On Tap is a rechargeable contactless smart card used as a fare card for On Track members and transit systems that are part of the Metro Partnership Program. Launched on January 9, 2018, it can be used interchangeably with MetroCRP's Tappo, Richville Metro's TransConnect, Liston Metro's Calamari, Veolia Metro’s Travlr, Kevtropolis Rapid Transit and TransportOsaka's Pasmo, and Lansing Metro's Pace.

Etymology

The name "On Tap" is a parody on the name of the On Track alliance, which owns the card.

Uses

Although the card was originally made for use on the network of On Track members only, it quickly expanded in the days following its introduction and is now usable for various metro systems and retail stores.

On Track Network

On the On Track network, the card is the primary smartcard used and it can be bought, reloaded and refunded at all On Track stations. On Tap cards can only be bought and refunded at On Track ticket machines. An exception is at CAT-Rail stations. The card cannot be bought, reloaded, refunded or used at CAT-Rail stations as CAT-Rail does not have a ticketing system.

Metros

Under the Metro Partnership Program, On Tap is usable on all partner metro systems, although it is usually not the primary smartcard used; that would be the smartcard that is branded by the metro. The On Tap card cannot be bought or refunded at metro ticket machines, they can only be reloaded.

Retail

The first franchise to adopt payment with On Tap is GoLibrary where it can be used to purchase drinks at GoLibrary: Books and Coffee branches. On Tap is planned to be deployed to more franchises in the near future.

Technology

On Tap uses Imagination™, a technology which has been present in human beings for millions of years, therefore, providing backwards compatibility for the On Tap card.

Interoperability

The On Tap card is interoperable with the smartcards of 7 metro systems. MetroCRP's Tappo was the first, adopting On Tap compatibility on January 14, 2018, the day the Metro Partnership Program was launched. Next was Richville Metro's TransConnect, and Liston Metro's Calamari, all joining on January 15, 2018. Next was Veolia Metro’s Travlr, which joined on April 4, 2018. Most recently have been Kevtropolis Rapid Transit and TransportOsaka's Pasmo, and Lansing Metro's Pace, both joining on May 28, 2019.
