Minecartia, also known as the Minecartian Republic, is an island archipelago located in the northwestern Pacific Ocean. It is a unitary state that is centralized under one government. Minecartia sits on an archipelago also known as the Cambridge Islands, with the largest island, Great Cambridge Island, having an area of about 230,000 square kilometers, making it the seventh largest island in the world by area. Minecartia is one of the only places in the world which had its settlement recorded, as when it was discovered by Europeans in 1779 it was uninhabited. The country has a very diverse array of flora and fauna.

As aformentioned, the country was discovered in 1779 by Europeans. It was a British penal colony until it violently broke away in 1842 after a short one-half-year long independence war. It pursued an isolationist policy until the 1940s when it was invaded by Japan and fought a very brutal war to drive the Japanese off the island. It was a minor player in the Cold War, being the home of American military bases. Although most of Minecartia's population today is of European descent, ever-growing numbers of immigrants enter the country, and it is estimated that about 30% is of Asian descent. In the streets of such cities as Spawn City and Robin's Hill, languages like Mandarin and Tagalog are often heard in addition to the customary English of the country.

Minecartia today is a developed nation in the Pacific Ocean. It is one of ten countries to have confirmed possession of nuclear weapons, and is a member of the G21. Its economy persistently is derived from mining exports, especially of gem minerals.

Etymology

The islands were originally named the Cambridge Islands when discovered by Captain James Cook, in honor of the Duke of Cambridge who later became King George II. In 1840 however when the nation began an open rebellion against Britain, political cartoons in London often mocked the decision of Britain to act against the rebellion by calling the islands a "Minecart Rapid Transit" - saying that they were useless and that it would run out of its mineral supplies quickly (something which has yet to occur). However, the people of the islands took the name "Minecartia" because it was a funny name and a cool one.

History

The Cambridge Islands, as a remote Pacific island, was one of the final pieces of land discovered and landed on by humans. It is estimated that had Europeans not settled on the island, Polynesians probably would have reached it by the year 2100 and settled on it. It was not until the winter of 1778-79 when Captain James Cook of the Royal Navy used the islands as a safe harbor during the winter, landing in the area that is now Arlington Bay and creating the first human settlement on the Cambridge Islands, Arlington. Cook would later leave to set sail for the Sandwich Islands, which is where he was killed by Native Hawaiians. The Royal Navy would return in 1785 in which the entire island was mapped out under the guidance of surveyor Arnold Kingston, who later would become the namesake of an island which is part of the archipelago. Settlement did not increase until after the Napoleonic Wars, when huge waves of settlers from around the British Isles were enticed with promises of new lands, founding several cities inland such as Inchmuir, founded by a Scots-Irish community, and Robin's Hill, founded by a Londoner community.

However, in the 1830s Britain increasingly became hostile towards the colonial population, and on October 31, 1840, a meeting between representatives from several communities in Robin's Hill signed a Declaration of Independence. British troops were immediately sent to crush the rebellion, however after resounding defeats in Chuno and Owasso the Treaty of Washington was signed on July 13, 1842 to quickly end the war. News did not reach the Cambridge Islands until August, at which point the Minecartian Republic was declared, with the capital being Robin's Hill. For the next few decades Minecartia would prosper as a nation built on exports of minerals, although there was little to no industrial progress until the 1890s. Although it was isolated, Minecartia was one of the few nations to take a side in the American Civil War, in which the Union side was supported with key shipments of supplies being sent to defend California. After that there were several decades of peace and industrial growth, with the country being one of the few nations to be neutral during World War I. During the Roaring Twenties, Minecartia moved its capital to a planned city near the Arlington-Harbourfront port complex, Spawn City, which almost immediately had a large migration to it, especially during the Great Depression when the mining industry was hit hard.

Suddenly, on December 7, 1941, Japanese forces bombed the Minecartian naval base at the Atlantis islands. War was immediately declared, and in March of 1942, a large army of Japanese soldiers landed near Hollis Swamps. The Japanese quickly advanced through Spawn City and capturing it, but not before the government was evacuated to the original capital of Robin's Hill. They continued to pursue them east through the Bluemont jungles (which was able to be traversed easily due to a tunnel having been built to connect Spawn City and Bluemont just before the war started), however it stalled about 20 km south of Bloomington. Trench warfare began and lasted for an entire year until American forces performed a landing in Miningstone in July 1943 and were able to encircle the Japanese and force them to surrender. Minecartia then entered the rebuilding era with a future ahead of it, as it was one of the 52 original members of the United Nations and a signer of the Treaty of San Francisco which formally ended World War II. Afterwards another economic boom occurred during the Cold War, as Minecartia, although a participant in the Korean War, did not participate in the Vietnam War. Industry exploded and the country became a hub for finance in the Pacific as well as some electronics, though it was overshadowed by Japan. In addition, infrastructure was revolutionized with the joint building of the InterMap Highway System and the Minecart Rapid Transit system, allowing for mass transport of goods.

Finally, the modern era of the 21st century was entered with some fanfare. Minecartia was a participant in both the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, although it pulled out of Iraq after 2007. A tragedy would occur though when on September 22, 2013, a shooting occurred at the Admod Building in Spawn City, in which 12 people were killed and many more wounded, although fortunately there were no elected governmental officials shot, with the perpetrator being tracked down as U. U. Giggi, a former Senator who was later exposed to be a conspiracy theorist and wanted to overthrow the government. Giggi is still wanted by the government and his hiding place is not known. In addition, on January 2, 2015, hackers broke into Minecartian governmental systems in the wee hours of the morning and stole several crucial informations, however they were quickly shut down and tracked down to Australia, with the perpetrators still unknown. Infamously, at 9:52 AM on October 16, 2015, a truck bombing occurred at Fairfax, causing about 200 to immediately die. Services went almost into a standstill, and at 11:27 AM, IntraAir Flight 12 crashed after being shot down with executive authorization from Prime Minister Tom Pairs after turning around over the Pacific Ocean without any communication with the ground, with it later determined to have been hijacked in an attempt to be a copycat of 9/11 and hit a target in Spawn City. It was later determined to be an organized attack inspired by ISIS, and Minecartian forces immediately set sail to the Mediterranean to exact revenge, with the events of 10/16 leaving a scar on the nation forever.

Environment

Minecartia sits on the Cambridge Islands, which are located in the North-central Pacific Ocean. They were formed by the Cambridge Hotspot, and have several active volcanoes, though none of them have erupted since 1872. However, the danger remains, with the country still prepared for an eruption at any time of the year. The largest island, Great Cambridge Island, is the 7th largest island in the world. The other major islands are Kitania Island and Delvin Island. Areas near the coast have an oceanic climate with large amounts of rain, however the climate does differ, with the Eisitasi Highlands receiving snow and the insulated Eastern Triangle receiving little rain. Normally the temperature goes from the range of 10-15 degrees Celsius in the winter to 20-25 degrees Celsius in the summer, although again it differs in some areas.
