Overview

The Sunshine Cove Department of Transportation has recently removed all single space parking meters from the city and have replaced them with new multi-space parking meters on every block with paid parking to collect parking fees. Drivers are now able to pay for parking using the SCPark app using the SCPark Zone code found on the bottom of parking restriction signs.

72 Hour Maximum

For any vehicle parked on a street in the city, they are only allowed to park in one spot for up to 72 hours without being cited for overtime parking. If a vehicle is not moved after a week after cited for overtime parking, the vehicle will be towed to a city impound lot. Vehicles that are found parked on public streets without current vehicle registration or that are parked in a hazardous location that obstructs traffic or a driveway, may be cited and towed immediately, whether or not they have been issued a overtime parking notice.

Parking Permits

Zone Meter Parking

Zone meter parking are zones where there are parking meters but drivers with the specified parking zone permit can park there for free and are exempt from the time restriction. Drivers are able to identify this by looking for a parking restriction sign in a metered zone (indicated on parking restriction sign by SCPark code usually) that has a parking permit zone exemption. Non-permit holder drivers are still bound by the time restriction and are required to pay the parking fee at the meter. When outside of the times posted, they are allowed to park without time restriction and without parking fee until the start of the time restriction the next day.

Residential Zone Parking

Residential zone parking restrictions allow for residents with zone permits to park in their neighborhood overnight and without time restriction during the day. These permits are able to be obtained from neighborhood city service offices, City Hall, and the SCDOT building in Government Center. For guests, residents can purchase daily passes online at the SCDOT website. Otherwise, guests have to abide by the time restriction posted on the signs, which is usually a 3 hour restriction in residential zones.

Parking Permit Zones

Currently, there are six parking permit zones scattered throughout the city.

  • A - Downtown
  • B - Government Center
  • C - Cowell
  • H - Huntington Island
  • E - East Cove
  • U - Uptown / CMU
  • W - West Beach

Residents living inside these designated zones are allowed to register for parking permits. Every residence is allowed a limit of 2 parking permits per household except for Zones A and U, each residence is only allowed 1 permit per residence due to high parking demand. Permits also cost $50 a year per vehicle except for Zones A and U, which cost $150 a year per vehicle. All vehicles are still required to follow the 72 hour parking maximum and street cleaning rules.

Disabled Placards

The city issues special disabled parking permits for disabled placard holders. With a special disabled parking permit, you may park in any of the following zone, as long as the person who was issued the permit to is being transported in the vehicle:

  • Blue Disabled Only Spots
  • Areas with posted time limits
  • Residential Permit Parking areas with overnight restrictions

Vehicles are still required to follow the 72 hour parking maximum and street cleaning rules.

Street Cleaning

SCDOT reminds all drivers to always check for parking and street sweeping signs. During street cleaning hours, you may not park until the street has been physically swept by the Sunshine Cove Department of Public Works. If any parking signs are defaced, deficient, or are missing, please report this to the city 311 system.
