Campaign Announcement Address

Hello everyone,

I am excited to announce that I will be campaigning for the role of Secretary of State for the upcoming term in the United Cities. To assume the role of Secretary of State, one must be fair in their dealing with arbitration situations in order to provide the best solution; I consider myself to be a very fair person, and harbor no resentment towards any single person or sub-organization within the United Cities, and feel like I would be more than capable of filling this role. However, more importantly, I am asking for your vote because I feel like I can work with other officers to be part of a solution to a problem that exists in the United Cities, which is the fact that, until recently, the United Cities seemed to be "slowing to a stop". While I believe that there are several ways to revitalize the United Cities, most of these promises are those that only a Presidential candidate should make. As your Secretary of State, I will use my platform to conduct research and support other officers in their roles that will help to restore the United Cities as an organization to a state of activity and progress that will benefit the organization, as well as the server, in its entirety. While the Secretary of State is meant to be a role exclusively for arbitration, there has been minimal need for this in the past, and while I am ready and willing to take arbitration situations on if the need arises, I believe in an "All Hands on Deck" approach to fix the problem at hand, and no role should be sitting around and waiting for a specific task to come up when they, as officers, can do more things to help better the United Cities as a whole.

A specific event that raises concern with me and other UC members is the recent exit of many members from the General Assembly. While this is their constitutional right (please know that I have no intention to try to make the process of entering or exiting the United Cities more difficult at any time) it should be alarming to us as an organization that we are failing to meet the needs of many members, as our main goal as an organization is to "foster diplomatic relations among cities, encourage cooperation among their mayors, forge unity among players, and increase the enjoyment people get out of the server." At the rate that people have been, and may continue to leave, it is important that we self-evaluate as an organization and reflect on how we could better meet the needs of members that feel like their needs have not been met, while simultaneously make choices as an organization that take steps in the direction of our major goals of making the server an enjoyable place to be on. I believe that the best way to do this is to take time to talk to members and how we could better represent them as officers and as an organization, and as an officer with arguably the least full plate, this is something that I can do in addition to any arbitration duties.

I would like to make a quick note about my activity: yes, I have not been able to be on as frequently as I would have liked recently due to a personal IRL event, in addition to school and a larger workload. The event is unsolved as of now, however there is little I can do to expedite it, but as more time passes I am finding it easier to find time to work on personal projects, whether it is music or being on the server. While I cannot guarantee a day-to-day activity level throughout my campaign and term, I will definitely be working to come on at least once every 2-3 days with the hopes of coming on more. Additionally, I have access to Discord nearly all the time on my phone and computer, which I frequently check throughout the day, so there is always a way to contact me.

Before I end this address, I would like to state one thing: last thing, many officers were elected by running on ideas of no change or reform and keeping the United Cities the way it was in order to maintain the progress and quality of the organization. I hope that this election, members will see that change is definitely needed to help us get back on the right track towards progress and the betterment of the server.

Thank you,

AyyLion

Q&A, September 26, 2017

The campaign hosted a Q&A session in game after concerns arose that not enough was known about the campaign to make a firm judgement on it. This statement was released following the session, which summarizes the information shared, but does not provide exact quotes given at the session.

"Hello members of the United Cities, I am campaigning to become your next Secretary of State to help be a part of a solution to problems seen lately in the United Cities. While the Secretary of State has been a historically small role, I believe that I can use it to help be a part of this change. The Department of State's main job is to arbitrate situations that do not involve the UC law. I will not waste time listing positive traits about myself. Instead, I believe that the Secretary of State should take advantage of its smaller role in the United Cities government and use its platform to conduct research and work with other officers to help better the United Cities, while still being available to help arbitrate situations should the need arise."

What compelled you to run in this election?

"I felt compelled to run in this election after seeing some disturbing trends in the previous term, most notably the exit of several members from the United Cities. While this is their constitutional right, I believe that we as an organization could do a better job at meeting members' needs, and I hope to use the role of Secretary of State to learn of how to best do this."

What are you aiming to do as Secretary of State that you cannot do as a member? Are you using this platform to push an agenda?

"As an officer, you have direct communication with roles such as the President, who can effectively carry out tasks through enacting resolutions and using executive action. I hope to use this link to establish more effective communication between officers and members, as the Secretary of State will have time to do this. While arbitration is important, we have not seen a need for it frequently, and coming into this election, I felt inspired to run for Secretary of State so that we would not have a Secretary of State that sat and waited for their specific task when there is work to be done in the United Cities. I guess you could say that I am going after the position to push an agenda, as my agenda is one of vigorous change in the UC.

What changes need to be made in the United Cities?

"I believe that General Assembly members need to have a stronger voice, and this can be accomplished by setting up more projects. This does two things; for one, it provides an outlet that reinstates activity and gives members power over something that hopefully compels them to stay in the organization, and two, it gives back slightly to the server, as it usually does something to benefit towns."

Campaign Event October 5, 2017

This campaign event was organized in order to bring more information about the campaign now that registration had come to an end. MBC News covered the event, making it the first to be attended by a news organization for the AyyLion campaign. Here is a short summary of what was discussed:

Endorsements

jphgolf4321 was endorsed for President, with _Kastle endorsed as a second choice. hvt2011 was endorsed for Vice President. mine_man_ was endorsed for Attorney General. KittyCat11231 was endorsed for Chief Justice.

Three Month Plan

The announcement of a Three Month Plan was confirmed for the following day, October 6. This plan was announced to contain specific information for AyyLion's term should he be elected.

Questions

After a question from BuildPilot regarding a statement made regarding "walkouts" of the UC, AyyLion clarified that he believed that while there may be no mass walkout planned for the future, many members are expressing sentiments made by those who left: that the UC is a lost cause. He believes in fighting this feeling by creating a liaison between members and officers through the polling data.

Participation in Debates

AyyLion confirmed intent to participate in debates should they fall at a convenient time. If attending a debate or town hall would be impossible, he will answer the questions presented in full at a convenient time.
