Tokaido Shinkansen

The Tokaido Shinkansen is a high-speed express Line aiming to connect the southeastern towns of the New World to Central City. Currently, only the Bearainstein Branch Line has been constructed connecting Bearainstein Station to Hyde Park Station. The full line will start from Bearainstein, and will have a branch line to Bronte in future. The line is planned to connect various towns over time.

The line is conceived by MervRail and will be the first major Railway Line to be operated by the corporation.

History

Upon mervynang's entrance into the server, the Tokaido Shinkansen has been conceived as an intercity link connecting a new city in the South-East of the server and Central City. The line was also meant to have lesser stops than other lines that link the region to Central City, such as the MRT Plains Line.

The route was originally planned to start from MervRail-Silent Plains Station where a new town will be built by mervynang. However, due to a period of his absence from the server, the area has been claimed by Awsomekeldeo. Since then, the line has been extended to Bearainstein. The line's terminus in towns near Central City were considered over time, including stations along the stretch between P2-V2 and P5-V5. After much negotiation and discussion, it was then decided to construct the line's terminus at Station P2-V2, which would then be the closest link to Central City as a result.

However, with the early July 2017 General Staff Meeting, it was decided that the a Third-Party Rail Terminus would be constructed West of Central City. As a result, the line was re-planned and being prepared to have its route move towards the terminal at Central City, making the link between the Central Area of the server to the South-eastern Region more vital, convenient and accessible.

The section between Bearainstein and MervRail-Silent Plains was completed in May 2017, and All-Stop Local Kamoshika/Semi-Express Hakucho Tracks to Tranquil Forest Central was completed in June 2017. Express Asakaze tracks have just crossed the mountainous terrain south-west of Tranquil Forest. Test Runs have been constantly conducted on completed track, while citizens of towns and cities along the completed section of tracks can board the All-Stop Local Trains between any of the 3 stations.

It was also decided in June 2017 that Express Services will no longer call at MervRail-Silent Plains, as rail traffic diverts to the new Silent Plains Central, which will see lesser passengers using the Tokaido Shinkansen to get to Bearainstein as well as local towns surrounding the area.

During July 2017, Kamoshika Local Service tracks are being constructed west of Tranquil Forest Central. Due to roads on the west of the station, difficulties include the tunneling of the route deeper after entering the tunnel. During this time, newer methods of construction were used, such as having wider track layouts and changing the overhead catenary from wood fences to stone materials.

On 2nd October 2017, Station P36-ES22 was officially named Hyde Park Station, coinciding the completion of work on track level for the line's progress into the station

On 19th October 2018, it was decided that the line will be used as a branch line to the new line that will be running from the Centre of the MRT Server to Bronte and towards the far east of the server, given the extension of territories further east of Bearainstein and Central City's Private Railway Terminus being a Warp Rail-exclusive project.

During mervynang's return to the server on 19th October 2021, exactly 3 years after the previous decision was made, MervRail has decided that it will continue to extend the line westward as originally planned, although with no definite terminus planned. Currently, an agreement to stop by East of Schusterlans Town Centre is planned and will be constructed over time. There are still plans to construct services towards Bronte, although it will not be designated as the main line.

Services

As there is a quadruple set of tracks planned for the entire line, 2 sets of track will be dedicated for use of both Kamoshika (Local) and Asakaze (Express) Services each. Hakucho (Semi-Express) Services will utilise and switch between both sets of tracks during their runs. Since apart from Hakucho (Semi-Express) Trains, each service has their own track, there is no need for Kamoshika Service trains to wait for Asakaze or Hakucho trains to pass-by them before resuming their journeys.

Asakaze Express Services : These will be the fastest services on the line, with plans for trains to stopover at only 2 stations between each termini. They will operate at an average frequency of 5 minutes during peak hours and 12-15 minutes during non-peak hours.

Hakucho Semi-Express Services : These services will be the 2nd fastest services on the line, with alternating stops at intermediate stations along the way. However, these trains will stop at at least 4 stations during the journey, some services with more. They will operate at an average frequency of 15 minutes during Peak Hours and 30 minutes during non-peak hours. Hakucho Services will be the only services which require Asakaze Services to overtake them before resuming their journeys, should these services utilise Express Tracks thereafter. Some morning/late night runs will not see the train travelling the full route.

Kamoshika All-Stop/Local Services : These services will be the slowest services on the line, making stopovers at all stations. Most services will not travel the full route but terminate at intermediate stations where most Hakucho or Asakaze Services will pullover at, such as at Pieville. Most Local Service trains that do not make the full run on the line originates/terminates at Central Station. There are hourly Kamoshika runs between Bearainstein and Central City throughout the day, though trains will begin their first outgoing trip from Bearainstein. They will operate at an average frequency of 15 minutes during Peak Hours and 30 minutes during Non-Peak Hours. These services are catered for passengers travelling between smaller towns along the route, such as V27-C46 Station, which is a interchange station to V28 City.

Future Plans

The section between Tranquil Forest Central and Hyde Park is currently into completion. Track work and Stations are expected to be completed in end 2021.

Currently, the extension from Hyde Park to Schusterlans East on the MRT Circle Line has been approved. There are plans to form a branch line to connect Bronte with Schusterlans East. This will connect to the mainline coming from Bearainstein. The extension is likely to be completed by mid-2022 and will connect the MRT Plains and Eastern Line with the Circle Line via railway.

The Bronte Branch Line will only commence construction when the tracks between Hyde Park and Schusterlans East are being built. This is expected to happen after 2022.

There is a possibility that the line will be extended from Bearainstein eastwards, as the express tracks lead to another siding past the train depot. MervRail is also considering extending local tracks of the line slightly northward to connect to the MRT Plains Line, acting as a shuttle. This will be confirmed in due time.
