The Mole 10: Deceit, Deception, & Doubt, known colloquially as The Mole 10, was the tenth and final season of The Mole. 29 players, one of whom was selected as the Mole, competed over 12 episodes for a possible pot of $16,550. The season occurred on April 25, 2020, April 26, 2020, and May 2, 2020.

During the finale, ArizTrad was revealed as the winner of $5,423 with a perfect quiz score against other finalist Echohue and megascatterbomb was revealed to be the Mole.

Production

The season was announced on the MRT Discord and on the MRT Wiki at the same time on April 8, 2020. Applications opened on April 11, 2020. The Doodle poll that went along with the application slated the season to occur in late April to early May. On April 18, 2020, the first two sessions were announced to occur on April 25, 2020, and April 26, 2020. On April 28, 2020, the final date was announced as May 2, 2020.

The logo of the season was made by RacCort and was revealed on April 20, 2020.

At its peak, a total of 34 applicants agreed to be on the cast – the largest in any season of The Mole.

For the first time, when a player earned a second exemption during an episode, they had to give it away to another player.

Set

This season's set, Mole Isle

The season took place at Mole Isle, an island in the Zeta region of the New World found by chiefbozx. The isle has a Mediterranean vibe, with a large Colosseum-style build on a tall rock in the center of the island, surrounded by tall, thin, stone walls. The island features a variety of custom birch trees and a lighthouse. MinecraftYoshi26 revealed that the original design of the 'Mole Manor' this season was going to be a Greek city with a polis serving as the elimination area. It was originally going to be built on a mountainous island near the Aquidneck Islands.

To find the island, MinecraftYoshi26 released an image that involved a "Great Search"-like challenge that involved the prior Mole Manors, an episode of Meggy Live, and a PVP arena. There was a $250 prize for the solvers, which were 0x10, Cookie46910, daltdisneyland, Echohue, godzilltrain, hvt2011, KittyCat11231, lil_shadow59, PtldKnight, RacCort, and Valkorion314. Once it was solved, the location of the island was revealed to the public. Mole Isle was served by temporary service on Line 34, the Molucella Line, of Hummingbird Boat Lines and is now permanently served by Line 51, the Florentina Line.

Format

During each episode, the players participate in a number of challenges, each assigned a monetary value. If the players, as a team, complete the challenge, that money is added to the final prize for the game. However, one of these players has been selected by production to be the Mole; it is their job is to try to prevent the other players from winning challenges without revealing themselves to others. The Mole may be told ahead of time of how to do this or what challenges to expect, while at other times the Mole must decide whether to intervene or not.

At the end of each episode, the players take a quiz regarding the identity of the Mole and his or her involvement in the previous activities. The number of quiz questions varied per quiz. The player who scores the lowest on this quiz, or was slowest to answer in case of a tie, is eliminated from the game. The winner of the game is the one that answers the most questions correctly on the final quiz given when there are only three players remaining (including the Mole), and is awarded the total amount of money won over the course of the game.

While success in the challenges is important in order to build up potential winnings, it is also critical to stay in the game by scoring better than opponents on the quiz, usually by attempting to draw their suspicions of the Mole's identity toward oneself. Since the Mole must use subterfuge to misdirect attention from their attempts to derail the team, disingenuous attempts to emulate the Mole must be subtle, while still noticeable and suspicious.

Cast

The cast of The Mole 10

The cast of The Mole 10: Deceit, Deception, & Doubt consisted of 29 players. Seshpenguin and Soleurs signed up to participate but did not show up at the season premiere and were removed from the cast before the season started.

Premier Rendezvous: All players were taken to the Premier warps in Central Park. Players were given a stack of steak, a stack of minecarts, a stack of diamonds, and a stack of boats and were told they each were to choose a Premier warp to take. They could discuss as a group where to go and how many go to whatever choice of location, without knowing the challenge. Once all players were teleported and in survival, they were given 20 minutes to all meet up in one location. If they were all able to meet up in one location, they would win $400 for the pot.

After separating into 16 out of the 19 of the Premier cities, all but lil_shadow59 made their way to Central Park within the time, resulting in $0 being added to the pot.

