The flag of Tokyo

Tokyo (東京) is a Japanese city located in the northwestern plains of the New World. It's mayor is Megafro and the deputy mayor is Echohue.

History

The city began in June 2019 when Megafro became a member on the server after months of just snooping around and exploring, and after traveling on rails for many hours, decided to settle down in the far Northwestern corner of the new world plains for a space less dense than that of the area surrounding the Central City.

The first building ever built was the Shinjuku Mitsui building, after a quick construction of the platform, Megafro decided that the Mitsui building will be the City Hall, and being new and kinda uncomfortable asking for W/E's yet, decided to built the massive skyscraper completely by hand, only asking to stack the floor interiors over a year later.

Then the work on Ginza began, it first started off with very narrow roads, then was W/E'd to move both city blocks apart to expand the road and be more life-like.

Still lacking building experience, the first buildings in Tokyo lacked detail and looked completely different than the real life counterparts that they were based on, but as the years passed and the city expanded, Megafro gained building experience to be able to replicate buildings with good accuracy, and way better quality, making the first built area of the city a sort of disappointing and ugly, but historic area that shows the improvement over the years.

Architecture

Tokyo's architecture is based on the real-life counterparts built 1:1 scale and detail that can be seen on Google Maps and Street View. Some buildings might be recognizable from anime or other artworks based on Japanese cities.

Tokyo's architecture includes everything from old historic temples, to modern monolithic skyscrapers that tower above the city.

Districts

Currently, Tokyo has three districts. The first one of them is based on Ginza(銀座), Tokyo. It is the district where the city began. It features a massive skyscraper built on an elevated platform, based on the Shinjuku Mitsui Building, which acts as the official city hall of Tokyo on the server. Also featuring the iconic Seiko building, and many more 1:1 scale buildings from Ginza, with wide roads and many brand stores it is the main go-to shopping district in the city.

The second district is a pedestrian friendly, riverside neighborhood called the "Cozy District" (居心地の良い地区), containing dozens of different restaurants with both Japanese and foreign cuisine, coffee shops, izakayas (居酒屋), and small private houses, all separated by countless hidden alleyways. It is a quiet and relaxing spot for when you need to take a break and unwind from the hustle and bustle of the busier parts of the city. The eastern side of the district is inspired and based on Aresnixc's art called "Riverside", while the western part is based on real life Tokyo.

The third district that expands north from the Cozy District, is a quiet residential district consisting of dense small to medium-sized buildings ranging from art schools and businesses to small apartment buildings, with private houses mixed around the smaller winding roads leading off of the main street, it is based on an area in Shinjuku.

Future projects

The main and biggest project for the city since it's dawn is building the Tokyo Station area and the Imperial Palace. Work has officially begun on a singleplayer world, and it will be the defining 'landmark' of Tokyo thanks to it's massive scale and significance. Possibly stretching out as far as the Hibiya Park area incorporating the government buildings surrounding the park, it will be a time consuming project to get the 1:1 scale of the area just right.

The Tokyo Station railways will stretch out into the country side, and possibly other cities after a decision will be made whom it should be connected to first, possibly to partner cities.

New planned and ongoing projects as of August 2023:

Ginza Expansion plan:

Started in July 2023, major expansion began in the Ginza district of Tokyo. Being the heart of the city and where it all started, it is important to put in effort to make the district significant in scale, detail and beauty. The older buildings currently do not live up to standard of the rest of the city, but retain historical value, and so existing buildings are now being remastered just an interesction away from existing 2019 buildings.

River-side residential district project:

Expanding east from the small neighborhoods north of the river, new mid to high-rise apartment buildings will be built accompanied by small businesses, stores, and shopping streets.

Countryside and villages:

Possibly following the construction or completion of the Tokyo Station, there are plans to build large countryside area containing rice fields, small sleepy villages with railways from Tokyo station passing by in the area, with some small local stops being constructed as a way to commute to the city and back.
