Hi, I'm mdbro55, and I live in New York City, which means that I know the MTA like the back of my hand. So, if you're coming to New York, use this page as your guide to how to get around NYC.

Arriving by Plane

JFK Airport

JFK is the most used of the 3 New York City Airports, so lets start there. When you arrive at JFK you have 3 options, taxi (Boring), bus, or AirTrain to the subway.

Rail from JFK

The AirTrain costs $2.75, and can take you to any of 4 subway lines, the A, the E, the J, and the Z(Z doesn't always run). The A goes from Far Rockaway(or Ozone Park)to Inwood, the northern most neighborhood in Manhattan. At just over 32 miles, it's the longest line in the system, and can take you to popular attractions like the 9/11 memorial and One World observatory(Chambers St), Washington Square Park(West 4th St-Washington Square), Madison Square Garden(34th St-Penn Station), Times Square(42nd St-PABT), Columbus Circle and Central Park(59th St-Columbus Circle), and the Apollo Theatre(125th St). If you're going from JFK, this is the line you want to take. Now keep in mind, JFK is far out in Queens, so it's about 45 minutes to Lower Manhattan on the A.

LaGuardia Airport

Laguardia is a smaller airport located on the Long Island Sound. Unfortunately, no trains service LGA, so, until they build the LaGuardia AirTrain(2020), your only options would be to take a taxi, or take one of the many buses that service LaGuardia, to the 7 train, whicjh will take you to Grand Central, Times Square, or Hudson Yards. You can also take the M60 Select Bus(BRT), which will take you only as far south as 106th St on the West Side. After that, you will have to take the 1 train from 103rd St to get any further south.

Newark-Liberty Airport

In my opinion, the best NYC airport, Newark Airport is probably where you will fly in if you take United. Now, Newark Airport is located in the largest city in New Jersey, Newark, so the only transport out would be the Newark AirTrain, to the New Jersey Transit station just outside the airport. You can take NJT northeast for 2 stops, to New York-Penn, which will cost you $13.00. That concludes the airport exit travel. More to come on this page!
