Southport-sur-mer, more often referred to as Southport, is a city in Ward 4 of the New World. Southport is the southernmost and largest city of the Federal Republic of Polytan. The suffix "sur-mer" originates from the nearby River Mer.
Birth
The official date of birth of Southport-sur-mer remains unknown. Scientists estimate that it was founded in November 2018, although some say Southport traces back to months earlier – then existing as an unwanted ditch consisting of Southport Central Station (nowadays Southport Riverfront) and the Southport Library. This remains uncertain.
The truth, which is extremely hard to admit, is that Southport used to be a suburb of Palestropol, and was then split off to become it's own town.
Following several days of inconsiderate cacistrocratic leadership by ondist, gsuatv took over the mayorship of Southport, laying the first stones of an unstoppable reign of terror.
First Scandal
The birth of Southport is known for its impending spontaneous urban expansion, leading to unplanned roads and inconsistently distributed housing for early residents. Traces of this can still be seen in today's Southport Riverfront road system. Many believe this was the origin of the immense wealth disparity within Southport-sur-mer.
Southport has the highest wealth gap of all Polytanian towns. Alarming rates of crippling poverty have shaped Southport's reputation within the Republic of Polytan.
Civil war
The mass famine of 2019 was a result of a complete shortage of sufficient food in the north-western parts of Southport. It has sparked the civil war of Southport-sur-mer, locally referred to as the 'Fruity war'. The civil war reached its peak when The Local Sheep was assassinated on 27.2.2019. This led to the instantaneous construction of the Ice Arena, where 184 people have been executed in March 2019 alone. It is still the main execution hall in Southport to this date. On 31.3.2019, ondist called out gsuatv for his incompetent leadership of distribution of goods, sparking the Southport Food Marches which convinced gsuatv to construct sufficient supermarkets in all parts of Southport. This resolved all remaining tensions for the next months.
Second Scandal
Southport was frequently involved in spacial disputes with its northern neighbours Palestropol and Rockley. Southport's expansion eventually escalated to the point where ondist had to intervene. A fixed border was constructed advertising the fracking company Tekashi Airlines. This led to the Great Depression.
Great Depression
The encapsulation of Southport resulted in a halt of any further construction or expansion.
Downfall
The humiliation which resulted from the construction of the fixed border caused gsuatv to quietly abandon Southport-sur-mer.
