The MRTvision Screenshot Contest 6 is the ongoing sixth edition of the MRTvision Screenshot Contest. The contest is the original MRT Screenshot Contest with Eurovision style voting and representation. The ceremony is planned to place in the city of Arcadia, following lil_shadow59's win at the fifth contest with the screenshot "15 Million Tons of Economic Power". The contest debuted on March 1, 2020. The slogan is Hub For Inspiration. The winner is tentatively set to be revealed at on May 9, 2020 at an 11 a.m. PDT and the Champion's Bowl. There is planned to be an official MBS livestream for both the semi-final and final ceremonies.
As of April 10, 2020, 42 cities have confirmed their intentions to participate in the contest and 13 of those cities have made a submission.
The contest was teased on the MRT Discord on February 19, 2020 with an incomplete image of the logo, missing the word 'ARCADIA' and the MRTvision Screenshot Contest logo. The contest, with its logo, was officially announced on February 26, 2020. The logo is an edited version of an online image edited by MinecraftYoshi26. The official slogan of the contest was announced approximately two hours later.
The contest's results ceremony is set to take place for the second time in Arcadia, following Arcadia's victory in the previous edition with the screenshot "15 Million Tons of Economic Power", taken by lil_shadow59. The most recent time the city hosted the contest was for the fifth contest.
It is set to take place at Arcadia's 2,688-seat amphitheater the Champion's Bowl, which was constructed in 2020 for the contest. Located in the east side of the town, it is a large, open-air, outdoor amphitheater. The amphitheater is based off of the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California. It is close to the MRT Southern Line at SE20. The venue was announced on March 3, 2020.
Per usual, the contest will feature members representing cities, each submitting a screenshot to be voted on by the participants and the willing public. Each city and willing non-participants award a set of 12, 10, 8–1 points to their 10 favorite screenshots, respectively. Each participant will be required to vote in their semi-final, or may face disqualification, being banned from participating in future contests, or paying a fine. Per usual, there was no theme.
The deadline to join was announced as March 20, 2020. The deadline to send in a screenshot was announced as March 25, 2020. After the semi-final reveal ceremony, the draw order will be selected for the final and voting opened for the final near the end of the ceremony. The winner will be able to influence the slogan for the next contest, choose the next host city, and receive $3,000. Second place will receive $2,000. Third place will receive $1,000. All competitors will receive $15 as a participatory stipend for voting. The top 10 will be featured on the website.
Beginning in this contest the method of breaking ties changed. In ties for any placement, the submission that received points from the most different voters get the higher placement. If there is a tie within that, the submission with more 12 points gets the higher placement. If there is a tie in that, then it goes to the submission with more 10 points, all the way down to 1 point. If the cities have the same point breakdown, the later in the draw order is given the higher placement.
Semi-final allocation draw
The occurrence of semi-finals was dependent on the number of participants. On April 9, 2019, it was confirmed that there would be two semi-finals after the number of entries reached 37. As the prior winner, Arcadia would automatically qualify for the final and vote in both semi-finals. The top 10 in the semi-finals advance to the final. The top 10 screenshots from each semi-final advance to the final.
For the second time, there will be pots created for semi-final allocations drawings. The semi-finalists will be allocated into five or six pots, based on aggregate rankings by participant, not by city, from prior contest data. Drawing from different pots helps to reduce the chance of lopsided semi-finals by predicted placement from prior contests. The semi-finals are set to be drawn after joining closes, during an informal ceremony on Mumble. Arcadia's draw number for the final will also be selected during the ceremony.
Postponement of the contest
When the contest was announced, there was concern about OptiFine and shaders not being available for the contest as it had not been updated for Minecraft 1.15.2 yet. On March 6, 2020, a poll was put in the events channel in the MRT Discord regarding the future of the contest with four options available: to continue the contest as is and allow shaders and renders, to continue the contest as a "no shaders and renders" contest (Foresne had already submitted a screenshot and thus would have had to retract it), to postpone the contest until OptiFine updates for shaders, and none of the above. The next day, with the poll results showing 19 votes for postponing the contest, compared to the eight votes for the second and third options, respectively, the contest was postponed on March 7, 2020. Joining and submitting screenshots closed and is set to re-open once OptiFine updates for shader compatibility. Participants who join prior to the announcement kept their participatory status and would be asked to reconfirmation of their participation when joining re-opened.
Prior to the postponement, the following were the dates listed for deadlines and events: joining closing on March 20, 2020, submissions closing on March 25, 2020, the voting period for the semi-finals as March 25, 2020 to April 3, 2020, the semi-finals on April 4, 2020, the voting period for the finals as April 4, 2020 to April 17, 2020, and the final on April 18, 2020.
On March 26, 2020, an OptiFine build with working shaders was released. On March 27, 2020, the contest's new dates were announced.
All of the screenshots are viewable together on a public Google Folder.
