All the way back
Fred Rail did not begin as a big grand modern railroad company, no no. It all started the day two unfortunate souls met and raised the child that would become the original founder of Fred Rail.
It began one rainy Autumn night. George Fredrickson and his wife Mary had a son named Fred Fredrickson. His parents forced him to take up an interest in automobiles, "like that famous Ford guy" as they would often say. In retaliation to this, Fred took an interest in trains, and formed the highly successful rail company Fred Rail. His parents did not approve of this success, and in an attempt to restart their parenthood, they adopted a kid and named him Derf.
Derf
Derf was the evil adopted brother of George and Mary Fredrickson. He was named Derf, as Derf is the backwards spelling of Fred, and Fred's parents wanted a child the exact opposite of Fred. Derf was taught to go into the automobile business to make his fake parents proud. Derf briefly found success with the Derf automobile line, before Fred Rail's success crushed the automobile market.
Following Derf's automobile company failure, and the new found interest of George and Mary in their first son Fred due to his new wealth, Derf vowed revenge on Fred and everything Fred Rail. Fumes from the highly concentrated lead used in his automobile paint made Derf insane, and he began attempting to destroy Fred and Fred Rail. Early attempts failed, as setting up dynamite at track switches in front of the switchperson was not sneaky enough. Later attempts involved lighting fire to a wooden trestle bridge on a long abandoned railway line, stealing all the coal at refueling points on lines that transitioned to electric or diesel, putting explosives in explosive-proof suitcases, and attempting to hijack a train full of undercover cops. Each failure drove Derf more and more mad, and soon he was declared a terrorist in 37 countries.
Elpmurf 2
Elpmurf, Frumple's evil twin brother, traveled from the future following his failures at the end of Fred Rail 2. He briefly teamed up with Derf in an attempt to destroy Fred Rail in the past to prevent it from bothering him in the future. However, Derf proved to be a failure and a pain to work with. Thus, Elpmurf used his evil magic powers to absorb Derf's body and fuse with his memories and brain, creating Elpmurf 2. Elpmurf 2 was a mess, and failed just like both had previously done. Only once did Elpmurf 2 succeed, which was a first when compared to his two original components.
Elpmurf 2 sneakily built a town in the path of a future Fred Rail line, after sneaking into the Fred Rail headquarters and sneakily stealing plans. When Fred Rail required permission to go through the territory, Elpmurf 2 denied passage. In a diplomatic mission, our hero Fred Fredrickson bravely went to negotiate with Elpmurf 2. However, Elpmurf 2 shot Fred. But luckily, Fred had been tipped off that this might happen, and so using the magic of the rare and secret Bakersville Berry, Fred regenerated into Fred 2.
The events of the canceled unnamed Fred Rail Prequel film
After Fred 2's regeneration, he gave a long monologue describing everything previously typed. That was basically the plot of the movie, just Fred 2 and Elpmurf 2 discussing the lore of Fred Rail that hadn't been mentioned in any other Fred Rail media until now. The prequel's original screenplay (Which you can buy from any Fred Rail Merchandise Store™) was adapted by a Middle School somewhere in Wyoming into a play named "Fred Rail The Musical". The director of the unnamed Fred Rail Prequel film, who was going to be fired if a substitute to the film wasn't made soon, then stole a video recording of the play and adapted it into official Fred Rail canon by giving the rough 240p recording a few edits in Movie Maker and released it to video rental stores shortly before Blockbuster died. He was fired several days later, though CEO FredTheTimeLord keeps a golden DVD of the movie hanging in his "Wall of Fame" to make it appear that Fred Rail has more successful media than it really does.
