The Cnidarian Civil War was an armed conflict between the Commonwealth of Cnidaria and a rebellion in the capital city of Southfort. The conflict arose from civil unrest over a fire at Southfort Antiquities and Curiosities, which led to a rumor that the Cnidarian government was actively terrorizing private businesses. The unrest led to an armed conflict led by The Southfortian Province, a pro-Pearl Coast milita that apparently had been funded by Pearl Coast itself. The conflict was the deadliest in Cnidarian history.

CISA Account

Origins

On August 1st, 2020, a truck bombing occurred on Grand Empire Street and 3rd Avenue in front of Southfort Antiquities and Curiosities complex. The residual gunpowder in the surplus shop ignited and the whole building began to catch fire. Despite the efforts of CISA firefighters and infantry, the building was entirely gutted, bringing the Southfort Fisherman’s club down with it. The building next door, containing apartments and the antiques portion of the store, only suffered minor smoke damage. Thanks to the heroic actions of civilians, many of the antiques being sold were saved.

The Investigation

CISA conducted a detailed investigation throughout the night and the next day, they publicly identified the perpetrator and the vehicle, a Cnidarian anthropomorphic wolf construction worker and his work truck. Officials stated that the perpetrator likely fled from the scene. Totem Beach sent in several units to assist with security.

Unrest

A small minority of Southfortians began to suspect that the Cnidarian government had intentionally targeted the two largest private businesses in the country. Later in the day, CISA responded to an uptick in crimes. They arrested a group of fishermen with a sign saying “The Burn Was an Inside Job” and also responded to reports of a break-in at the Grand Empire St. LocalMart.

As night fell, a riot began in the borough of Bunker Bay outside of the LocalMart and Southfort National Museum. Several vehicles arrived and heavily armed members of the Los Lagartos gang arrived to assist the rioters. The Emperor of Cnidaria declared martial law. Two CISA Tank Units and two CISA Infantry units were deployed to quell the unrest, along with a Totem Beach People’s Police strike team. Suddenly one of the two tanks deployed fired upon another, destroying it. Infighting began among the troops, indicating that a rebellion was taking place within Southfort’s army. Another tank crew in the area rebelled shortly afterward, and rioters stormed hvt’s arcade and the Southfort National Museum, looting Pearl Coast propaganda. Many cities quickly moved to assist Southfort with holding the line, including Titsensaki, Cypress and New Hyrule. The deadliest moment of the night was when a rebel detonated a suicide vest at the Bunker Bay Visitor Center, destroying a Cypress medic tent.

As a precaution, CISA withdrew all army members from active service and sent in Navy TURTLES instead to replace them. Over the night, CISA managed to take back control of the museum.

The Battle of Bunker Bay

The next day, Titsensaki was ordered to take their troops out as more CISA Navy TURTLES were activated. Allied forces targeted the rebel and gang encampment in front of the LocalMart, forcing the vehicles to pull away and the rebels to regroup at the Hvt’s Arcade. The arcade would remain a focal point in the battle and it switched hands multiple times. At one point when CISA moved in, a rigged arcade machine exploded, leading to a fire.

The rebels eventually moved to the MRT Airships station and the nearby parking lots. An anonymous leader swore allegiance to Pearl Coast and declared the territory the kingdom’s “Southfortian Province”. The mayor of Sansvikk praised the rebels and began making public threats towards the Cnidarian government. The majority of the casualties of the day occurred between rebel fighters and Cypress snipers around the station. Several artillery skirmishes occurred including one that caused damage to the Bunker Bay visitor center. Fighting was limited to the Bunker Bay neighborhood but at some point, a Molotov cocktail was thrown at the Cnidarian Royal Palace, but missed.

Despite the heavy CISA presence on either side of rebel territory, hundreds of civilians moved in from the Desert Well and Bunker Bay neighborhoods and began to storm CISA Customs’ A54 booth. CISA Customs requested a squad of New Hyrulean troops to assist at the booth, but the rebels overwhelmed them and stole two CISA Jeeps. The rebels marched over the bridge and plowed one of the jeeps through the barricade. Cypress troops in the area requested backup. CISA sent three marine units over but none of them made it onto shore. Due to the heavy losses of transport corridors, troops, and the army recall, CISA was unable to help in time and the rebels took over the Cnidaria Energy Corp. Oil Refinery, giving them a degree of leverage over the rest of the city. Shortly afterward, Cypress pulled their remaining snipers out, leaving the medics behind.

Both the Southfortian Province and Cnidaria suffered heavy losses, so the two sides agreed to a ceasefire with the rebels getting everything north of Bunker Bay Avenue and Cnidaria keeping everything south. CISA troops built a concrete and rebar wall in the middle of the road. Not wanting to bow to the will of Pearl Coast, hundreds of civilians surrendered to Cnidaria, who offered them plea deals.