Archaic Arithmetic: The players were taken to the Central City Library with a board. The board had blanks which were to be filled in with numbers. Above and below each number was a set of clues leading to various locations around Central City. Information found at the locations would be used by the players to compute several numbers. If all of the answers were entered correctly, the team added $500 to the pot. The team had 20 minutes to complete the task. The players had one guess. If incorrect, the incorrect numbers would be highlighted and they would have one more chance to fix them. The correct numbers were 11-23-58-132-134-5589-1442. The problems included:

  • Divide the number of acacia seats in the Central City Performance Center by the number of redstone torches on the western and eastern walls inside the theater (660 / 60 = 11)
  • At the Central City Bus Station, multiply the route number of the Eastern Airways Shuttle Bus that goes to UCWTIA by the route number of the UTC bus that goes to Utopia. Then, subtract the line number of the LTA Bus that goes to Harry S Truman International Airport. ([8 * 3] - 1 = 23)
  • Multiply the number of cashiers, enderchests, spruce stairs, and redstone lamps inside the Falloway Finance inside the Fairfax Street Mall, then add 10 ([2 * 2 * 3 * 4] + 10 = 58)
  • Multiply the numbers on the billboard in southern Central City (11 * 4 * 3 = 132)
  • Multiply the number of gates at the Central City Heliport by the number of signs that read “Welcome To Central City Heliport”, then add 30 ([26 * 4] + 30 = 134)
  • Multiply the number of snow blocks that make up the pitch in Admod Park by the number of visible command blocks, then subtract 177 ([961 * 6) - 177 = 5589)
  • Multiply the number of words, not numbers, on the seven signs (beginning 'to' and ending 'checks') in front of the receptionist at the Feline Holdings building by the floor # of Catronics and the floor # of Feline PAC, then add the floor # of Assorted Companies ([60 * 4 * 6] + 2 = 1442)

The numbers in the sequence were actually the digits in the Fibonacci sequence with the spaces squidged up. After the first guess, their answer was correct and the group added $500 to the pot.

Craft, Build, Replicate: All players were taken to JS28, where players found a single building. Players were given 20 minutes to rebuild the house by crafting and breaking blocks within a 300 block radius of the station. They could not edit the example structure. The example structure was a 9 by 9 plot. To gain money, players had to perfectly replicate these requirements: exterior for $100, structure for $200, and interior decoration for $300.

At the end of the time, the birch signs from the mine that were necessary for completing the exterior and the interior decorations had mysteriously disappeared. Thus, they only earned $200 for the structure.

The Councillor Challenge: While still at the prior challenge, after the results of the prior challenge were read, the players were told they were to use their tools and the resources they collected in the prior challenge to create a Councillor town within 18 minutes.

After getting inspected by two non-competing staff members, if it is approved and meets all the requirements, then the group earns $750.

godzilltrain and Frumple judged their town and both gave their endorsement for Councillor and added $750 to the pot.

Fugitive Pursuit: Players were told to choose the two sneakiest people. Those two people were the two fugitives that all other players had to catch. The fugitives had to travel from one destination in Deadbush to another within 18 minutes. If one of them were able to make their way to the destination within the time limit in survival without being caught, each, regardless of getting caught, would gain an exemption. While the hunters started at Centro Plaza and were in a separate mumble channel, there was a secret traitor among the hunters who was allowed to secretly message the fugitives updates regarding the hunters' tactics and also use Dynmap. If one of the fugitives successfully made their way to their destination, the secret traitor would also gain an exemption. If the hunters were able to catch both of the fugitives, they would add $300 to the pot. The starting destination was the Blackwater District Mayor’s Office, while their target destination was Borderville District Library.

_Kastle and mine_man_ were selected as the sneakiest players and chose KittyCat11231 as their traitor. After a few minutes, they were caught and $300 was added to the pot and no exemptions were given out.

Transport Travels: Teams were taken to the Cadigal Opera House in Deadbush. From there, the players were told to divide themselves into four teams of near equal players per team. The teams players had to split into included ones who liked to travel by air, water, road, or train. Each team could only use certain methods of transportation to all make their way to Whitechapel's BART Stadium. The air team could only use airplanes or helicopters, the water team could only use provided boats or any other watercraft, the road teams could only use provided minecarts for uCars or busses, and the train team could only use provided minecarts for rail or warp trains. For every team that showed up within 20 minutes, $100 would be added to the pot. If all players met there within the allotted time, they would receive an additional $200. All players could not use Dynmap; however, they could use the MRT Wiki.

While teams arrived in a timely manner, the last team to arrive, the road team, cut it close as Skelezomperman made it into the middle of the stadium with a little over 30 seconds to go, adding $600 to the pot.

Ladders of Success: The players were taken to Cayuga Vista in the Sheepshead District of Whitechapel. There, seven apples were hidden throughout the Sheepshead District, each worth $100 for the pot if found and returned.

