In Thunderbird boundaries, the TTC is using its regular system for its automation on 5 of its train lines. One of its train lines uses SmartRail technology.

Ferry Routes
These routes are planned for the future, probably at least one route will be operational by mid- or late 2019 - Thunderbird still needs to increase in size.

These rail lines serve (or are planning) to serve Thunderbird.
Platform # | Route name/# | Destination | Status |
---|---|---|---|
1-2 | KTA Commuter Rail - Armadillo Line | Nippia (Northbound) Saint Roux (Southbound) |
Partially open: Service to Saint Roux only. |

Fun fact: The Scarborough RT line is also a real Toronto Transit Commission line! The line number of that is 3; however, it will soon be replaced by a subway.
TTC Automated Metro System Versions
Version 2.0
Older stations utilize this simple automated version of the TTC. The system includes a dispenser capacity indicator and a system that prevents the dispenser from working when a cart is present in the station.
Versions 3.0, 3.1
This version of the TTC is an enhancement of version 2.0; it includes all the features of v. 2.0 but also addresses the issue of possible dispenser spamming; it has a separate comparator circuit in which it activates when the pressure plate is triggered by a customer and must be given a few seconds before allowing the dispenser to function again. This is indicated by the "Ready to dispense" light. This system is also used in the ConnectEAST station bays (such as the Scarborough RT).
Version 3.1 also has a waiting bay prior to entering a station to prevent trains from colliding; this also helps accommodate more customers safely. Version 3.1 is more noticeable on some stations south and west of F16 Thunderbird West station.
Version 4.0, 4.1
Along with all the features of V.3.1, V.4.0 and 4.1 are designed to accommodate more riders at once. A maximum of 2 carts can be called at one time with a short intermission between pressure plate activations. TTC V.4.0 includes 2 arrival bays in the station and, in V4.1, a waiting bay in the tunnel or on the elevated track immediately approaching the station (refer to above image of V3.1).
The pressure plate to call carts is in the middle of the platform, directly in front of the dispenser indicator light. If the light is on, the dispenser is ready to dispense. If the light is off, you must wait either for the arrival bays to clear or for an arriving cart to enter the station (this is to prevent a cart from the dispenser colliding with an arriving cart).
