The MRT Ice Hockey Cup is an ice hockey tournament centred around a knockout stage competition. Any player and their teammate can enter the competition for a chance to win the ultimate prize; the trophy, bragging rights and also an MRT cash prize.

The Beginnings

Founded by LondonThameslink, the competition is a new concept and also a new event solely for ice hockey. Previously, ice hockey has only been played during TacoBurritoAThon whos event is organised by Skelezomperman and also during The Amazing Race 12, organised by McYoshi26. Other events may have included ice hockey at one point however is not listed here for research reasons. Since 2020, Ice Hockey has started to become popular on the Minecart Rapid Transit server. When TacoBurritoAThon came around, Hendon hosted what was the first ice hockey match (again this is not confirmed), as a new sport alongside bobsleigh.

In 2022, after some events that included ice hockey, London has decided to ask the community if they were interested in an ice hockey cup competition, to be staged as a knockout competition and that any team/player could enter. An interest poll in event-announcements speaks volumes; the demand for ice hockey has skyrocketed since the announcement almost a week ago, with 16 people interested in the tournament! Before remembrance weekend (12th/13th November 2022), 9 players have registered their confirmation to take part, along with 3 teams confirmed. A minimum of 4 teams is required to play a proper knockout stage (4 teams down to 2 teams, a winner announced between the 2 teams).

Each game lasts for 12 minutes with each half being 6 minutes long. There are two halves and half time is usually 2-3 minutes long. This is however subject to change depending on the number of teams.

Ice Hockey Rules: The Arena/Stadium and players

The rules of ice hockey as updated on 11th November 2022:

  1. The hockey arena or stadium must have a standard universal ice hockey pitch with two goals, semi circles, centre circle and other lines as denoted in the image.
  2. Hockey arena or stadium must have adequate seating facilities for the home and away teams, plus a time out "sin-bin" box for players who have been sin-binned.
  3. All players must have a different colour tunic/shirt on during ice hockey games. No other pieces of clothing such as leggings, boots or helmet. No elytras are allowed.
  4. Each hockey pitch must have a command block with the pig spawn command. Pigs MUST be spawned on the centre circle before the start of a game.
  5. Pigs may be placed on the pitch if the pig has escaped the pitch or has been knockback out of the arena. The pig MUST be placed near to the point that the pig exited the field of play.
  6. If the game is played in an indoor arena/enclosed stadium, lighting must be provided.

Ice Hockey Rules: Players and the Referee

These rules are for the players who communicate with the referee. Players must respect the referees decision at all times; remember no ref, no game.

The rules here as updated on 11th November 2022:

  1. Hitting a player with the knockback stick accidentally is not anyone's fault. However, if you found to hit the player multiple times, you will be sent to the sin bin area as instructed by the referee (ref will show a yellow card stating a sin bin as denoted at the end of this rules section). A player's death from being hit multiple times also counts in this rule.
  2. Breaking, griefing or destroying the goals, the pitch or any aspects of the arena will result in a sin bin (yellow card). The game will be paused by the referee to check all goals and the pitch condition for any damage and will repair if needed.
  3. Players found to be knockbacking a pig without a knockback stick won't be punished. It will however slow your game down.
  4. Any players found not to have the correct team colour tunic will be told to put their colours on.
  5. Players are not allowed to hit the opponent's goalkeeper/goaltender.

Sin Bin: The sin bin (technically referred to as the penalty box) is an action performed by the referee that means that if a player is found to infringe/break the rules, they will be sent to the sin bin for a certain period of time. Sin bins can range from 2 minutes up to a maximum of 5 minutes depending on the infringement severity. A sin bin is a yellow card as shown by the referee. The yellow card is a yellow banner in-game. Players sinbinned can still play in the next match providing they have not been banned by MRT Staff.
