Nansei Cruise Lines is a cruise ship company based out of Wenyanga. It is the largest cruise line on the server by active ship count, as well as the first to start services.

NCL was called Nansei Shipping Line (NSL) until 1982.

Gaia class

SS Gaia (1935-1969)

SS Gaia leaving Kazeshima, 1937

SS Gaia was the first NSL ship to be built. She had 18 beds, and not much else. She sailed out of Wenyanga, and was 26m long. She weighed 761 GT, which was heavy for a ship of the time

Her keel was laid in Wenyanga in 1934, and she was quickly completed and launched by 1935, where she sailed with NSL for 34 years. In the Nansei Civil War, she went into hiding near Cape Cambridge. After the war, she continued with NSL until she was sold to Windferry and renamed Kaze Himori, receiving motor engines.

She was sold in 1992 and scrapped in 1993, her parts being used to build Lake Jade in 1994. Her bell remains on Lake Jade to this day.

SS Terra (1936-1969)

SS Terra, 1938

SS Terra was the second ship to be built, and was Gaia's sister ship. She was 28m long, and had space for 2 more beds. She weighed significantly more than her sister, at 819 GT.

Her keel was laid in 1934, next to her sister, but she only entered service in 1936 because more resources were spent on Gaia. She was known as "The Tiny Monster" after she was converted into a troopship in 1937, due to how many Kazeshiman warboats she sank by firing at them, or ramming them. She was converted back in 1947, after the cease of hostilities, and continued with being an ocean liner until she was sold in 1969 to Windferry as Kaze Wasabi, having served with NSL for 33 years. She received the same modifications as Gaia (motor engines and lengthening).

She was sold and scrapped in 1995.

SS Nova (1936-1971)

SS Nova breaking ice, 1938

SS Nova was the third ship built for NSL. She was 28m long, and like Terra, was also 819 GT.

SS Nova with Aqua Cruises, 1984

Her keel was laid in 1935, entering service with NCL in 1936, the following year. She also acted as a troopship alongside her sister Terra, transporting troops out of Wenyanga/Shenghua. After the war, she converted back into a normal ship, where she operated regular trips as far as Lumeva. In 1971, she was sold to Aqua Cruises, her hull was colored blue, and she was upgraded into a ferry, with a motor engine.

SS Nova on display in Wenyanga, 2014

In 2003, she was retired, shortened to 15m, and put on display in Wenyanga, where she has been ever since. She is currently 85 years old as of 2021.

SS Gladia (1937-1945)

SS Gladia was the fourth ship built for NSL. She was 29m, and weighed 850 GT.

SS Gladia after she was sunk, 1992

Her keel was laid in 1937, entering service the same year. She still operated liner crossings during the Nansei Civil War, and rammed a submarine at one point in 1941. However, on 15 January 1945, she was sunk by a Kazeshiman battleship. She remains on the oceanbed today, 20km north of Shahai. Her wreck was found by a team of scientists in 1992, and can be found at these coordinates.

SS Elysia (1948-1980)

SS Elysia sailing alongside SS Gaia, 1950

SS Elysia was the fifth, largest and last Gaia ship built for NSL. She was 30m long, and weighed 880 GT.

Her keel was laid in 1938, but was abandoned shortly after due to the Nansei Civil War. After the war ended in 1947, she was finished, entering service in 1948 as a replacement for the sunk SS Gladia. She had an eventful life with NSL, being around by the time MS Azure had entered service. She was sold off to Windferry as Kaze Sakura II.

She was scrapped shortly after the New Millenium rolled in, at 52 years old.

Ruby class

SS Ruby (1949-2021)

Lake Ruby stored at Wenyanga, 2020

SS Ruby was the first of the brand new ocean liners ordered by NSL in 1948. Originally being fitted with 10 beds, this was changed to 3 staterooms, then 30 chairs. She was 26m long.

She was built in 1948, and entered service in 1949, on ocean liner routes. She was a huge success, despite competing with liners twice her size (the largest ship in the world at the time, the 42m SS Regal by Aqua Star Line, now Aqua Cruises, had entered service the same year). She operated out of New Singapore during the boom of the late 60s, and did transocean cruises to Bahia. In 1974, she was equipped with a motor engine to replace her steampower, and renamed MS Ruby. In 1982, she was turned into a cruise ship after the renaming of the company, boasting 3 staterooms for short cruises through Lake Gunto, and in 1997, her name was again changed, now to Lake Ruby. She was further converted into a ferry in 2007, and operated short ferries out of New Singapore until 2020, when she was stored.

At the time of her sale, she was the oldest active ship in the fleet, at 72 years of age. She has since been sold to Horizon River Cruises in mid-2021, where she continues to sail out of Wenyanga until her slated retirement in 2022.

SS Scarlet (1950-2010)

Lake Scarlet in 2004

SS Scarlet was the second Ruby liner to enter service. She was an exact copy of her older sister.

She was built in 1949, entering service in 1950. She operated ocean liner crossings out of Lumeva, and was the first ocean liner to visit Stone Bay. Like her sister, she was equipped with motor engines and her name was changed to MS Scarlet in 1974, and she was converted into a 3-room cruise ship in 1982 after NSL rebranded. Her name was changed to Lake Scarlet in 1997.

Unlike Ruby and Rose, Lake Scarlet was sold off in 2010 to Aqua Cruises as simply Scarlet. She was converted into a ferry in 2014, and stored in 2020, before being sold to Horizon River Cruises in mid-2021, where she continues to sail out of Stone Bay until her slated retirement in 2022.

SS Rose (1952-2021)

Lake Rose at the Wenyanga shipyard in 2013

SS Rose was the third and last Ruby ocean liner to enter service. She was 28m long.

She was built in 1951, entering service in 1952. Like her sisters, she was equipped with motor engines and her name was changed to MS Rose in 1974, and she was converted into a 3-room cruise ship in 1982 after NSL rebranded. Her name was changed to Lake Rose in 1997.

Like her sister Ruby, Lake Rose was converted into a ferry in 2016, where she operated short ferries out of Dogwood until her storage in 2020. She was later sold to Horizon River Cruises in mid-2021, however did not enter service with Horizon as planned and was laid up to be used as spare parts for Ruby and Scarlet.