There were seven multiple choice brain teasers, with each answer corresponding with coordinates, with one of the coordinates being the location of an apple. Players would have to run to those locations to pick up an apple and bring it back. Only three players can leave Cayuga Vista at a time, with only one person per riddle. The time limit for the challenge was controlled by three individuals who had to stay on a hanging set of ladders. Every time an apple was found, the ladder's length would get smaller. When halfway through the time was over, both ladder people were offered exemptions. The challenge ended when all three fell off the ladders or 30 minutes had elapsed.

They assigned mine_man_, megascatterbomb, and RacCort for the people on the ladder. After 15 minutes elapsed, five apples were chosen and megascatterbomb had fallen. After being offered the exemption, both mine_man_ and RacCort dropped off and ended the challenge, adding $500 to the pot.

Teamwork Exemption: The group must unanimously decide who will be given an exemption in this episode. If they do that, $400 will be added to the pot. However, if they can not reach an agreement, $200 will be taken out of the pot. They had 10 minutes.

After much debate and stubbornness, the challenge was ended before the time was up after everyone concluded that no consensus was reached on who received the exemption.

Shoot Your Shot: The players arrived at Anthro Island and chose one person to be the archer and one person to be the leader. The rest of the players were presented with questions about Anthro Island. They then had to search around Anthro Island for answers to these detailed questions. The answer would then be relayed to the leader, who would give the final answer. Both the leader and the archer had to stay at the archery club. If a question was correct, the archer would receive an arrow to try to shoot a target. If the center red wool block was hit, $150 was added to the pot. With a total of six possible targets, $900 was the total maximum amount possible. For every incorrect answer to a question, $50 was taken away from the pot as a penalty. Questions could be passed by the leader; however, once they are passed, the players cannot go back to them. The game ended when either all 15 questions were used, all targets were hit, 20 minutes pass, or the game was voluntarily ended by the leader at any time.

Valkorion314 was selected as the leader while KittyCat11231 was selected as the one with the bow. While answering all but one question right, KittyCat11231 hit four out of the possible six targets and added $600 to the pot.

Majority Raffle: The players made their way to The Wave Theatre and were told tasks that the majority of them had to do for adding money to the pot. In each round, all players would privately vote if they would or would not get a ticket in a raffle; however, they could discuss before voting privately. If a majority of players elected not to do it, they would gain the money allotted per question. All the raffles would occur at the end regardless of whether it was a majority or not. The people who voted in the majority were revealed after each vote. There were a total possible earnings of $1,200. The raffles and winners were:

  • A ticket in a raffle for $10 for yourself - $50 (daltdisneyland)
  • A ticket in a raffle for $100 for yourself - $100 (ArizTrad)
  • A ticket in a raffle for +1 on your quiz score - $150 (wipeout111)
  • A ticket out of a raffle for -1 on your quiz score - $200 (RacCort)
  • A ticket in a raffle for an exemption - $300 (Valkorion314)
  • A ticket in a raffle for an exemption and one for a friend - $400 (wipeout111 [Echohue])

Only the first two had a majority not participating, resulting in only $150 being added to the pot.

Only Connect: Only Connect is a game show where players must either find the connection between four seemingly random clues or find the fourth clue in the sequence. Based on the timing of the guess (on which clue), the more or less money would be added to the pot, starting from $100 going down to $25. The players must work together to solve the connections to gain money for the pot. There would be ten questions, with the first five tasking the players to find the connection and the last five tasking them to find the last in the sequence. Each question had a different team captain chosen by the prior team captain. The team captain would ask for a next clue and submit the group’s answer, regardless of agreement from the rest of the team. Each question allowed for two guesses and two minutes were allotted per question. For every clue they asked further, it lost money.

The group ended up earning $300 from the ten questions.

Slow Staff: The remaining players were first told to choose two people who had the worst navigational skills. Those two were taken to Nihon Park in Konawa, while the rest of the players were taken to Lake Quins in Whiteley. To gain money for the pot, the players at Lake Quins would have to dive into the lake to find heads in shulker boxes that would correctly answer a set of trivia questions about the general MRT. When done, they locked in their answer by ringing a bell. The time limit was determined by the two selected players with the worst navigational skills, as their goal was to step foot in Whiteley. If either of the two people could step foot in Whiteley before the rest of the group locked in their answers, they would each gain an exemption and no money would be won. If the answers were locked in time, then $75 would be added to the pot for every correct answer.

