Since February 4th, 2015, Mojang has allowed Minecraft players to change their username. This page documents MRT policy on name changes across MRT services.

Minecraft

Minecraft’s interface allows players to change their usernames by visiting the Minecraft website at minecraft.net. Username changes can be done once every 30 days; players may change their username to any username that has not been in use for the past 37 days. (This means that if a player changes their username, they have a 7 day long grace period to revert the change.) Each Minecraft account still has a unique ID, so changing your Minecraft username will not result in rank, balance, warps, or homes being lost (and it also cannot be used to circumvent bans).

If you change your username in Minecraft, it is your responsibility to notify Staff of the change either via email or by notifying them in the #requests-to-staff channel in Discord. Please do this promptly so the Staff can update all of the relevant documents. In the event of a temporary name change only for a month (e.g., changing to a Christmas-themed name for December), please note that so that the username is marked only as a temporary username.

Do not change your username to something that is inappropriate or otherwise disruptive such as changing your username to spoof the username of a banned member. Changing a username to disrupt the server is grounds for a warning or other punishment even if it is done as a "joke."

Occasionally, a member may need to change accounts for various reasons. If this is done, please notify the administrators so the appropriate permissions (rank, balance, homes, and warps) can be shifted between accounts.

Discord

Discord usernames can freely be changed within Discord’s interface. However, in the MRT Discord it has to be obvious who uses which account. If a player joins Discord with an account that does not make it immediately obvious who they are, their nickname within the MRT Discord will be set to their Minecraft username by a member of the MRT Staff. (Note that the username/nickname does not have to exactly match their Minecraft username, for example “Yoshi” for “MinecraftYoshi26.”)

If you change your Discord username to where it does not make it obvious who you are, it is your responsibility to notify Staff of your username change so your nickname can be set. Note that in the event the owner of an account cannot be determined, the Staff reserves the right to kick that account from the Discord.

Wiki

On the MRT Wiki, usernames can be changed by an administrator. If you would like your Wiki username to be changed, please ask an administrator to assist you. A username change on the Wiki will also result in the user’s userpage being moved.
