History
April 2022 - Freeway Proposed
Since early 2022, fast boi ownership has skyrocketed after external connections have been established by the A980 and A84 highways. To cope with increasing traffic, a comprehensive freeway plan within the city was published. Once known as the Meat Parkway or the Donbas Freeway, it was renamed to the Eastern Freeway in May 2022. Despite popular belief, it has nothing to do with the road with the same name in Melbourne.
September 2022 - Construction began
The first section of the freeway built was the section from the River Freeway (F4) to the South Plains Freeway (F17) in September 2022. The freeway was gradually extended across Cheddar Island and eastwards to Goa Way (F2).
Major milestones:
Sep 2022 - Cheddar Island Bypass (F5) to South Plains Freeway (F17) section completed
Oct 2022 - Cheddar Island section (River Freeway to Cheddar Island Bypass) completed
Dec 2022 - Spaghetti junction completed
Jan 2023 - South Plains Freeway (F17) to Goa Way (F2) section completed
Future plans
Westwards
An extension using a tunnel to the Northern Freeway (F15) is under construction. Plans further west are unlikely.
Eastwards
Bit by bit, it will be extended as far east to the A1.