The Phony Ceasefire

Neither side took any official action, but chaos and panic spread throughout the city. On August 4, a group of rebels set fire to the Bunker Bay LocalMart within their territory, leaving it in ruins, and a gunman opened fire at the IntraRail station killing four CISA Customs Officers along with himself. He had pledged his support for Pearl Coast and Sansvikk.

The next day, officials from Cnidaria, Titsensaki, Totem Beach, Cypress, New Hyrule, and also Keriyonwa and Endor met at the CISA headquarters to discuss the nature of the rebellion and intelligence gathering. The meeting at the CISA headquarters was cut short by a Sunshine Coast Spy and the leaders scattered to a secure location. Keriyonwa offered intelligence of a plan for an attack at the BluRail station and forensic experts from Titsensaki corroborated rumors that Pearl Coast had directly funded the rebels and staged the attack on the antiques store.

On August 7, the leader of the Southfortian Province announced that a bomb had been placed somewhere in Cnidarian held territory and that it would be detonated if Southfort broke the ceasefire. Keriyonwa and Endor assisted CISA Bomb Squads in successfully locating and defusing the bomb, which had been placed in the Southfort Internet Cafe. That night, the Emperor of Cnidaria decided enough was enough and ordered CISA to push forward.

The Push

On the night of August 7, CISA, now with air and ground support from Endor, began to tear down portions of the wall and push into rebel held territory. The rebels shot a missile at the National Museum of Cnidaria, damaging the lobby. By the end of the night, CISA had regained control of the heavily damaged Bunker Bay Visitor Center.

The Sansvikk Massacre

The next morning, the CISA and rebels engaged in a tank battle, destroying portions of the Bunker Bay Visitor Center in the process.

Sansvikk made a move to support the rebels and deployed hundreds of troops using MRT Airships. They stormed the bunker bay region, quickly overwhelming allied forces and leading to heavy casualties. The Hvt’s Arcade was once again a major control point. Sansvikk troops massacred all the medics and triage patients in the area, drawing swift condemnation from Cypress and Cnidaria. They pushed across the Southfort River, reaching just outside the Imperial Palace. Reports emerged that Sansvikk planned to raze Southfort’s historic quarter with napalm. CISA placed Cnidaria as low as DEFCON 3. In response to the invasion, Keriyonwa dropped out due to low morale, Cypress dropped out due to losses and anti-war protests in the city, and Endor pledged support for the rebels. This prompted CISA to add all three nations to the Terror, Treachery, and Tacos Watchlist.

By the second day, CISA had lost more territory to the north, but had prepared its railway gun outside the palace, and pushed forward down Military Street. Sansvikk troops marched down Bunker Bay Avenue, and Endor had taken control of the Old City Hall. In the rebel occupied territory, the MRT Trustee’s Meeting was held at this time. According to rumors, Cnidaria sent a submarine to Sansvikk, and sought out emergency assistance from Bahia, despite their strained diplomatic relationship. However, last minute reinforcements from Totem Beach and Titsensaki managed to eliminate Endor and Sansvikk troops from northern Southfort. When the order came from up top to raze the entire city the entire regiment of Sansvik Volunteer Forces defected, and left the city through the A54.

Lost Morale

With the sudden departure of Sansvikk troops, the rebels’ morale plummeted and CISA was able to retake most of bunker bay fairly easily. Only the most determined rebels remained in the oil refinery and the tanks in the Bunker Bay parking lot. CISA Naval forces landed at the beach behind the oil refinery and took it back, leading to heavy losses on both sides, and with Grand Empire Street clear of rebel holdouts, busses arrived to arrest the remaining rebels. Cnidaria revoked the citizenship of all of them and CISA troops confiscated over a million dollars in Pearl Coast and Sansvikk assets, including money and weapons.

The Aftermath

The war left the Bunker Bay neighborhood in ruins, with two buildings completely destroyed and four heavily damaged. Southfort found itself grieving for the loss of hundreds as they picked up the pieces.

Luckily, the oil wells and the majority of the city remained intact and Southfort traded a large amount of gasoline to pay for cleaning repairs. The rowhouse housing Southfort Antiquities and Curiosities underwent a full reconstruction. A new LocalMart was constructed in Bunker Bay. The remains of the old Local Mart were preserved, along with portions of the Bunker Bay wall and a charred rebel tank.

As a result of the war, Cnidaria lifted some restrictions on private businesses and the sheer number of allies who had left Cnidaria’s side led the nation to continue its isolationist policy.

Other Accounts

Background

On August 1, 2020 a van exploded in front of Southfort Antiquities and Curiosities. 6 people died and 15 were injured. Many towns and countries went to the aid of Cnidaria in order to help them fight against terrorism. Later that day a rebellion started after a few rebels believed that the van bombing was perpetrated by the Southfort government.

