South Plains Freeway
The South Plains Freeway is a short freeway in southwestern Wurst. Locally, it is designated as the F17.
History
May 2022 - Freeway proposed
The freeway was originally named as the Meat Parkway. The idea behind the creation of the freeway is to mainly reduce travel times from the F3 (now Eastern Freeway) to the F8 (no modern equivalent) as shown in the plan.
October 2022 - Newbridge border claims
Newbridge decided to claim all land south of the F8 in the May 2022 freeway plan. As a result, freeway proposals were reduced. What would have been the Meat Parkway in the May 2022 plan became the South Plains Freeway. However, the number of the freeway did not change, only the name was changed, it is still the F17.
January 2023 - Construction started
Terminating at the Eastern Freeway, the South Plains Freeway was built not long after the Eastern Freeway was built. However, as it is a low priority project, construction progressed rather slowly in the coming months, before construction finally finished in May 2023.
It should be noted that the freeway took a more westward route because it is expected to connect to the A8 extension in the future. Whether the extension will be carried out is still uncertain.
