The Isle of Friel War was a fairly short war which occurred between the City-State of Kitania as well as Covina against The Royal Ferry Monarchy.

Background

Tensions rose with the construction of a military base at the Isle of Friel, in the desert northeast of Airchester and south of Farwater, on the coast of the sea east of Airchester. This led to a response from several cities and states, including the City-State of Kitania, the Lacledic Republic, Formosa, and Covina. The City-State of Kitania and Covina, which were both belligerents in the war, had the biggest response. The City-State of Kitania, acting under the Kitania Intelligence Agency, sent several warships near the base, parked a massive tank nearby, and established a military camp. In the waters near the base, KIA warships were involved in a skirmish with the Lacledic Grand Navy, Formosa Armed Forces, and a boat owned by Derpy_Melon. Covina went as far as to establish the city of Los Angeles north of the Isle of Friel. In Los Angeles, the City-State of Kitania established a large embassy, which became a base of KIA operations in the region. A top secret command center was also built several miles away. As the City-State of Kitania and Covina increased their presence, The Royal Ferry Monarchy heightened its level of security, and prepared The Royal Guard for a potential conflict.

On March 18th, 2016, the KIA abducted an agent of The Royal Guard from the Isle of Friel and held him in a KIA-operated prison within the City-State of Kitania embassy in Los Angeles for interrogation. Within less than an hour, The Royal Ferry Monarchy declared war on the City-State of Kitania, which was responded by a joint declaration of war by the City-State of Kitania and Covina against The Royal Ferry Monarchy.

Belligerents

Los Angeles Alliance

The Los Angeles Alliance was the alliance between the City-State of Kitania and Covina. Both used Los Angeles as a base of operations. The City-State of Kitania operated under the Kitania Intelligence Agency, or KIA. The KIA Armed Forces Division was responsible for combat activities while the KIA Surveillance Division had several jobs including espionage, covert operations, assistance in policing Los Angeles, and other non-combat activities. Covina outsourced both policing operations within Los Angeles and its military operations to the BART Police.

Isle of Friel Alliance

The Isle of Friel Alliance was an alliance consisting of The Royal Ferry Monarchy and its allies, such as Waterville. However, only The Royal Ferry Monarchy had an active role in the conflict. The Royal Ferry Monarchy operated under The Royal Guard, which managed combat and other operations during the war. The Royal Ferry Monarchy based its operations out of the Isle of Friel.

Events

Despite its classification as a war, the Isle of Friel War was marked by several incidents and operations conducted by both sides outside of the actual armed conflict.

Initial Mobilization

At the beginning, both sides mobilized their armed forces and prepared to fight. BART sent a ship to intercept two boats from the FAF and Spruce Neck Navy that were deployed under authorization by The Royal Guard. Later, the KIA sent several warships to the waters between Los Angeles and the Isle of Friel, but stopped short of using air power to avoid another situation like the one in Foxtrot. The Royal Guard did not initially attack but began to mobilize its naval forces within the Isle of Friel, including the purchasing of a fleet of Formosa-class destroyers from Navy Industries.

Kidnapping in Zaquar

In a non-combat covert operation performed by The Royal Guard in Zaquar, a major province of the City-State of Kitania, Royal Guard agents kidnapped the President of the City-State of Kitania, leading to a major raid conducted by the KIA Police & Surveillance Divisions. This led to a massive manhunt to find the President.

Search for the Kitanian President

Following the kidnapping of the President of the City-State of Kitania, the KIA conducted a major search operation. KIA investigators analyzed the scene in Zaquar. Agents of the KIA Intelligence Service, who had infiltrated deep into the ranks of The Royal Guard in a long term operation, discovered the President's whereabouts, leading to a KIA-assisted escape of the President.

Kidnapping of the King

The KIA conducted an operation in Royal Ferry, the capital of The Royal Ferry Monarchy, in which it kidnapped the King of The Royal Ferry Monarchy from the Royal Ferry city hall and left a KIA car just outside, at which a tank was immediately deployed behind it. The KIA also abducted a Civilian Enforcer agent of The Royal Guard from their patrol car outside a Waffle House in Royal Ferry. He was held for a short period before The Royal Guard found him and rescued him, kidnapping several KIA agents.

Raid of the Royal Ferry International Building in Nippia

The Surveillance & Police Divisions of the KIA conducted a joint raid on the Royal Ferry International Building, a skyscraper in the Downtown area of Nippia, the capital of the City-State of Kitania. The building was surrounded at gunpoint by SWAT teams sent by the KIA.

Battle of Nippia

In response to the raid, The Royal Guard launched an air strike in Downtown Nippia. The fighter jets used by The Royal Guard nearly collided with several tall buildings, including the Unity Towers, and, ironically, one which contained the headquarters for MIKE24Dude's corporation. The KIA launched a counter-strike, with the assistance of Covina (which outsourced its response to the BART Police). KIA fighter jets and a BART Police drone shot down the enemy fighter jets. The Royal Guard also sent ground troops to bombard and take over the Royal Ferry International Building. The KIA responded by breaking into the building and killing agents of The Royal Guard in the lobby.

Peace Negotiations

On March 24th, the leaders of the City-State of Kitania and The Royal Ferry Monarchy met to establish a peace agreement. In the terms of the agreement, both sides agreed to withdraw all their forces and release prisoners of war. This effectively ended the war, however Covina never officially declared peace with The Royal Ferry Monarchy.

Aftermath

The events of the war, in addition to previous incidents regarding the KIA including deployment of their cars in cities without consent from their mayors, led the League of Cities to forcibly demote the City-State of Kitania to observer status in the League of Cities as punishment. The City-State of Kitania subsequently filed a lawsuit in the Intercity Court of Justice, City-State of Kitania vs. League of Cities, in which the City-State of Kitania won, resulting in its reinstatement as a full League of Cities member.

The war and related incidents damaged relations between the City-State of Kitania and several other states/players.

New Covina declared an end of all diplomatic relations with Formosa, which had never existed.

Following the end of the war, the KIA reduced its presence in Los Angeles, and will soon no longer assist in policing the city.