History

On August 2, 2020 many protesters took to the streets of Southfort, looking for answers and demanding freedom and return to the Pearl Coast. CISA immediately brought in violence, and around 20 rebels were killed that day. On this day the Southfort government also started gaining numerous allies, such as Cypress, Totem Beach, Titsensaki, and New Hyrule. Also Keriyowna had became an ally of the Rebels soon after, providing medic camps to them. The Rebels camped in an HVT's Arcade on Bunker and Grand Empire that was taken by CISA. But after a rebel rigged an arcade machine with an explosive in case of invasion, a portion of the arcade exploded, killing 4 CISA officers. The rebellion soon took back control of the arcade. Many other violent activities were being done by the rebels that day. A molotov cocktail was thrown in front of the Imperial Palace, and a Totem Beach police officer was stabbed in front of an IntraRail station. The deadliest part of August 2 was when a rebel went into the Bunker Bay Visitor Center parking lot (which was being used by Cypress as a medic camp) and detonated a suicide vest. 8 Cypress soldiers and medics were killed in the attack, which forced Cypress to temporarily retreat for one day. August 3rd 2020, also known as Bloody Monday, was the deadliest day in the war. It started with rebels forcefully taking over an MRT Airships station and using it as a base to attack the CISA troops and Cypress soldiers. After SansNotLuigi found out about this, he joined the rebellion side (as he claimed that war and Pearl Coast were better with money). After a standoff with CISA officers, rebels were able to bypass the Southford customs gate. This lead to a blockade of the A54 held by rebels, not allowing ally troops to continue on to Southford. After a small amount of fighting on the other side of the highway at the Power Plant customs gate, many people were surprised when a car rammed into the gate. The car immediately burst into flames, but the driver and a passenger were able to make it out and ended up in a violent shootout with CISA officers. The passenger died at the scene while the driver was arrested. But now that there were no more officers at the Power Plant gate, the rebels made it to the power plant and the oil refinery and shut down both. Now that the city's power supply had been shut down and multiple soldiers had been killed in combat, there seemed to be no hope for the Southfield side. Cypress ended up retreating for another day. The Emperor of Southfort made an announcement, stating that everything north of Bunker Avenue had been surrendered to the rebellion. Although this win was short-lived, as a few minutes later Worrski had resigned from the war. He said that now that the rebellion's focus became more towards reunification with Pearl Coast rather than democracy, he didn't feel welcome on the side and was going to take a temporary leave to consider the pros and cons of each side.

On August 4, a temporary wall was built by CISA to demarcate Southfort territory to rebel territory. A ceasefire was put on hold, and it was silent for many hours. Worrski came back, but on the Southfort government's side. He built two Hempdon locations, one in the rebel territory and one in the Southfort territory. He believed that both sides could get together and enjoy some weed. Later that day, what was once peaceful soon turned deadly. A rebel extremist walked into the Southport IntraRail station and began shooting. Although no passengers were there at the time (as most refugees departed the town the day before) 4 CISA agents were killed before the extremist turned the gun on himself. The perpetrator had posted a long tirade about the civil war on his social media page that day before walking to the station. In the messages he said that he was "Pearl Coast ride or die" and "supporter of Sansvikk". He also had a manifesto containing plans to attack other places supporting the Southfield government, such as Cypress and Titsensaki to name a few. He also aspired to walk up to the Imperial Palace and "shoot that old bastard (the Emperor) in the face." SansNotLuigi mourned the death of the shooter, saying he was "a true patriot".

During this time, the Sansvikk forces stormed the Cypress Medic camp without Avaneesh2008 at the battle, Cypress was devastated with the numbers of lives lost and withdrawn all Troops saying there officers will not come back to fight but we will provide support. Right after Southfort declared the town on the treason watchlist, Cypress had enough, they had protest, just lost lots of lives and now this, Avaneesh2008 right away withdrawn from the war and banned all town/cities part of the war (with exceptions).

The ceasefire, although mildly threatened after the IntraRail shooting, kept in place throughout the week. The Emperor of Southfort said on Thursday August 6 that they wanted to bring peace back to Southfort by the day after.

Meanwhile, the regions of Lumeva and Nansei-Gunto were split over which side to join - while the governments of both regions wanted to provide backup forces to the Southfort government, the people supported the rebels, and strived to provide them with aid. However, Lumeva disagreed with this, as they still had a diplomatic crisis with Sansvikk. Over a period of a few days, both governments debated and had meetings over which side to choose. However, while some members of the government started supporting the rebels, some stayed out on sending troops into Southfort. In a famous meeting held in New Singapore on August 7, Wenyanga mayor Airplaneguy9 stormed out of a conference dedicated to sending troops into Southfort in a rage, after a heated argument. The meeting was attended by Kazeshima mayor i____7d, Shenghua mayor mi_aquamarine, Shahai mayor Weier, New Singapore temporary mayor Frosty_Creeper10, and Lumeva Armed Forces Commander-in-chief PeacemakerX5. It seemed that things went out of hand as Governor Aquamarine, Peacemaker not and Airplane debated furiously over whether to send the troops in or not, or to even provide aid to civilians. The viral incident was caught live on TeleNansei NanseiNewsNow, where citizens of Kazeshima quickly uploaded and memed the angry mayor.
