Sylffe is a town owned by Melecie, and is part of the Nymphic Union. It was built as part of SimonScholar's Town Building Contest, placing fifth.

It is located in the Southern Sea, nearby towns such as Porton and Langedijk. It is inspired by the former, as well as island towns such as Itokani, Itavanga, and Kazeshima, as well as featuring minor inspiration from Southeast Asian cities and islands. It is divided into numerous small villages and islands, with Sylffe Island serving as the primary settlement of the archipelago.

History

Town Building Contest

The Nimme Lighthouse, one of the town's first landmarks

The town was founded on 8 April 2022, five days after the start of the Town-Building Contest from a spot chosen by Avaneesh2008. The spot was chosen due to it being an island location and a stony shore, which Melecie was interested in due to their lack of experience with island towns (having only built Thegame beforehand, as well as the challenging but interesting terrain of stony shores having the potential for unique towns.

Nimme Village started construction that day, with rough plans for the rest of the island being drawn out. It was decided that the town as a whole would take heavy inspiration from the newest Premier cities at the time, Porton and Itokani, due to their similar themes. Sylffe Water Taxi was founded early on, with the first building in the town being a port building for the taxi, as well as its first route going from Nimme to AtlantisGray's settlement Wake Island opening on the 10th.

After Nimme was finished, Melecie moved on to Tess Village. It leaned onto the Porton inspiration more, with pathways hanging off rocks and hills. The Tess Cathedral was this village's first build, with other builds, the Une Rock viewing point, and the Water Taxi connection being built soon after. Later developments in the town included Marble Cave connecting Nimme and Tess, which was one of the last builds in the town during the contest period.

After gaining Councillor thanks to Moj1014 and MC_Protocol, the town's development stalled and eventually stopped as they focused more on the Pixelcraft server and later work and duties in real life. This left Sylffe in an incomplete state for months, which it was judged on. It earned 33.5 points and landed on fifth place, with the voting moderators praising the unique feel of the town however criticizing the separation between the villages.

Post-Town Building Contest

Lur Village, the first village located out of Sylffe Island

Melecie returned to activity on the final days of June, building the Crow's Point landmark located north of Tess, as well as building Lantern Lake, which was initially planned as a beach, and finishing the rest of Tess. They then moved on to Shun which was to be built in a drastically different style as the previous two villages, with the first and most important build being the City in the Mountains, a multilevel village built into the cliff face.

The City never got finished before Melecie went into another period of inactivity due to a lack of inspiration, this time ending on the tail end of August. However, they didn't continue building Shun upon returning, instead focusing on a new village located offshore on a raised island. Named Lur, it took inspiration from floating villages and markets in Indonesia and Thailand, as well as Havilivili in Itavanga, the only floating villages in the server at that point. Due to their inconsistent activity, it wasn't finished until November.

Development in Shun resumed after Lur was finished, with the previously unfurnished rooms in the City in the Mountains being filled, as well as the construction of numerous landmarks, including the Sky Garden, composed of naturally-generating floating islands and unrealistic terrain that was turned into a park, and the Dragonfly Cove, located in the back side of Shun which lead to an abandoned mineshaft and the Axolotl Sanctuary.

While inspiration for builds in Shun ran out again, developments were instead made elsewhere in the ocean. Runell Island was built within the span of three days, and Salme Village was created next, serving as a port in the mainland and the first link the town had to places located outside of the Southern Sea.

Geography and architecture

Sylffe is an archipelago composed of numerous islands in the temperate Southern Sea. Much of eastern Sylffe is located in rocky islands and cliffs, while western Sylffe is a swampland. Sylffe Island itself is a stony shore island, as many of the neighboring islands, however a few islands are grassy such as Runell Island. Due to the mountainous and rough terrain in the east, roads only support pedestrian travel and tend to be steep at some points. Roads in a village are paved with deepslate, while paths connecting them are marked with granite. Terrain is gentler in the west, which uses cobblestone and gravel to pave its roads. Despite this, non-pedestrian roads are still a rarity due to the lack of motor vehicles in the area.

Many of the buildings and houses in Sylffe are constructed out of wood and various kinds of stones and terracotta. The materials used vary from village to village; as an example Nimme uses terracotta and wood as walls; buildings in Tess use terracotta, basalt, and diorite; and Salme primarily uses wood and deepslate in its buildings.

Lur is located around a shallow sandbar north of Sylffe Island. Due to this, the houses here are either fully supported by the seafloor, or floating and anchored to it. Many of the buildings here are built out of light wood with roofs of vibrant materials.
