This page contains records relevant to the operation of Auburn Academy's physical campuses and assets.

Access levels

All buildings are assigned an access level based on its use and contents.

  • Access level 1 (AL-1): public access without FoxCard (e.g., off-campus outreach spaces)
  • Access level 2 (AL-2): FoxCard access, including affiliates (e.g., most academic buildings)
  • Access level 3 (AL-3): student, faculty, and staff access only (e.g., residence halls)
  • Access level 4 (AL-4): restricted to specific population (e.g., specialised athletic facilities, laboratory buildings)

Room numbering

The Academy has adopted a uniform room numbering scheme to ensure consistency across buildings. Some larger or more complex buildings will require a custom numbering scheme, usually involving an additional prefix preceding the level number prefix that denotes the wing or section of the building (e.g., E114). Regardless of the scheme used, room numbers should always be applied logically, avoiding large distances between consecutive numbers or the placement of very different room numbers (e.g., 101 and 189) adjacent to one another.

  • All spaces receive a prefix based on the level of the building.
    • Building levels should be numbered from 1 onwards, with level 1 being the typical entry level.
    • A single level partially below grade should be generally be designated as level G, for 'grade'.
    • Acceptable names for a single basement level are level 0 or level B. For structures with multiple basement levels, numbering from A onwards (A, B, C, etc.), where level A is the first level below grade, is the preferred option, as it is more inviting than 'basement' or 'subbasement'.
    • Buildings should generally only have at most one mezzanine level, which is given the designation 'M'.
    • For buildings with multiple mezzanines, the level most closely associated with the mezzanine is added to the front (e.g., level 1M).
    • Roof spaces are given the prefix R.
    • Balconies and terraces are numbered by adding an R to the beginning of the associated room (e.g., R302).
    • Every effort should be made to consistently number levels for buildings connected by tunnels, or otherwise make the change in level number abundantly clear through signage.
  • All spaces also receive a two-digit reference.
    • For larger buildings that require a three-digit reference, all room numbers throughout the building should use three-digit references.
  • Non-assignable spaces receive a use designation. These are spaces that typically do not have a room number sign. They share a room number with the main adjacent room, with a use designation appended.
    • Corridors are designated as 'COR'.
    • Electrical or mechanical chases are designated as 'CHS'.
    • Areas open to above or below are designated as 'OTA', or 'OTB'
    • Unexcavated spaces are designated as 'UNX'
  • Spaces that have multiple areas of the same use receive a suffix (e.g., a room with two closets)
    • The suffix takes the form of a letter (A, B, C, etc.) if the preceding reference ends with a number.
    • The suffix takes the form of a number (1, 2, 3, etc.) if the preceding reference ends with a letter.

Some examples are listed in this table.

Prefix Number Use Suffix Full number
0 03 COR 003COR
4 24 A 424A
2 11 CHS 1 211CHS1
0 07 007
R 02 R02
5 33 A 533A
B 55 OTB B55OTB
  • Entries, stairs, lifts, and archways are numbered separately, with a prefix, use, and reference as defined above.
    • In buildings with multiple entrances, each entry door should be numbered with the designation 'ENT'.
      • Any associated entry vestibule receives the same number as the entry, but with the 'VES' designation.
    • The main stair or lift should always be stair 1, and the others numbered in a logical spatial manner.
    • Stairs are numbered 'STR1', 'STR2', etc.
    • Lifts are similarly numbered using 'LFT'.
    • Archways are designated with 'ARC'

Some examples are listed in this table.

Prefix Use Number Full number
1 ENT 2 1ENT2
1 VES 2 1VES2
2 LFT 4 2LFT4
3 STR 10 3STR10
0 ARC 1 0ARC1

Spaces index

This contains a list of all spaces in Auburn Academy buildings, grouped by building. As a more comprehensive database, this will replace Auburn Academy/Classrooms once complete.

Security levels for individual spaces are defined from A through E.

  • Security level A (SL-A): general access by those with access to the building (e.g., lobbies and atria)
  • Security level B (SL-B): accessible for most community members (e.g., standard classrooms)
  • Security level C (SL-C): accessible to a small subset of community members; no items of high value (e.g., standard offices)
  • Security level D (SL-D): spaces containing sensitive or expensive assets (e.g., laboratories, athletics/arts spaces)
  • Security level E (SL-E): highest security level; for spaces where unauthorised access poses a major financial or legal liability (e.g., biohazard laboratories, rare library collections)
