue to hold parades while Zerez would keep a battleship off the coast for peacekeeping. The conflict was all but over.

Southport Missile Crisis

A day after the Battle of the Parade, a Zerez battleship arrived on schedule, not for peace, but to continue the fight. When it became clear they intended to take nuclear action, all Southport forces responded to the threat. SISA sent a fleet of amphibious boats into Southport Harbor to take the ship. Despite leaving a dent in the bow, many of the boats were sunk. General Sigma sought help from King Knowmadius of Pearl Coast, the leader of a like minded regime, but he shrugged off the conflict as a “minor scuffle” that was “not Pearl Coast’s fight.”

Meantime, Southport tank troops clashed with Zerez in the streets. Southport was able to negotiate a trade deal with Pearl Coast and received one tank which allowed them to maintain control of a street. Zerez, however, was able to take the city hall. They carried out a massive sonic attack in the city center in an attempt to turn Southport’s citizens against Sigma, but a SISA Elite Forces Demo Team successfully destroyed the speaker tower. Around the same time, two Zerez drones slammed into the LocalCorp tower creating two large fires and killing several construction workers. Pearl Coast was forced to intervene and sent a S.I.S group to take control of the city center and the streets. Southport prepared a second amphibious run and special forces took the Zerez battleship.

Invasion of Southport

Negotiators began in the city center. Zerez demanded that the ship be kept in Southport waters but General Sigma remained infuriated at their treachery and unwarranted attack on a sovereign state. In that moment of uncertainty, S.I.S troops led by General Vadum forced the leadership of Southpot to make way for a new Pro-Pearl Coast government. They proceeded to invade the city. Many Southport troops were added to the ranks of the S.I.S. The rest, along with Southport’s leadership fled to the Southportian provinces of Ice Springs, New Ice Springs, Greenmount, Greenport and Base 26. The city of Southport was in chaos as Pro-Southport fighters clashed with S.I.S agents.

Attack on Pearl Coast

From an undisclosed location, General Sigma and the Southport government-in-exile planned to strike Pearl Coast in several key areas and bring the kingdom to its knees. The first act to be carried out was a truck bombing at a security checkpoint in the Elite District. The driver, an ex-SISA soldier and a Pearl Coast defector were killed along with several S.I.S. agents, who had attempted to arrest them for smuggling arms.

The next attack was a direct strike on the military base at the heart of the city by a squadron of SISA Elite Forces troops, an infantry team, and a tank crew. The strike intended to merely cause damage, rather than take the city. They were forced to pull out due to heavy casualties, including the tragic death of a young SISA cadet.

Operation Sandstorm

General Sigma mobilized all his remaining troops and led an amphibious invasion of Southport’s southern harbor. The troops faced heavy fire from Pearl Coast snipers but managed to force General Vadum to retreat. Southport was free at last.
