Horizon River Cruises is a cruise line providing scenic river cruises in Azalea Group destinations, founded on December 30, 2021 following a restructuring of Nansei Ferry Lines.
History
Horizon River Cruises has its roots in Nansei Ferry Lines, an offshoot of Nansei Cruise Lines intended to operate ferries to and from NCL destinations, though the company remained dormant until three Ruby-class ferries were transferred to the company in mid-2021.
In December 2021, with the co-CEO of Azalea Group, Airplaneguy9 stepping down, the company underwent a reorganisation to form the present-day Horizon River Cruises on December 30th.
On March 17, 2022, Horizon River Cruises ordered two Discovery-class river cruise ships to replace its Ruby-class fleet. This was followed by an order for an additional Discovery-class ship on March 20th and two new Equinox-class ships on May 27th.
Fleet
Horizon River Cruises currently has 3 ships in its fleet, though more ships are planned as its existing fleet will be eventually phased out.
Ruby-class
The Ruby-class, formerly Mercury-class, cruise ships are small, ferry size cruise ships. They are between 26 and 28 blocks long and 8 blocks wide, with space for cabins and bathrooms. They will offer 1-night scenic river cruises in their respective cities. Nansei Cruise Lines initially ordered two Ruby-class cruise ships from Wenyanga Shipbuilders on 15 April 2021. The first one, MS Ruby, arrived the same day, while the second one, MS Scarlet, arrived on 20 April. A third ship, MS Rose, was ordered on 19 April. She is two metres longer and under construction. On 21 April, all Ruby-class ships had 'Lake' added to their names as a prefix.
All Ruby-class ships were designated as ferries in May 2021, and were each sold off to Horizon River Cruises in mid-2021. All Ruby-class ships were once again renamed with the "Horizon" prefix in March 2022. Horizon Ruby will operate ferries out of Wenyanga, Horizon Scarlet out of Stone Bay, and Horizon Rose out of Dogwood.
Discovery-class
The Discovery-class river cruise ships are the first newbuilds for Horizon River Cruises, intended to replace the Ruby-class ships due to their age. Like their predecessors, they will operate 1-night short scenic cruises along rivers or small water bodies. The initial order for two Discovery-class river cruise ships, Horizon Discovery and Horizon Journey, were ordered on March 17, 2022. The third and final ship, Horizon Endeavor, was ordered on March 20th.
Equinox-class
The Equinox-class river cruise ships have the same dimensions as its predecessor, the Discovery-class, but have an updated design. Owing to the Discovery-class' success, they will operate on similar 1-night scenic cruises. Two Equinox-class river cruise ships, Horizon Equinox and Horizon Solstice, were ordered on May 27, 2022.
