Dovu is the twelfth island settlement of Itokani, located in the Northern Ocean in the region of Senikau. The island was built by McYoshi26, the mayor of Itokani. Construction of the island began on December 2, 2023, and was completed on December 7, 2023.
Dovu is one of the agricultural islands of Itokani and is known for its orchard and vineyard.
History
During the planning of Itokani, the island was originally planned to be named Winai. Dovu officially began construction on December 2, 2023, at night as minor terraforming was done early in the morning. Later in the day, the Yaloka Bridge connecting Dovu to Teivaki, the Lokaloka Lighthouse, and the Qereqere Well were placed on the island. The island's ground was fully terraformed without the foliage. The island's paths and plans were fully completed and laid out.
In the early morning of December 3, 2023, 12 copies of Dovu's houses were pasted in. The houses' exterior was originally constructed by zb7 on Waitui and was given to McYoshi26 after zb7 ceded the land for Itokani. McYoshi26 completed the interior and recolored the houses to fit the island's color scheme, beginning work on the house months before construction began on Dovu.
The rows of the island's vineyard began construction and planning on December 3, 2023, and were completed two days later. The trees for the orchard in the north of the island were completed on December 7, 2023. The final builds on Dovu were also completed on that day, including the construction and completion of Sigrid the Parrot, the cellar and storage building, and the communal area near the vineyard.
The island was declared completed on December 7, 2023, with the completion of the Home of Arisu & Usagi.
Etymology
The island was originally planned to be named Winai after the Fijian word for wine; however, after checking the translation months after the name was selected, McYoshi26 realized that he had misspelled the translated word as 'wine' was translated as 'Waini'. Due to its similarity to the word 'whiny', the name of the island was changed to Dovu, the Fijian word for 'sugar'. A few locations on the island are set to be named after Fijian words. The Lokaloka Lighthouse is named after the Fijian word for 'purple'. Yaloka Bridge is named after the Fijian name for 'spruce'. The Qereqere Well is named after the Fijian word for 'granite'.
The households on the island are named after musicians, mostly related to the Eurovision Song Contest. The artists referenced are Chérine, Diljá, Ulrikke, Dotter, Griff, Jeangu Macrooy, Destiny Chukunyere, m els, Niamh Kavanagh, KUUMAA, Reiley, and Maggie Rogers. Sigrid the Parrot is also named after Norwegian singer Sigrid.
The Home of Arisu & Usagi is named after the protagonists of the television show Alice in Borderland.
Geography
Dovu is located in the Northern Ocean. It is the southeastern island group in the region of Senikau and was Itokani's fourth and final island claim in the group. The island is surrounded by deep ocean and deep lukewarm ocean biomes.
The closest settlement to Dovu is Teivaki, which is connected by a bridge at the southern tip of the island.
Builds and attractions
Dovu has a total of 15 buildings: twelve village houses, the Lokaloka Lighthouse, the cellar and storage building, and the Home of Arisu & Usagi.
Sigrid the Parrot, the island's landmark, is a large statue of a Minecraft parrot made out of planks, inspired by a design from Saint Builder. The parrot is surrounded by numerous birdhouses.
The island has two agricultural halves, with an orchard growing plums in the north and a vineyard growing grapes in the south. The island has winding cobblestone and mossy cobblestone paths that connect each building on Dovu and wind through the vineyard and orchard.
Transport
Dovu is connected by the Yaloka Bridge to Teivaki on the southern tip of the island.
Itokani Local Boats take passengers to other islands in Itokani. There are Itokani Local Boats in the east of the island from the Dovu Passenger Dock that connects Dovu to Soko and Teivaki.
