Salem, stylized as "Welcome To SALEM" is a deception-based game made by LDShadowLord, and based off the similarly named "Town of Salem" web game. The game pits 7 or more players against one another to discover which of the players is hiding a secret agenda. The players can vote to have someone executed if they players believe that the other player is part of the "evil" team.

The town of Salem is associated with the Holy City of Minster and is set above Minster on a plateau.

Introduction

“Welcome to Salem”, or “Salem”, is a game styled after “Town of Salem”, “Werewolf”, and “Mafia”. They all follow the same basic premise; of the group of players a minority are against the general populace or have an otherwise hidden agenda. The regular players must discover who this minority are and stop them from completing their task by voting to have the minority executed.

In Salem there are many “classes” which are randomly distributed to players at the beginning of the game. These classes can then be further categorized as good, neutral, mafia. Neutral and Mafia are both classed as "evil" as good cannot win with any of those classes remaining. There will always be at least 3 evil classes in a game, with a maximum of 5 evil classes. The rest of the classes will be good. There will always be 1 Coroner.

All players are allowed to vote each day as to who should stand trial that day for their crimes. At the trial each player must vote either “Guilty” or “Innocent”. If the majority choose Innocent then the player is set free and cannot be retried for 2 days. If guilty is the majority option, then the player is sentenced to death in the execution chamber.

Each player has their own notes. These notes can be edited at any point, as long as the player has access to their notebook. Upon the players death, their notes are made public by the “Enquiry”. The Enquiry is updated as more information is made available.

Different actions/abilities have different times. If an action takes 1 night, then it can be requested and fulfilled in the same night, however an action that takes multiple nights can only be fulfilled on the final night.

There is a set turn order each night that must be followed to ensure that defensive characters go first and offensive characters go last.

Game Stages

There are several game stages the game progresses through, these are Daylight, Voting, and Night-time.

Daylight

During Daylight the players can check their mail, make notes and discuss what happened during the night. This is also the time when the players can question other players about their role, or what they did the previous night.

Voting

The voting happens during the day. The players cast a public vote as to whether a particular player is guilty or innocent. If the majority of players choose Innocent, then the player is set free and cannot be retried for 2 days. If guilty is the majority option, then the player is sentenced to death in the execution chamber.

It must be a majority of all players, not just a majority of who voted. Players are allowed to abstain from voting.

Night-Time

During nighttime players are allowed to use their actions. Single action (1 night) actions can be completed the same night they are started.
