Nationally Operating Regional Interurbans (NORI), sometimes referred to as The Interurban, was an interurban company founded by diemundz on July 29, 2013. NORI also refers to the network of independent interurbans itself, designed to connect two major places. NORI was headquartered in Skyscraper City under its parent company MP Holdings.

NORI gets its namesake from IRON spelled backward, and many of NORI's stations and elevated structures of made of iron.

NORI Interurban was officially discontinued by diemundz on December 14, 2015. While the company's lines are still active, no new lines will be built.

History

The NORI Interurban evolved from a single line: the N1. This line was created to provide an express transfer service from Skyscraper City and Crystal City and was expected to have low ridership. However, the Interurban was successful in transporting MRT Football League players and fans within a short distance to the stadium, and as it was discovered that more players were willing to ride it, another N2 line was created. As more requests for interurbans were made, NORI grew into a moderately successful railway company.

Due to improper planning on both Crystal City lines and multiple warnings by various staff members, the N3 Interurban line was shut down and the N1 was rerouted to Inchmuir. As a result of this, no new Interurban lines were built; however, the existing lines maintained their current operational state, undergoing maintenance when required. Bus lines were being built as a continuation of the NORI Interurban due to popular demand by riders, and the N3 line was rebuilt as a bus following the original interurban route.

In the late spring and early summer of 2014, the N4 line had a major renovation and extension (dubbed the N4E Extension), in which the tracks and stations on almost the entire line were renovated or rebuilt. New stations were also built as the track extended along the I-1 and I-3 corridor. As part of the extension, the original Crystal City Board Center that was used for the N1 line was put into an operational state, making it the oldest operating station in the system.

Due to the various technical and political problems which plagued NORI rail lines over the years, as well as a lack of ridership demand, the service is no longer being actively maintained by MP Holdings. NORI Interurban's operations were officially discontinued by diemundz on December 14, 2015. Thus, while company's lines are still active, there are no plans for any new lines to be constructed.

Codesharing and alliances

NORI codeshares with other rail lines as it allows for expedited transportation over longer routes that are normally covered by multiple independent lines merging at transit hubs, thus reducing travel time over long distances.

  • NORI Interurban is a member of RailTeam and codeshares with all member rail lines.
  • NORI Bus is a member of the Ender Bus Alliance and also codeshares with all member bus lines.

Rail transit

NORI Interurban was the original rail service designed and built by diemundz. It was a member of RailTeam and accepted their monthly passes.

N1 Line

The Skyscraper City Board Center at street level

The N1 is a line that connects Skyscraper City to Inchmuir Central with a stop at Inchmuir North. The line is mostly elevated, including a bridge crossing to Inchmuir where it stops at Inchmuir North and then continues as an underground subway to Inchmuir Central, where the line terminates. Due to city planning, the line stops at Inchmuir use Cyan Systems designs. This is the only line that contains an infill station.

N2 Line

The N2 Line is a completely elevated line that connects Skyscraper City to the neighboring town of Arden. Shortly after leaving Skyscraper City, the line passes through the NORI Headquarters and Maintainance Facility before resuming its route to Arden. It follows its route along the original segment of the Skyscraper-Arden Road, although the road was built after the Interurban line was opened.

N4 Line

The unused Audenville Board Center at street level prior to it becoming a restaurant

The N4 Line is a line that connects Cyra to Menlo Park, Audenville, and Centennial. This line runs in the median of NX-03 in Cyra and I-3 in Menlo Park and Audenville, with short underground portions of track near each of the stations located below the freeway. As part of the N4E Extension, an infill station in Menlo Park was constructed, and the line was extended into the towns of Centennial, Talihina, and Crystal City.

The Audenville Board Center was used as the line's terminus from the opening of the line until May 2014. Afterward, it was replaced with a newer Cyan Systems station located under the freeway as part of the N4E Extension. The station is now closed and the track demolished, but the station building still remains and is currently used as a Japanese food restaurant called "The Sushi Train", as a reference to nori is a kind of seaweed used to make sushi.

The Crystal City Board Center used in this line was the original station used on the N1 Line before it was demolished and rerouted.

Station designs

Each NORI station has a different architectural design, although common characteristics include modern iron, glass, and stone brick construction. NORI stations can be distinguished from other rail stations by iron signs outside, near, or above the entrances that say "NORI Interurban" on them.

Tracks

NORI Interurban operates on a right-of-way with two grade-separated tracks (one in each direction) in all areas of the server. NORI does not run on ground level except for a few rare instances, such as when the tracks are in the middle of an InterMap highway.

NORI Bus was the bus sector of the NORI Interurban, created due to popular demand by riders. It was originally founded as a member of the Ender Bus Alliance.

The buses were inactive following warp plugin changes but the routes were later put into working service by Project ReBus.

N5 Line

The N5 Line (also known as the Skyscraper - SCTC Link) connects Skyscraper City with the Spawn City Transit Centre. It acts as a shuttle to and from the NORI Bus hub at the Spawn City Transit Centre.

N3 Line

The N3 Line (also known as the Crystal City Express) connects Skyscraper City and Crystal City. This bus route was originally an Interurban line, but it was shut down due to improper planning. Even though other lines now serve the area, it was decided that the line would be rebuilt as a bus line with the creation of the NORI Bus service.

Fleet

NORI Bus operates a fleet of streamlined NoriMark Motors Mk2 vL biodiesel buses, as well as a total of four NoriMark Motors Mk2 ECO 2 hybrid bus models on the N9 and N10 routes. Both the biodiesel and hybrid buses have dimensions are 12 x 5 x 6 (not including route/destination signs and hubcaps). A wide variety of customizable buses can be purchased from NoriMark Motor Company at their factory in Skyscraper City.

Ticketing

Even though the server is creative, NORI uses a ticketing system in order to remain as realistic as possible. At least three ticket machines are located near the entrance of each Interurban Board Center (and at some bus stations such as Chokster City) and fareboxes are located at the front of each bus. To acquire a ticket at a machine, riders have to press the button and a ticket will be dispensed through a dropper at the bottom of the machine. Fares can be paid on buses either by depositing cash or bus tickets into the farebox or by flashing an Interurban ticket or EBA monthly pass at the driver. Since the Interurbans do not have fare gates, proof of payment must be shown to a fare inspector or bus driver upon request.

Due to the warp payment system in place, riders are automatically charged an extra $0.25 for travel to each stop. Interurbans can be ridden at no extra cost.
