Baseball is a game created by samyankeesfan20 on April 5, 2020. Baseball is based off of the real-life American game of baseball.

Venue

Baseball needs to be played in a stadium that is either made for baseball, or can be altered to fit a baseball field in. The field must be decently large, or a smaller field can have a shorter redstone sequence. In terms of questions for equipping a stadium for baseball, contact samyankeesfan20.

Rules

Teams

Ideally, baseball is played with at least 2 members per team, with at most 3, and in a pinch, can be played 1v1, although it is quite difficult. If there are 5 people, one player can be an umpire, or automatic batter/fielder, but that is up to the discretion of the players. In a 4-person game, the player not currently batting can be trusted to umpire, so long as he does a fair job.

The Game

Like in real baseball, while one team is batting, the other is fielding. Each side only gets one out per half inning, and only one strike while you're batting, although there is no pitching, so the only way this happens is with a foul ball. There are nine innings, and whoever is winning after nine innings wins the game. If the score is tied, then the game can either go to extra innings, or the teams can mutually agree to tie.

Batting

A batter will use a bow enchanted with only flame; this is done to track where the ball is hit. The batter will start his at-bat by standing at the back of the batter's box, and walking forward to home plate. On home plate, there is a pressure plate that the batter will run towards. Once contacted, the batter may begin to draw his bow.

While drawing his bow, the batter may not aim his bow anywhere but dead center. In terms of left and right, he may only aim it at the pitcher's mound. For up and down movement, it varies based on stadium height. In Bandit Stadium, for example, you cannot aim higher than the top of the wall in center field; keep your aim on a straight line. In terms of policing this strategy, it is up to the umpire to determine what he wants to call legal and illegal. One violation will be a warning; every other time after that is an automatic out.

Once contacting the pressure plate, the batter will hear a first chime. The first chime signals when the batter may begin to aim his swing. His swing can be aimed anywhere. Once the second chime is heard, the batter must shoot the arrow for his swing. If he fails to complete this in time, he is ruled out.

A foul ball is an automatic out. Any ball that fails to leave the infield is an automatic out. Balls lodged in the wall will be ruled a double. Anything stuck on top of the wall is a home run. Baserunners advance the amount of bases the hit was. So, if a baserunner is on second, and the batter at the plate hits a single, the runner on second only advances to third.

Runs are scored just the same as they are in a baseball game. Singles and doubles are determined on if a ball is in front of or behind an outfielder.

Fielding

Fielders will take their positions in the outfield with any alignment they choose, so long as they are in the outfield. Outfielders are supposed to fly at the minimum height (2 blocks). When a ball is hit, they are supposed to fly towards it to try and catch it. If a ball hits them, then an out is recorded. It is up to the umpire to determine if a ball is caught or not, but if there is a dispute/accusation of bias, then the protesting team can discuss with the other team and potentially override the umpire. Honesty is key here. If a ball is not caught, there are two options for a hit. In front of the fielder is a single. Behind the fielder is a double. It is up to the umpire to determine this.
