St. Helena is an island town founded by ModernArt and HarborRandom852. It is located near New Singapore and was apart of the Nansei-Gunto Region before its dissolution.

History

St. Helena was founded on May 16th 2020 by ModernArt. Soon after, HarborRandom852 became Deputy Mayor. St. Helena was a colony of Nansei-Gunto, Modern also claimed islands as St. Helena's dependencies. Their main aim for the island was to build a prison which would house prisoners from across the MRT. On Airplaneguy9's request, the prison changed its name to a gulag as according to Nansei-Gunto law, all prisons had to be called gulags.

Lore History

Early History

Most historical accounts state that the island was discovered by Wenyangan explorer Orio Iwao along with his crew of 2 ships in 1743. On the island, they found an abundance of sugar cane and strangely no locals. They then left after charting the island and gathering sugar cane. A few years later in 1748, a different Wenyangan crew claimed the island and named it St. Helena.

Wenyangan Period

The first settlement on the island was founded east of the modern town center, it was home to around 200 people. Most settlers were middle class people who wanted to start a new life for themselves. Several sugar cane plantations were created around the island as well as farms for other crops. A vineyard was founded in the 19th century as well. Throughout this period, the island remained a port of call for several ships traveling through the waters around it. In 1810, an observatory was built on the island.

In 1892, a large hurricane struck the island leaving the first settlement in ruins. Half of the population was killed and over 60% of the survivors left the island. The remaining settlers decided to create a new town that would later become the center of Today's St. Helena. A prison was also built in 1905 that would later be a prison for all convicts of the MRT.

War of Nansei Gunto

St.Helena was invaded by Kazeshiman forces in 1921 during the War of Nansei Gunto as well as several islands around it. A curfew was declared on the island as the economy suffered, sugar cane and other crops was taken forcefully to feed the main Kazeshiman population and many animal farms were desecrated and destroyed.

The Lake Gunto Nuclear incident in the 1940s was also felt by the people of St.Helena. The island was spared from nuclear bombings although ships carrying nuclear missiles passed near the island. In 1945, the war ended and St.Helena retuned to normality.

Post-War Era

Reconstruction of the island continued throughout the post-war era with tourism becoming one of the island's main industries. The prison industry remained but had decreased in importance and economic value. When the Region of Nansei-Gunto was formed, many people on the island were upset and rioted in 1968 causing a police standoff to the west of the island. In 1973, the then-president of Nansei-Gunto Layden Maroko gave the island more autonomy.

Deadbush also granted St. Helena a concession: Sudwest Township in 1974.

21st Century

Eventually, most towns in Nansei-Gunto joined the Republic of Epsilon, and Nansei-Gunto was given official region status. Expansion on the island continued rapidly as the island began to modernize. Although the prison industry and its importance dwindled, it still remains as a sign of St.Helena's past.
