The Metropolitan line is an Auburn Underground line serving the metropolitan area of the town of Auburn. This, along with London Underground's Metropolitan line, gives the line its name.

History

The Metropolitan line was originally conceptualised as two branches of the District line, serving northwestern and southeastern regions that the District could not directly serve. The northwestern branch was known as the 'Peninsula branch' and the southeastern as the 'Stadium branch'. The unique Metropolitan line identity was formally adopted in late 2023 with the aim to simplify the District line's operation.

Construction on the line began in late 2022 with work on Roundabout station, which was constructed as part of the District line. In late 2023, the station box of Civic Centre station was constructed, with future plans to link the station exit with FLR's Auburn Station. Tracks and tunnels between the two stations were completed in January 2024.
