Rank

A rank is the hierarchy and status of a member on the MRT. They range from non-member ranks to staff ranks. Most are obtained by submitting a request to staff, but some are obtained with simple requirements, such as building a business or starting a town with 10 or more buildings. Others are obtained at General Staff Meetings (GSMs), like Premier and helper/staff ranks. Only one rank cannot be obtained, that being Owner.

History

Old World

When the server was founded in July 13, 2012, there were only 4 ranks: Guest, Member, Mod and Admin. Guests could only explore the server, Members can place and break most blocks, and since the beginning of the server, Mods and Admins, in addition to doing staff work, were the only people who could do world edits. Additionally, Mods and Admins, called "admods", could edit MRT stations and place restricted blocks, such as water, ice and lava, before the Conductor rank was introduced for that purpose in October 2012.

When chiefbozx was promoted to Admin in July 16, 2012, a new rank, Owner was added, being given to Frumple, In August 2012, the Mayor rank was introduced, being given to people who built towns of a significant size, and initially did carry extra permissions at this time, other than W/G protection, which were discounted by January 2013.

In January 19, 2013, the Conductor rank was retired, instead being replaced with Trusted rank, which was originally chosen by admins, then became a nomination-based system, which members could submit nominations to staff for consideration at staff meetings. People with Trusted rank had the same permissions as the old Conductor rank, except they could use home commands.

In November 10, 2013, Frumple announced that people could now donate to the server. Those who donated to the server have a + next to their tag and can use /me and color codes. Additionally, only members could donate to the server, with restrictions being put so guests or banned members could not donate, and doing chargebacks are not permitted, instead resulting in a permanent ban.

In February 2014, after an ASM about updating the warning policy, players get demoted to Member rank upon getting two warnings, or one in some circumstances, instead of being demoted upon getting a single warning.

New World

Starting from January 2014, when preparations for New World were started, a new rank system was proposed in order to encourage development of towns. The Old World ranks would be changed, with Mayors becoming Citizens and Trusteds becoming Trustees. Five new ranks would be added between Trustee and Mod, being obtained by building a town, with each rank having perks such as allowing to build intercity connections or certain builds such as stadiums or airports. Through Gamma, what players got from obtaining town and city ranks did not change much, except for the abolishment of town limits per rank and a temporary ban of new airfields for Senators between 2015-2016.

After the migration to Epsilon, in May 2017, a rank revamp proposal was introduced, with transit connections, and large stadiums and arenas being no longer restricted by rank. Additionally, a Trial Mod rank was introduced, with the purpose being a probation period, and later to indicate warnings given for "undesirable behavior" on mods. Trial Mods, upon promotion or being given a warning, would go through a 3-month probation before being promoted to full Mod, and had the same permissions as Mod, except full Mods can ban Trial Mods in an emergency, but this was never used. Additionally, during the time when Trial Mod rank existed, no Trial Mod has failed their probationary period.

At May 2018 GSM, players demoted due to a double warning, upon expiration, instead of having their original rank restored, instead now had to submit a reflection letter to the admins.

In February 2019 GSM, there was an another Rules Revamp, with Councillor and Mayor towns being allowed to have helicopters, and later seaplanes at August 2019 GSM.

In August 2020 GSM, the Trial Mod rank was abolished, with existing Trial Mods and new moderators promoted from that point being promoted directly to Moderator.

In June 2022, after lengthy discussions about a separate helper rank for World Edit, the Conductor rank was introduced, being able to do World Edit. Conductors follow the same process as Mods, with a simple majority being required for promotion, except prospective Conductor candidates apply for the position instead of being nominated by other players.

Current non-town ranks

Guest

Guest is the default rank for anybody joining the server for the first time. To prevent griefing, they cannot place or destroy blocks, and a number of other permissions are blocked for Guests. Guests can submit a form to staff to become Members if accepted.

Some guests have responded to this by hacking or protesting the server, however those guests are banned shortly after.

Member

Member is the first rank that allows placing and destroying blocks. Most permissions however are still blocked for Members. After making a residence and a business, Members can ask a staff member to become Citizen.

Member is also a common rank for people to get demoted to when warned, as it has almost no permissions aside from block placing and breaking.

Citizen

Citizens are essentially Members with the permission to make one /home. A Citizen can become a Trustee by politely asking other members that are Trustee or over to give them a recommendation. If a Citizen obtains 3 of these recommendations, they can ask to be promoted to Trustee by a staff member.

Trustee

Trustee is the highest non-town rank on the server. Trustees can place blocks that aren't available to lower ranks, like lava or water. They also have the ability to spawn mobs and NPCs, and get 2 more /homes. A Trustee can be promoted to Councillor if their town has at least 10 detailed builds.

Current town ranks

The town ranks can be either given to the player (for their highest-ranked town they built), granting them more /homes and NPCs as you go higher in rank or to the town, granting the town access to air transit, with more being granted as the town reaches higher in rank.

If the town meets the requirements for the required rank, the ranks in between can be skipped if the member has had the rank previously for a different town.

Councillor

Councillor is the lowest town rank on the server. They can have one helicopter in their town, and if applicable, 2 seaplanes. They have 5 more NPCs they can place, and 3 more /homes. They can also place and create warp signs. To become Mayor, a Councillor (or higher) has to build a large town with at least 20 detailed builds.

Mayor

Mayors get another helicopter and 2 more seaplanes if applicable. They also get 10 /homes and can rename the nearest (usually their town's) MRT station to their choice. It is the last rank to be given by asking an active staff member. To become Senator, a Mayor or above must submit their town to staff, with 40 detailed builds.

Senator

Senators are eligible to build a small airfield, up to 7500 blocks in area. They also get unlimited helicopters and 2 more seaplanes, provided they are in the airfield space, and 15 /homes and 30 NPCs. For a Senator or higher to become Governor, they can submit their city to staff. A city landmark is required for Governor.

Governor

Governors are eligible to build a large airport, up to 50% the size of the city. They also get 20 homes, 50 NPCs, and 6 more seaplanes.

Premier

Premier is the highest city rank on the server. Premiers are immune to Inactive Asset Transfers (IATs) and their city is considered a grand and inspirational city to the server. Governor cities wishing to become Premier, due to the rank's importance, are decided at a GSM by staff. If accepted, new Premiers usually have an acceptance speech.

Current helper/staff ranks

Conductor

Conductors are able to provide world edits to other members. They are selected in General Staff Meetings (GSM) after a candidate submits an application form.

Moderator

Moderators are able to issue warnings, handle promotions and vote in GSMs, in addition to providing larger world edits to members if necessary. They are selected from a vote in a GSM after being nominated by two other members.

Administrator

Administrators are able to approve or reject member applications, issue indefinite or permanent bans, conduct rollbacks and perform Dynmap renders for the whole map. The only member with the Administrator rank on the server is SimonScholar, who also serves as Head Administrator, with the added ability to issue vetoes to a person's eligibility for Conductor or Moderator.

Owner

The only member with the Owner rank on the server is Frumple. He manages the server finances, can ban and warn members, enforces rules, accepts membership forms and is the highest ranking authority on the server. Frumple has had the rank since 2012.