Selfless vs. Selfish: The players were asked to first choose one person who they trust the least. Then, the rest split into two groups: four selfless people and four selfish people. Then, each selfish person was told to team up with a selfless person. Then, those teams would face off against each other by punching each other off of a log over a chasm in Kessler. If a selfish player won, $150 was added to the pot. If the selfless player won, they would win a chance at an exemption through a raffle for one exemption. The person who was still on by the end won. If both people fell off, the round would be redone. The selfish players would also start on the higher end of the log, to give them a height advantage against the selfless players.

mine_man_ was voted as being the least trustworthy. At the end of the match-ups, Echohue was the only one that added money to the pot, while RacCort won the exemption.

Redd Herring: Two players are chosen as having an eye for design. Their test was to create a piece of artwork that mirrors that of others by lalaboy at the Kessler Cathedral. While in creative mode, they had to make a faux build in 10 minutes. After completing the piece, the others were brought in to see if they could spot their work and distinguish it from the authentic pieces. If they fail to fool them and they choose the correct piece, $400 will be added to the pot. If they picked the wrong piece, no money would be added to the pot and each of them would gain an exemption.

daltdisneyland and Echohue were selected and successfully fooled the group, adding no money to the pot.

Colorless Caricatures: The rest of the players are each given three names of different people. They must build something so that the two people selected who have an eye at design can correctly identify. For each correctly identified person, $250 was added to the pot. They were only allowed a grayscale color palette of blocks to build and could not build any letters or numbers. The people that the builders were given were Neil Armstrong, Billie Eilish, and Charles Darwin.

daltdisneyland and Echohue were able to identify all of the builds and added $750 to the pot.

Twist of Fate: Between episodes, the elimination from last episode was revealed to be fake. The person who sat out of the "Selfish vs. Selfless" challenge, mine_man_, was announced as eliminated; however, he was actually not eliminated and did not have the worst quiz score. He was given the task to correctly identify who actually would have been eliminated. Out of the other five non-exempt people, he had to correctly identify the person who should have been eliminated. If he did so, he would add $200 to the pot and the person would be eliminated. If he incorrectly identified the person, their identity would remain a secret, no one would be eliminated, and no money would be added to the pot.

mine_man_ chose KittyCat11231. It was revealed that KittyCat11231 was not going to be eliminated in the prior episode, resulting in no money being added to the pot and no one being eliminated.

Second Chance Still Life: The group is told to select one person who is a chatterbox, a people person, a person who likes to smell the flowers, and one person who likes living it large. The chatterbox is shown three paintings and tells the other three a description of each painting. Each of them built a representation of each painting in-game. The person who was a chatterbox is given one minute to describe the paintings, and the people who are building are given an additional seven minutes after the chatterbox describes them. The rest of the players are shown a bunch of other paintings and must match the paintings in 10 minutes. They must spot all three correctly to win the challenge. If successful, the group earns $500.

KittyCat11231 was selected as the chatterbox, daltdisneyland was selected as the person who likes to smell flowers, Echohue was selected the one who likes living it large, and megascatterbomb was selected as a people person. The group was able to guess all correctly, adding $500 to the pot.

Temptation Auction: The eight players were asked to bid on certain items. They bid in public chat against each other from a group pot. For each of the items that were to be sold, the minimum was $5 and the bids would have to be in increments of $5. Bidding for each item was not compulsory. Players were not allowed to withdraw their bids, after which the items would be sold to the highest bidder.

The group pot money was $800, which they could spend at the auction in whatever way they please; however, whatever money would be left at the end would be added to the pot. The auction would end either when there were no more items for sale or there was no more money to be added to the pot. With the addition of the auctioning of money, the total possible earned would be $1,000.

The items that were up for auction and the buyers were:

  • $105 for the balance - Valkorion314 ($10)
  • An exemption for a friend - megascatterbomb ($10)
  • $300 for yourself - wipeout111 ($115)
  • Councillor town that was built in "The Councillor Challenge" - Valkorion314 ($65)
  • Mystery prize (revealed at the end): Poisonous potato - RacCort ($135)
  • $105 for the balance - mine_man_ ($5)
  • Mystery prize (revealed at the end): +1 on your quiz - daltdisneyland ($215)
  • An exemption for yourself - megascatterbomb ($455)

