Nostalball, Nostalian Football or Imperators’ Football is a planned footballesque game that will be the national sport of the Imperial State of Gran Cape Nostal. It has multiple disciplines to reflect the number of players on the field.

How to Play

The Pitch

Nostalball is played on a pitch of dimensions of 20m by 75m. The pitch is split into two 20m by 25m zones (technically due to the lines the centre zone is only 20m by 23m), the home end (the end where the away team’s scoring zone is located), the centre zone, and the away end (where the home team’s scoring zone is located). There are also 20m by 10m mini zones at each end that serve as the scoring zones.

Pitch Materials

The playing field can be constructed from the following materials:

  • Main material (one of the following):
    • Grass
    • Moss
    • Green and lime terracotta (in stripes)
  • Markings (one of the following):
    • White, yellow or red concrete or terracotta
    • Smooth stone; polished diorite and andesite
  • Scoring zones (one of the following):
    • Sand or red sand
    • Coarse dirt

Team Areas

Dugouts

The dugout is a 15m by 5m zone to the side of the home and away ends (specifically the side where, if facing the opposite end, the dugout will be to your right. The dugout is where all non-fielded players (also known as substitutes) and managerial staff sit. It must be connected to a changing room. Dugouts should feature usable slab or stair seats for substitutes and managers to sit on (however managers are allowed to stand, just never past the boundary line).

Changing Rooms

A changing room contains chests with a team’s kit, beds for respawn, and access to the dugout. Both changing rooms do not have to be the same size.

Club Shops

The home team should have a club shop, and the away team may have a pop-up club shop or make use of a pre-existing away club shop in the stadium grounds.

Equipment, Kit, and Contact Rules

  • No items are allowed on the pitch, with the exception of the ball.
    • However, in the dugout, players may consume most food items and health potions.
      • Golden and Notch apples are banned, and so is suspicious stew.
  • Both teams must be wearing dyed leather armour, with the tunic and leggings colours representing the team. The helmet is optional, but if worn must be undyed, but the boots can be any colour.
    • A team must have at least two kits (a home and an away) and their colours can be the same as other teams, but if the colours are too similar, match officials may request the use of an alternative kit to avoid confusion amongst players, fans, commentators and officials alike.
    • In formal multiple match competitions (tournaments and leagues), a club’s kits cannot be changed for the duration of the competition.
      • However, they can still use other kits in friendly matches and to enter new competitions.
    • Enchanting the kit with mending is recommended, to allow for the use of xp bottles as an armour repair tool.
  • A player can only be punched if that player has the ball, or has punched the player with the ball on your team.
    • If a player drops the ball or stops punching the player with the ball, the players punching them must stop.

Scoring Rules

The Ball

  • The ball used for Nostalball must be a slimeball.
  • It must be named “Nostallball [Match Title] Official Match Ball”.
  • It cannot be destroyed before during or after the match.
  • If a player has the ball, they must hold it in their main or off hand.

Scoring System

One point is granted to the team that is attacking the endzone the ball is dropped in every time the ball is dropped in an endzone.

Basic Rules

  • Set your spawn in your changing room before playing. This way you can put new kit on to head back into the game or to the dugout.
  • Depending on the player limits of the discipline, you can have a certain amount of players on the field and in total (including subs).
