Savannastan

Savannastan is a state in the United States of the East, its (real) Governor and Lieutenant Governor are Purrcat2010 and Krakabraka respectively. Its capital city is Felisburg. As its name suggests, it is mostly in a savannah.

Real

Savannastan was one of the early states, but it was founded a few days after the USE was founded. Its capital Felisburg was founded on the same day as the state and the area around Felisburg is the most significantly developed area. Felisburg is currently going for the councillor rank. There is also a city called Selegna Sol consisting of currently just an upside-down house owned by Krakabraka, with a 50*50 exclave of Midbay approved at the September 4th House of Representatives Meeting. As of the August 31st Senate Meeting, Savannastan owns a part of the desert to the south (the blue bordered unclaimed state immediately to the south of Savannastan) In the wake of Shanthi leaving the USE, Savannastan got some land that was once part of SE Shanthi (please verify). That is really all for right now.

Geography

Land

Savannastan may be landlocked, but it is cut through by rivers and pockmarked with ponds and lakes, the smaller ones only have water for parts of the year. The largest permanent body of water is Lake Metis, on the border of Greenland and next to the town of the same name. The longest river is the Shanthi River, which originates in Savannastan and eventually flows into the sea. However, the longest river solely in Savannastan is the Metis River, flowing from the aforementioned Metis Lake all the way to the aforementioned Shanthi River. The south of Savannastan is the Plains of Ash, popularly called "Little Desolet Desert" or just "The Desert", a mostly sandy with some variations in the terrain hot desert region lived in by few people. The center of Savannastan is the (borderline arid in some spots) Asphodel Badlands, named after the county of the same name and often popularly called just "The Badlands". The north is the more elevated (and less arid) plateau highlands called the Savannastan Highlands, informally called the "Savannastan Sky Islands" due to their (slightly) higher rainfall, or just "The Highlands". This region is divided in turn into three areas, Ante Forestan Plateau west of the Shanthi River, Euros Plateau east of the Metis River, and Lemuria Plateau in between.

One of the multiple geographical anomalies in Savannastan is the Felia River. Unlike most rivera in the area, it flows in the opposite direction, from north to south in other words. The Felis River starts in the hills of Greenland and meanders through it’s namesake Felisburg before flowing out into the desert towards some lakes and rivers just beyond said desert.

The state borders Shanthi to the north, Greenland to the east, (please verify) Oraicon to the southwest, and Forestan to the northwest.

The highest point in Savannastan is Mt. Foresavanna, located at 4,764 (x), 5,272 (z) near the border with Forestan, with an elevation of 161 (y). The lowest point in Savannastan is Covered Wash, located at 25,499 (x), 6,086 (z), with an elevation of 52 (y)*.

*On September 11th, 2021, Purrcat2010 discovered a point in an unnamed ravine at 25,789 (x), 5,858 (z) near the border of Greenland that is deeper by around 10 blocks, but it is generally ignored in favor of the more well-known Covered Wash.

Climate

Savannastan, at the most basic level, has a hot semi-arid (Koppen Classification BSh) climate the majority of the state with a hot desert (Koppen Classification BWh) in the south of it. In the de jure semi-arid Asphodel Badlands, rainfall and temperatures of it can still be at or beneath the international definition of a desert at 10 inches (254 millimeters), most of it falling in the winter and not always being reliable from year to year, and as a hot as 115*F (46*C), occasionally 120*F (49*C) in some places, in the summer. 'In all three of the aforementioned areas of the Savannastan Highlands, it is still BSh, but depending on how far north or (especially) high up one goes, it borders on cold semi-arid. Regardless, it gets (just barely in some parts) of The Highlands enough rain to support agriculture without irrigation. The Savannastan Highlands serves as a natural barrier to rain that wishes to make it to the Asphodel Badlands and the desert beyond. Lower down near the border with Shanthi, it also has this climate. In the desert south, it is (obviously) very hot and dry as it is BWh with temperatures often exceeding 120*F, even occasionally reaching 130*F (55*C) in some places, in the summer and with rainfall on average around 4-6 inches (102-152 millimeters) per year, sometimes even less in some places and years.

To summarize the previous paragraph in Savannastan, it is generally rainiest near the border of Greenland, hotter and more arid to the south. At high enough elevations, specifically near the border with Forestan, temperatures can drop low enough in the winter for it to snow.

Record high temperature in Savannastan is 131*F (about 55*C) at Stovetop Flats, easily making it the one of the highest temperatures in the USE and the New World. Record low temperature in Savannastan is 5*F (-15*C) on the top of Mt. Foresavanna.

Transport

(Ad interim text) Transit in Savannastan between the different towns is handled by the company SavannaTransit. In addition, Savannastan is in a joint transit agency with three other nearby states that Purrcat2010 joined on the condition that he got to keep SavannaTransit as a separate entity.

Also, Savannstan has a network of state and local roads between settlements in it. As shown on the map, two interstates are planned to terminate and/or pass through the state, providing road connections to other parts of the USE along with various planned back road connections between states.