The Weakest Link: The players were taken to Marblegate and are welcomed with The Weakest Link and had to work as a team to try and win as much money as possible. The players stood in a chain and answered trivia questions. If a person answers the question correctly, the next stage in the chain is reached. If a person answers the question wrong, the money is lost and the chain starts again. A player can "bank" before their question to save the money, but the chain must be started again. If there are nine correct answers in a row without anyone banking, the maximum money amount is added to the jackpot and game ends. Only money banked in each round can be taken forward in the game. The time allowed for each round decreases as the game goes on. At the end of each round, the players must vote for who they thought was the "Weakest Link" in the round that just occurred, and the person with the most votes is eliminated. If the vote comes to a tie, then there is a revote. If the revote comes to a tie again, then both players are eliminated. After the final round, a head-to-head contest is played, with five questions asked to each player in turn. If there is a draw, the game continues to sudden death. The loser goes home with nothing. The winner gets an exemption. If $1,000 is banked before the end of the game, the game ends immediately and no exemption is rewarded.

By the end of the game, $330 was added to the pot and daltdisneyland and Valkorion314 were the final two. Valkorion314 won in the final round and won an exemption.

All For One: The players were taken to a quartz room, and were locked inside. Across from them was a smaller glass room with a warp sign and a button, and would open when all but one player could step on the pressure plates.

The player who could enter the room could either press the button to leave the room or to gain an exemption. After each person left, shortly after, they would receive an armor stand to fill the empty spot of a person who left. If all of the players escaped before 15 minutes, $400 would be added to the pot. If no one leaves the room, $200 is taken from the pot.

The group allowed Valkorion314 to leave the room first to avoid the penalty and opted to end the challenge, adding no money to the pot, but losing no money from the pot.

Double Teamwork Exemption: The group must unanimously decide two people who will be given an exemption in this episode. If they do that, $400 will be added to the pot. However, if they can not reach an agreement, $400 will be taken out of the pot. They had 10 minutes.

After small disagreements, the group chose to end the challenge only a few minutes into the challenge and $400 was taken out of the pot.

Shopping Spree: The remaining players were told to, within 17 minutes, spend exactly $900, in order to win $500 for the group pot. To make this rather transparent task more challenging, numerous rules were put in place: the players couldn't use it for buying items that would not be completed when the time is over, they were not to spend more than $300 on anything, and they mustn't waste or give away any of the money. If any of the rules were broken, then the money that was spent was taken from the pot at the end.

The group ended up using $630 out of the $900. After counting penalties by RacCort and megascatterbomb, $372 was taken out of the pot as the calculated penalty.

The Gambler: Each of the five players were told that they were given a chance to add $1,000 to the pot. They each were given 1000 chips, with each chip representing $0.20 taken from the group pot, for a total of $1,000 from the pot. The team had 18 minutes to play Texas hold 'em against Frumple, with 20 chip ante for each hand, with a 10 chip small blind. Frumple had 3750 chips representing $750. Each player could step out of the game and take their chips with them. The amount of chips at the end of the time would be added to the pot. However, if net money was lost, it was deducted from the pot.

The group ended with a net gain of 946 chips, equaling $189.20, which was rounded up to $190 added to the pot.

Trading Places: The players were taken to Wazamawazi and were told to split into two groups. Each group would head into a different hall inside Grandma Henny's Grand Theatre. In each room was a 7 by 9 platform of a fake set. The goal was to, in creative, rebuild the other groups' set where their current set is, using only descriptions from the other team. For each set that was built correctly, $400 was added to the pot. The group had 25 minutes to complete this task.

The group opted to recreate one set to have a higher chance of receiving $400. They ended up building one correctly after megascatterbomb corrected a last minute error in the glass panes.

The Long & Winding Roads: The three remaining players are asked personal and revealing questions about each other. One by one, a diamond is hidden in a chest. The two other players are asked the same questions, and must try to match the answers given by the hidden player. After each response, the two players go either left or right in a fork in the road. If they answer all three questions correctly, they will successfully guide themselves through the village and find the hidden diamonds. If they make just one wrong answer, they will go down the wrong fork in the road and will not find the diamonds. Each correct path earned them $300. This took place in San Reinoldi starting at the Piazza Bologna.

No money was added to the pot as no paths were followed perfectly.

Race To The Dossier: Starting at the Piazza Bologna, all players were separated and had to race around the server to follow clues to reach the finish. The first one to the finish, at Grandma Henny's Grand Theatre in Wazamawazi, would have the option of viewing the Mole’s Dossier or adding a final $475 to the pot. Players were allowed to skip clues if they know where they are going and if they noticed that there was a pattern in the locations - the cities and locations in prior episodes.

Although megascatterbomb was the first to arrive in Wazamawazi, Echohue arrived first at the theater and decided to take the dossier over the money and added $0 to the final pot.
