Vakasuka International Airport (VIA) is an airport located on the island of Vakasuka that serves the town of Itokani. It is owned by McYoshi26 and was constructed by McYoshi26 and Mojang1014.
History
Prior to the town getting Governor, MinecraftYoshi26 asked Echohue if he was interested in building the airport, due to his skills in building Sunshine Coast Máspalmas International Airport. He was offered $1,000 to build the airport. During the construction delay of the island of Waitui, the island was officially claimed on September 8, 2020.
The construction proposal was sent to staff on September 17, 2020, following the completion of Waitui. The proposal was approved on September 22, 2020, and construction began a day later.
Following Modgate which resulted in the inactivity of MinecraftYoshi26 and Echohue, the island the airport was on was reverted to a field filled with flowers.
Mojang1014 came to MinecraftYoshi26 with a proposal to build the airport on February 21, 2022. Mojang1014 was appointed the constructor of the airport five days later, being paid $2,000 to build the airport with construction beginning that night. The airport's shell takes inspiration from Mactan-Cebu International Airport Terminal 2 in Lapu-Lapu City, Philippines.
On March 6, 2022, the terraformed front of the airport and Vakatasu Bridge connecting the airport's island to Waitui was pasted in from construction on single-player, constructed by MinecraftYoshi26. A few days later, the stone seawalls and nature on the perimeter of the airport were pasted in. The surrounding flora includes flowering azalea trees, palm trees, and two large winding trees, similar to the ones at the front of the airport.
Mojang1014 completed his commissioned job of the main construction of the airport on April 8, 2022, and was paid $2,000. Following this, McYoshi26 took over completing the final construction and changes to gate size and terminal decorations, among many other details.
The airport was declared as completed on April 17, 2022, approximately 19 months after the initial claiming, when an in-game map of the island was made. The first gate given out was to Elecna Airlines with flight EL102 to Elecna Bay. Later in the day, McYoshi26 sent a message in the MRT Discord regarding gate requests, where airline owners could request a gate. He emphasized the unique destination policy and compiled numerous gate requests from various airline companies.
All planes were made active on May 5, 2022, when Segville Air made their flight to Segville International active.
Gates and destinations
Vakasuka International Airport prioritizes having unique destinations per plane and prohibits duplicate destinations. Each plane has a maximum of one destination. Closer destinations are preferred for helicopter gate occupants. Airlines who want to change or add destinations to their planes or helicopters must first get approval from the airport operator.
Vakasuka International Airport has four medium gates, four small gates, and four helicopter gates. As of September 2022, the gates and flights at the airport are:
